family game night
It had been a few days since Sirius had found out about Regulus and James's relationship and James figured he was taking it quite well (well as well as you would expect Sirius to take any type of news that changed anything in his life). In fact Sirius had actually invited Regulus, Barty, and Evan to a game night in the marauders dorm after curfew. Regulus found it a little stupid to risk a detention just to play board games with his brother and his friends, but if it would help Sirius accept James and Regulus's relationship he figured it would be worth getting detention over.
Regulus gently knocked on the door to the Gryffindor common room. There was a moment of silence before the door opened to reveal James standing in the doorway. Regulus took the cloak off of all of their shoulders and walked past James into the common room. "How was the walk up here?" James asked as he let Barty and Evan through the door as well. "It would've been better if I didn't have Barty shoving his knobby elbows into me every five seconds!" Regulus said, turning to look at Barty. "Well if that cloak wasn't so damn small then I wouldn't be pushing you." Barty said, holding up the cloak and handing it to James. James chuckled a bit. "You know Barty, you didn't have to come." James said, taking the cloak from Barty's hands. Barty gasped in fake shock. "And miss this train wreck of a night. I wouldn't dream of it." Barty said, putting his hand to his forehead dramatically. "What makes you so sure it's gonna be a train wreck?" Regulus asked. "Oh come on Reg, we've got all the ingredients for a train wreck," Barty said, "you and your brother in the same room for an extended period of time," Barty said, counting each of his points with his fingers, "Two couples who are basically allergic to communication," Barty said while gesturing to James and Regulus, "And to top it all off we all know that Remus is the most competitive person when it comes to board games, so he's gonna win every single game."
The group walked to the dorm room and sat down with Remus, Sirius and Peter who were already setting up the board for monopoly. Remus and Sirius were sitting next to each other and Peter was sitting to Remes's left. James quickly walked over and sat down next to Sirius and Regulus quickly followed suit, sitting right next to James and leaning so closely to him that they were practically touching. "Hey none of that!" Sirius yelled out pointing to Regulus and James. "What, I'm not allowed to sit next to my boyfriend?" Regulus asked, moving even closer to James. "No, you're not allowed to sit next to him!" Sirius yelled. "But you're allowed to sit next to yours." Regulus pointed out. Regulus grabbed James's hand and put his head on James's shoulder. James could tell that Regulus was getting close to him to annoy Sirius but that didn't matter to him, all he cared about was that Regulus was close to him. "Fine, but you are not allowed to do anything even slightly romantic around me, ok." Sirius said. Regulus looked at James with a mischievous glint in his eyes. Regulus was always a stickler for the rules except for when it came to Sirius's rules for him. Regulus hated it when Sirius tried to control him, so he always made it a point to deliberately disobey him. Regulus grabbed James's face with his free hand and pulled him into a kiss. James didn't care that Regulus was only kissing him to piss off Sirius, he just liked that Regulus was kissing him.
"Eeeeeewwwwww!" Sirius yelled as he shielded his eyes with his hand. "Ok, can we please play now?" Remus asked in an attempt to defuse the situation. Barty and Evan quickly joined the group sitting on the floor. Barty sat next to Peter who gave him a friendly wave and pushed the popcorn bowl towards him. Barty smiled kindly and dig his hand into the bowl grabbing a fist full of popcorn.
-one hour into the game of monopoly-
Regulus rolled the dice and they landed on a 5 and a 6. Regulus picked up his piece and moved it to the appropriate number of spaces. "OH, FOR FUCKS SAKE! Not again!" Regulus cried out burying his head in his hands. "Looks like you owe me $600" Remus said with a cheeky grin on his face. "How do you already have 2 hotels on boardwalk?" James asked in an exasperated voice. "Cause he's a fucking cheater!" Sirius yelled out. "I am not a cheater, you all just suck at monopoly." Remus said defensively. "I don't even have enough money to pay you. Even if I mortgage all of my properties." Regulus said in defeat. James put his hand on Regulus's shoulder. "It's alright love." James said while handing Regulus $600 dollars with a gentle smile. "No you can't do that!" Remus shouted. "Think of it as me investing the money." James said optimistically. "Investing in what, your boyfriend's dick!?" Remus yelled. "Would you please stop talking about my baby brother like he's a fucking prostitute!" Sirius yelled. "I mean if it means I get to stay in the game..." Regulus said, slowly taking the money from James's hand. Regulus's statement made James chuckle a bit. "Have some dignity Regulus." Sirius said. "Hey, I'm not the one who suggested it." Regulus said defensively. Sirius turned towards James angrily. "Don't look at me, I never called him a prostitute." James said defensively, pointing at Remus as he sneakily slid the money in his hand towards Regulus. The four of them continued to bicker for the next 5 minutes while Barty, Evan and Peter ate popcorn and watched them as if they were watching a reality TV show.
-a few minutes later after the game had finished-
"How the fuck do you win every time, moony." Sirius said as he packed up the game of Monopoly. "I've already told you, you all just suck at it." Remus said with a smirk across his face. "alright well I think that's enough for me tonight." Peter said as he stood up and began to walk to his bed in the corner of the room. "Alright Pete, good night." Sirius said as Peter walked away.
Once Peter was out of ear shot Sirius got up and grabbed a new game from the pile they had in the corner of the room. "Well, since Pete's gone I guess we can play clue now. It can only have up to 6 players." Sirius explains as he walked back to the group with a box in his hand. "Oooo I'm really good at this one. Moony you're going down!" Regulus said enthusiastically. "Reggie, when will you learn? It doesn't matter how good at a game you are. I will always beat you." Remus said as he began helping Sirius set up the board. Sirius looked up at the group with a smile of realization on his face. "Hey guys. Now that Pete is gone it's like a triple date!" Sirius said enthusiastically. "TRIPLE date?" Barty asked with a look of confusion. "Ya, me and Moony, these two love birds, and you and Evan." Sirius said, motioning to each couple as he mentioned them. Both Evan and Barty's faces turned bright pink at the same time. "Wait mate, me and Barty aren't dating." Evan said. "OH, sorry my bad." Sirius said with a confused look on his face. Sirius leaned towards Remus and whispered in his ear, "Are they messing with me?" "No, love. I think they just don't know that they like each other yet." Remus whispered back. Barty and Evan looked at each other with matching flustered expressions on their faces.
-One (very fast) game of clue later-
"How did you win AGAIN!" Regulus said in an upset tone. Regulus was holding his head in his hands, he couldn't handle the fact that Remus was beating him at every board game. Sirius, Remus and James all laughed at Regulus's shock. "And why are none of you guys surprised?" Regulus asked. "We gave up on trying to beat Moony at any board games a long time ago." James said as he gently laid his hand on Regulus's shoulder. "Alright, I think it's time that the Slytherins go back to our common room." Barty said while looking over at Regulus. Regulus looked around quickly before saying, "Nah, you two go back. I'll stay here." "Alright mate, suit yourself." Barty said while helping Evan stand up from the floor. Barty and Evan grabbed the cloak and made their way out of the room.
"Alright, what should we play next?" James asked as he walked back from the pile of games. "How about Pictionary, me and Moony against you two." Sirius said. The four of them quickly set up to play Pictionary.
-A few minutes into pictionary-
Regulus stood next to a whiteboard frantically drawing a doodle. "Uh, A walrus... a dog... a scarecrow!" James shouted enthusiastically. "And time!" Remus yelled. "Ah, dang it!" James said in defeat. "IT WAS THE SUN, HOW THE FUCK DID YOU NOT GET THAT?!" Regulus yelled in frustration. "You didn't even draw a circle, how the fuck would I get that?!" James yelled back. "Alright, alright. enough you two. it's me and moony's turn." Sirius said as he got up and walked to the whiteboard. "And Go!" Regulus yelled as he pressed the stop watch to start their time. "Um... toast!" Remus yelled. "You got it!" Sirius shouted joyfully. "How the fuck did you do that?! He literally just drew a square with an X through it." Regulus said in shock.
-After finishing the game of Pictionary-
"You're useless." Regulus said to James. "Don't get mad at James just cause you lost again." Sirius said while laughing. "Alright, I'm gonna go to bed now. Does anyone else want to?" Sirius asked. "Ya, I'm a bit tired too." James said as he got up and walked to his bed. Remus and Regulus turned to each other. "Do you wanna play poker?" Remus asked, holding up a deck of cards.
-One game of Poker later-
"I've got two pair. Kings and sevens." Remus said, displaying his cards to Regulus. Regulus gave a faint smile and displayed his cards. "Full house!" Regulus exclaimed upon displaying his cards. "I guess you finally beat me." Remus said, pushing the full pot of chips towards Regulus. "Why aren't you more upset?" regulus asked as he began to put the game away. Remus laughed a little and moved a little closer to Regulus. "Because no one will ever believe you." Remus whispered with a sinister giggle.
