Halloween
Halloween was always James's favorite holiday. He loved how he got to hang out with all of his friends and dress up and do stupid activities. He loved how the weather was Just cold enough that you had an excuse to bundle up in a big cozy blanket but that it wasn't cold enough that you couldn't go outside for longer periods of time. He loved being able to see Remus, Sirius, and Peter on the holiday as well. Halloween wasn't like Christmas where all of his friends would go home to their families. On Halloween he knew that Sirius and Regulus were safe from the torture that their parents put them through. He could make sure that all of his friends were safe on Halloween.
James got up bright and early at 5am. He couldn't contain his excitement regarding the day to come. He put on his glasses and looked around the room. It was covered wall to wall in Halloween decor that he had begun setting up the moment the clock struck midnight on October first that year. He would have begun decorating earlier but Sirius had made him agree to not start until October. If James had it his way he would have decorations up all year round. Sirius had capped his 'Halloween frenzy' as he liked to call it, to just about one month out of the year. He was allowed to set up as early as October first and had to have all of the decor down by November fifth, Sirius had given him a little grace in his take down time as it was particularly difficult to take it all down in one day.
James swung his legs to the side of his bed and stood up. James was glad that Halloween fell on a Saturday this year. He thought it was a crime to have to go to class on his favorite day of the year, but that hadn't stopped professor Dumbledore from continuing lessons when it fell on a weekday. James stretched his back out and enthusiastically ran to his dresser and began getting dressed. He reached into his dresser and picked out his favorite spooky sweater, it was orange with little pumpkins all over it. Then he grabbed a plain pair of baggy black jeans and a black T-Shirt with a picture of a skeleton on it. Then he went to the bathroom to change out of his Pajamas.
Once James was ready for the day he ran to Sirius's bed to wake him up. "Sirius wake up! IT'S HALLOWEEN!" James yelled as he shook Sirius violently. "Jesus Christ, mate! It's 5AM. You know if you woke up this early every day you might not be late all the time." Remus said, slowly sitting up in bed next to Sirius. "I'm not this excited every day. It's Halloween!" James said ecstatically. "James, how much candy have you had this morning?" Sirius asked. "None, I'm waiting until after breakfast. I don't want to be too full." James explained. "Oh yeah, so why is there a pile of Kit Kat wrappers by your bed?" Remus asked. "Ok, maybe I had a little bit of candy." James said reluctantly.
-A few minutes later, after James finally pulled Sirius out of bed-
Peter, Remus, Sirius, and James finally emerged from their dorm room. "I'm gonna wake up the girls!" James said as he began walking down the hallway. At this moment James was so excited his hyper activity rivaled that of a chihuahua that was about to get a walk. "I think if you wake up Marlene before seven she's gonna murder you." Remus said. "But it's Halloween." James said. "I don't think Marlene is gonna care that it's Halloween when she lights you on fire for waking her up." Sirius said.
The group walked out of the common room and into the hallway. None of them were really sure where they were going but they knew that if James didn't leave the common room soon he might explode. "We should find Reggie!" James said enthusiastically. "James, you of all people should know how grumpy Reggie can get in the morning." Sirius said with a concerned look on his face. "Fine, I guess you're right. Where should we go then?" James asked.
After a few minutes of aimless wandering the group finally ended up in the library. The library was barren, there was no one there with the exception of Remus, Sirius, James, and Peter on account of it being so early in the morning. Boredom filled the air as James and Sirius slowly remembered why they never went to the library, they hated reading. After a few minutes of silence the doors to the library finally opened revealing two sleepy slytherins, Pandora and Regulus. Regulus scanned the library quickly and a look of confusion washed over his face upon seeing Sirius and James. Regulus walked over to the group. "Why are you in the library?" Regulus asked Sirius and James who were seated right next to each other. "There's nothing else to do in this bloody school this early!" Sirius explained in frustration, he was so tired he could barely hold his head up. "Why are you even up this early then?" Regulus asked. "Cause this lunatic woke us all up like a kid on Christmas all because it's Halloween." Sirius said in a sleepy tone. "Are you Serious Potter?" Regulus asked. "No I'm not Sirius. He is." James said with a shit eating grin on his face. Regulus only started blankly at him in response. "Why did you wake everyone up just for something as trivial as Halloween?" Regulus asked. "Because Halloween is the best day of the year!" James said defensively. "Halloween barely even qualifies as a holiday, it's just a dumb excuse to throw a party and eat so much candy that you puke." Regulus said with an unimpressed look on his face. "Exactly! That's what makes it so fun, and that's a bold statement coming from someone who dresses like it's Halloween everyday." James said defensively. "Just because I like dark clothing doesn't mean that I love Halloween!" Regulus said in an accusatory manner. "Reggie, I think if you don't let James have his favorite holiday you're gonna break his heart." Remus said. "Come on Reggie, at least come to our Halloween party tonight." James said pleadingly. "Fine, if it means he shuts up." Reggie said in a rude manner before walking away.
-Later that afternoon, in the marauder's dorm-
James had gathered all of his friends in the room for 'Halloween Activities' as he said. "James, why the fuck did you have to wake us up so early for this?" Marlene bellowed out. "Marlene, it's 2 PM." Lily responded with an appalled look on her face. "Exactly, anything that requires me to wake up before 4 PM on a weekend is entirely too early!" Marlene shot back in frustration. "Just, be happy we stopped him from waking you up earlier. He woke us up at 5 AM and was about to do the same to you guys," Sirius said, "I told him that you would light him on fire." "I would do so much worse then that if he woke me up that fucking early!" Marlene said back.
James came back to the group holding a pumpkin in each hand. "We're carving pumpkins!" James said enthusiastically. The pumpkins were small, about the size of James's hand. "James, where did you get those pumpkins?" Sirius asked as if he was a mother about to put their child in time out. "Don't worry about it. Just, know that we probably won't be having anything with pumpkin in it anytime soon." James said guilily. "James, did you steal those pumpkins from the kitchen?" Sirius said in a scolding manner. "Noooo, I just... took them... without anyone's knowledge... or permission." James said slowly.
-An hour later, after they carved the pumpkins-
"Alright, let's see what everyone carved. Remember this is supposed to be things that we love!" James said enthusiastically as he put his carving knife down. "Yes, we all know, Prongs! You told us like ten times!" Sirius said in an annoyed tone. "Ok! Who wants to go first?" James asked the group. Sirius shot his hand into the air enthusiastically and turned his pumpkin around. "Sirius, did you draw a dick?!" James asked abruptly, "This was supposed to be things that we love, not crude drawings." "Hey, that's not entirely accurate. it's not just a dick," Sirius said while pointing to a messy bit of righting in the corner with an arrow that said '<3Moony's <3' "It's moony's dick, and this IS something I love!" "Ew" James said with a disgusted look on his face. Remus's face turned a light shade of pink as he rested his head in his hand with a look of annoyance on his face.
"Ok! My turn." James said with a smile as he turned his pumpkin around. The carving in the pumpkin looked a bit like a blob with a weird pattern on it and sticks on either side. "Uhh, Prongs. What is it?" Sirius asked, his face looked as though he were trying to solve a puzzle. "It's a snitch! Obviously!" James said as though it was obvious to everyone in the room but Sirius what he had carved. "It looks like a baby bird that wants to be put out of its misery." Remus said abruptly. "How dare you judge my carving after Sirius carved a dick!" James shouted. "I mean... at least we all knew what it was. His may be crude and vulgar but at least it was carved well." Remus said. James didn't respond verbally, he merely folded his arms and shot Remus a dirty look.
"So... who wants to go next?" Sirius asked in an attempt to lighten the mood. "I'll go." Remus said. "Mine is something that I have loved for a very long time." Remus said dramatically. Sirius gasped dramatically, "Moony, is it me?" He asked with a look of excitement on his face. "No. It's chocolate." Remus said with a cold expression on his face. The group went through the rest of their carvings and then began getting ready for the Halloween party they would hold later that evening.
