eyeliner
As Regulus got dressed to go to breakfast he spotted the makeup Pandora had given him about a year ago out of the corner of his eye. Regulus stopped tying his tie when he noticed the eyeliner and eyeshadow pallet. He reached his hand over and grabbed the makeup. It was still in its packaging. Originally Pandora had given it to him so that he could wear it to parties in the Slytherin common room, but Regulus wasn't exactly a big fan of parties. He would much rather be reading in his room than be hanging out with a bunch of other teenagers getting drunk, so when he was occasionally forced to go to a party by Evan and Barty he didn't really care enough to get dressed up.
Regulus grabbed the brush from the eyeshadow pallet and lightly dusted it in a deep purple colored eyeshadow. After he had finished putting the eyeshadow on he grabbed the eyeliner. He opened the cap revealing a light marker like tip covered in black pigment. By the time Regulus had finished his makeup his eyes were lined harshly with a wing that looked so sharp it could cut someone.
Regulus didn't bother to finish tying his tie before walking out the door. Regulus gently pushed open the door to the great hall, the door closed behind him louder than he had anticipated it to. The loud bang of the door attracted a few eyes towards Regulus. Now Regulus felt as though the entirety of the great hall was watching him. He wasn't sure why exactly, was it his makeup that he had been so keen on that he was late to breakfast? Was it the fact that his tie wasn't tied up neatly like usual but rather thrown sloppily over his shoulders? Or perhaps was it the fact that rather than walking towards his usual table of his peers who donned the same green and silver uniform as him, he was walking towards a table better suited for his brother decked out in red and gold?
Regulus walked up behind James and his friends and stopped just behind James. The scent of James's cologne brought a slight smile to Regulus's face. Though Regulus would never admit it to James, he had missed him every second that they were apart. Being without James for even the length of a class period felt like torture to Regulus so spending a whole night without seeing his dorky little smile felt like his heart was being carved out of his body.
Regulus took a deep breath in, breathing in James's intoxicating scent. "Jamie," Regulus said, putting his hand on James's shoulder. James turned his head to look at Regulus. Upon meeting Regulus's gaze James's face turned a light shade of pink. James had never seen Regulus wear eyeliner before but now he was certain that he wanted to see him wear it a lot more often.
"Oh, hi Reggie. Good morning." James said, a big smile spread across his face. James was happy that he could now talk to Regulus without worrying about Sirius. Regulus smiled softly and said in a gentle voice, "Good morning, Mon Amour." Regulus looked over at Sirius for a split second. Sirius looked upset but not nearly as upset as the day before. "Well I just wanted to say good morning. I'll see you tonight." Regulus said, his gaze turning back to James. "Alright, love." James said, in a joyful tone. James stood up a bit to give Regulus a kiss on the forehead, and Regulus leaned down a bit to make it easier for him to do so. Then Regulus walked away back to the Slytherin table.
The moment Regulus was out of ear shot Sirius immediately turned to James and said, "Love? You two love each other?" a look of confusion was painted across his face. James looked back at Sirius with a matching expression on his face. "Ya, what did you think was going on?" James questioned. "I thought you two were just shagging!" Sirius exclaimed in confusion. Sirius sat in thought for a moment and then reluctantly said, "Fine, I guess if you two love each other I'm ok with it, but you have to promise me that you will never hurt him." "Deal! I would never dream of it." James said excitedly. "I still don't like it though. It still seems weird to me." Sirius said loudly. "But Sirius, think about it, if me and Reggie get married then we'll be brothers!" James yelled out. "I guess you're right, that would be pretty cool." Sirius said reluctantly. James knew that Sirius was the most stubborn person he knew (aside from Regulus) so a small win from anyone else would be considered a huge victory from Sirius.
-In potions class-
James tried to keep his eyes on the board but he couldn't seem to focus on the board in front of him. No matter how hard he tried James couldn't seem to draw his eyes away from Regulus, it was like Regulus was a magnet and James couldn't seem to avoid the attraction his eyes had to him. Regulus was supposed to be in a potions class below this one but he was so gifted at the subject that Slughorn let him take classes a year ahead of his classmates. James didn't usually have this hard of a time focusing in this class, but something about Regulus's makeup had James glued to him.
"Mr. Potter, is the answer to my question written on Mr. black's face?" James heard Slughorn say. Suddenly James snapped out of the trance Regulus had seemingly put on him. "What?" James said as he came back to reality. "The answer to the question I asked you Mr. Potter, is it written on Mr. Black's forehead?" Slughorn asked condescendingly. James looked to Sirius who was seated next to him for help. In all of James's daydreaming he had failed to notice that Slughorn was even asking him a question in the first place. Sirius was trying to hide his laughter behind his hand. 'fuck he's no help' James thought to himself. Then James turned to Peter who simply shrugged his shoulders. As a final resort he turned to Remus, He knew that Remus probably had the answer but that he also would probably refuse to tell him. Remus shielded his mouth from Slughorn and mouthed the words 'seventy three' to James. Maybe he was wrong, maybe this time Remus had decided to take pity on him. "uh, seventy three." James said in an unsure tone.
"Mr. Potter, I asked you for the ingredients for Amortentia powder." Slughorn said with a disappointed look on his face. Remus began to chuckle silently. In frustration James smacked Remus on the shoulder as Slughorn continued on with the class. "What the fuck, Moony!" James whispered. "Hey, it's not my fault you were too busy staring at Reggie to pay attention." Remus said through laughter.
James's gaze returned to Regulus. Now Regulus was covering his laughter with his hand and looking back at James. Regulus grabbed a piece of paper and a pen from his pocket which James immediately recognized to mean that he had something to say to him.James frantically pulled out his piece of paper and a pen to see what Regulus was writing to him. "Looks like someone's a little distracted. What's the matter? You can't even handle being more than 5 feet away from me." Regulus wrote. James looked over his shoulder at Regulus who was laughing his ass off. "It's not my fault. You're wearing eyeliner, it's throwing me off." James wrote back. "Oh, you find my eyeliner distracting. It looks like we found the one boy who all dress codes were made to cater to. What are my shoulders too distracting for you too?" Regulus wrote back with a soft smile on his face. "Yes actually. You're too hot for me to be able to learn anything." James wrote back with a matching smile on his face. Talking to Regulus seemed to have made up for the fact the Slughorn had embarrassed him in front of the entire class. "What do you need me to go around in a burlap sack so that you can learn?" Regulus asked. "Honestly you'd probably make that look too hot too. It's alright though I like being distracted by you." James wrote back. "Well, as much as I love that sentiment. You're literally going to fail your seventh year if you don't start paying attention, Mon Amour." Regulus wrote back. "Ugghh, Fiiiiine. I guess I'll pay attention." James wrote back reluctantly. "Good, as much as I would love to have you stick around here for my seventh year too, I also don't wanna date someone who flunked out of their final year at Hogwarts." Regulus wrote back. That final sentence sat weirdly with Regulus, it wasn't until now that he had realized that he would have to spend next year without James.
