Pettiness Can’t Be Helped

"Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it."
— Albus Dumbledore

Now in the classroom, lunch had finally finished and everyone settled down into their respective seats. The tension in the air was the calm after the storm type, the storm being the incident that had happened early on and the calmness was everyone sighing in relief that the day was halfway over and that they were safe from harm.

In front of the class on the podium stood Midoriya and Yaoyorozu, Midoriya was sweating bullets as his eyes practically bulged out of his eye sockets. His back was slumped and he was a mess, everyone could tell that easily but decided not to mention it out of respect. The girl beside him kept a neutral face while side-eyeing him and by the look in her eyes I could tell she was irritated and annoyed.

I could only guess what the reasons were behind that, from becoming just the class vice president or that the boy next to her wasn’t class president material(More like incompetent) or perhaps it was both maybe. Yet she still stood proudly with a perfect posture and hands wrapped around her back. ‘Note to self, one of these days I’m going to learn to read minds.’ I thought to myself in disdain.

“Let’s begin, class president?” The girl spoke out, tired of waiting for the guy beside her to finally speak.
“N… Now we will decide on other class officers…” The boy stuttered as his voice rose high, “... But can I say something before that?”
The black haired girl turned towards him in confusion, “Eh?”
“I’m s-sorry to disappoint those who voted for me, I can’t do this. I’m not fit for this position. I think… Iida Tenya should be our class president!” The boy squeaked out, his shoulders rising higher than ever that I could only cringe imagining the pain it’d cost.

Quickly wiping away that thought, I observed the scene with more intent then smiled at the sight, ‘Midoriya is very thoughtful for wanting to step down from being class president so that someone else who has more potential could rise up and lead the class with the best decisions.’ Turning to Todo-kun who was clearly bored from the sight, I eyed him and hummed to grab his attention.

In a whisper I said, “Interesting turn of events, don’t you think?”
“Sure.” He replied again monotonously but didn’t even turn his head
I decided not to continue the conversation as Midoriya continued to speak in front, “Iida took control of the situation beforehand in such a cool way so I think that it’s only befitting and right that he becomes the class president.” This time like magic, Midoriya's nervousness disappeared as he talked about how cool Iida was with a smile on his face and eyes shining in pure admiration.

I looked towards Iida in wonder what his reaction to Midoriya’s claims would be. His expressions weren’t disappointing to stay the least. He took a deep breath and slightly gasped in shock at Midoriya’s too kind compliments and claims though. Midoriya’s words weren’t an understatement though, Iida did live up to them therefore he deserved it.

Kirishima turned to look at Iida as did everyone else and spoke in a tone of admiration, “I’m fine with that too, if Midoriya thinks so. Iida did the most at the cafeteria aside from all the other students who tried to help with the situation.”
Kaminari, who rested his forearm on Kirishima’s desk, joined in with him, “You’re right and he was practically the exit sign.” I quietly laughed at his joke from all the way at the back.

Suddenly the yellow sleeping bag on the floor in front of the classroom besides the current class president and vice president, rose up in annoyance. Aizawa-sensei’s eyes were dry and his face was darkening as he rose from the dead, in an extremely creepy way. Despite the creepiness it was also a very comedic sight to see, seeing as it was a yellow sleeping bag that was zipped all the way up, only exposing his hair and face giving him a very emo teen aura.

“Don’t waste time.” The human in the sleeping bag growled in annoyance while rolling his eyes, scaring Midoriya in the process, “I don’t care, so just hurry up.” He finished before plopping down on the ground to continue his much needed beauty sleep.
Iida who was pretty much silent throughout the entire ordeal took another deep breath to calm himself down before closing his eyes and standing up from his seat, “If it’s the class president’s wish…” He opened his eyes and stood even prouder than before and raised his right hand while his left was tucked behind his back, “I, Iida Tenya, will promise to fulfill the class president’s duty from now on.”
Kirishima gave a closed eye smile and raised his clenched fist into the air along with Iida in support, “You go, Exit Boy! So manly!”
“Exit Boy Iida, we’re counting on you!” Kaminari joined in as well in Kirishima’s teasing and I really couldn’t help but giggle at their friendly antics.
“Exit Boy! Let’s go!” Mina hopped on the bandwagon
“What about my position?” Yaoyorozou in the front slumped her shoulders as she gave out an are you kidding me expression.

Time skip

At around 12:50 PM when everything was settled and we finished homeroom, our next and last class for the day would begin, that class being Hero Basics Class. Aizawa-sensei slightly grumpily got out of his yellow sleeping bag and got behind the podium. Boredly he rubbed his eyes to shake away his tiredness and I felt a little bit of pity for him.

“It’s been decided that today’s Hero Basic class will be taught by All Might, one more teacher and me.” Aizawa-sensei announced

More in confusion than excitement, people began to whisper what today’s lesson and training would be about and why it would be taught by 3 different people, one of them still being unmentioned for now. Some were scared like Mineta, some were excited like Mina, and some were neutral like the emos of the class, specifically Todoroki and Tokoyami.

“Excuse me!” Sero raised his hand, “What will we be doing?” His head popped out from behind Jirou so that he could see Aizawa-sensei more properly

In a very cool and mysterious way, sensei pulled out a card from his pocket and showed it to us. The card held the word, RESCUE in a very bright shade of blue color that practically shined and temporarily blinded people's sight from how bright it was.

“Today’s lesson will be learning about anything and everything relating to rescuing civilians. That includes anything from disasters to shipwrecks and such will be related so prepare yourselves. Today we're doing rescue training.” Sensei put an emphasis on rescue training to make sure it gets into Mineta’s thick grape skull that we’ll be doing training and not staring up into girls' skirts.
Most people in the front began to whisper and gasp in excitement at today’s lesson, “Rescue training? This seems tough, good thing I’m here.” Kaminari turned to Mina who was sitting next to him and whispered
“I agree!” Mina shook in her seat in eagerness as she turned to Kaminari
Kirishima who listened along into the conversation from behind Mina and Kirishima, joined in and spoke in a very manly tone, “Are you serious? It’s the epitome of hero work! The whole point why hero’s were created in the first place! Look at me!” He leaned back and showed them both his fist, “My arms are rumbling! And it’s so manly!”
Tsuyu who also joined in from beside Kirishima began, “Water disasters are my forte so I hope they let me show off my skills there, ribbit.”

From behind the commotion in front, I talked to Todoroki and Tokoyami in the back as well. I also tried to join in with the others who were excited as well but it seems like they all had their own thing going on so they hadn’t really listened to me.

“So what’d you think of this, Todo? Rescuing civilians is no easy feat.” I gestured to him the card sensei was holding.
His eyes turned to look at me, “Yeah, it’s most especially difficult when you're battling with villains or running against time or whatnot. Not only do you focus on rescuing the civilians but you also need to multitask.”
“Which makes it good training so that we can prepare for the foreseeable future.”
“True, it’s also-” Todoroki was cut off by sensei
Aizawa-sensei, who was annoyed by the ruckus everyone was making, made them shut up easily as he threatened to activate his quirk, his hair floating in the air and red bloodshot eyes glaring at us down, “Hey, I’m still talking. Now, for this training, we’re giving you the opportunity whether or not you choose to wear your hero costumes or not.”

The class immediately became silent and listened to him intently after his threat and casually in response sensei looked as if he couldn't care less, he lifted up a small rectangular strange device in his hand which Mina had recently taught me was called a remote controller, he clicked on one of the buttons on the device and just like before in our first Hero Basic Class, the walls moved towards us to reveal columns stacked up upon each other of our hero costumes which was neatly arranged by our class number. ‘Humans sure are something, being able after centuries to finally move a wall with the technology they’ve created.’

“We are doing this because some of your costumes limit your movements, your full potential, so I suggest you choose wisely whether or not to wear them. The training area we’re headed to is a bit far so we’ll go by bus. Everyone get your things ready and prepare yourselves.” Aizawa-sensei finally finished his announcement and walked off the stage without even dismissing us.

Everyone started getting up and going to their respective hero suits, grabbing them and heading towards the locker rooms with their friend groups. I waved to my own respective friend group just as I had already grabbed my own hero costume briefcase and was about to head to them where they were already out of the classroom door when I saw a strange sight to behold. It also just so happened that Todoroki, whose hero costume was placed just above mine, was somewhat curious when I nudged him out of the blue.

“Hey, Todo…?” I said just loud enough that he could hear and not disturb Midoriya who was still in his seat in deep thought.
“What is it, (L/n)?” He asked in curiosity whilst in his hand he held his own hero suit briefcase.

When Todoroki had turned to face me, he noticed I was staring off into a specific direction. Todo-kun followed my glaze and found himself looking curiously at Midoriya Izuku, the ex-class president who was also able to defeat Bakugo in the first hero training battle. Midoriya who sat in his seat staring off into somewhere, was mumbling out words non stop even when everyone had already left the classroom and it was only the 3 of us left.

“Is that… Normal?” I questioned when suddenly Midoriya raised his palm and clenched it, giving out a fierce and determined expression.

‘More like I meant, is that a normal thing you muggles do around here? And do I also have to do that to fit in?’ By all means, spacing out, daydreaming, or mumbling to yourself is normal and I do get that however what Midoriya was doing was far from getting lost in his train of thoughts that he rambles. Midoriya looked like he was rapping, a type of music genre humans are fond of and I only had discovered it recently because of the internet which led me to discovering google.

“No, not really. Maybe it’s just a habit of his.” Todoroki said that to end the conversation

Todoroki was about to leave but on my watch since it’d be rude to not wake Midoriya back to reality and I wasn’t going to do that all by myself. And so I grabbed onto his right and free wrist which was extremely freezing to say the least as if you placed your hand into a bucket filled with ice and water, it certainly did contrast that of my own which was warm as it had blood continuously flowing through my veins. Basically it means I’m not a damn cold blooded animal like Todoroki here was.

Despite that, I did not flinch or move away from the coldness. I sat on Todoroki’s right side which meant his ice side was always cold whether he unknowingly activated it or not, sitting next to him since the first day of class meant that I was also unknowingly slowly trained by him to begin to learn the way of the ice, to become immune or more like used to the cold that it doesn’t bother me as much anymore. He was shocked at how I grabbed his wrist since he wasn’t in the slightest used to any forms of affection or physical contact I could tell by his emo behavior but I had held him so gently that he was inclined to stay though that didn’t mean he relaxened his stiff wrist.

“Maybe Midoriya’s rapping look.” I gestured to Todoroki to look at Midoriya with my head by nodding in his direction as I let go of his freezing cold wrist.
“He does look like he’s doing it. Maybe you’re right.” He spoke stuffy until he relaxed after I let go of his wrist, in his head he began to theorize what else Midoriya’s quirk could be such as a rapping quirk
“See! But we gotta snap him out of it. So c’mon!” I grabbed the hem of his uniform instead this time and dragged him along with me
Todoroki let himself get dragged off by me with a tired sigh, “Why must I come?”
“Because I said so, got any complaints?”
“Several actually.”
“Too bad! Live with it.” I teased him and laugh which made his lips quirk up very slightly at my jokes

I decided not to comment on that and instead feel proud of myself. It wasn’t everyday one could make the so-called Ice Prince known as Todoroki Shoto smile. Slowly but surely I felt like I was starting to melt down his walls and soon enough I’d consider us to become close friends or allies.

“Hey, Midoriya?” I patted his back slightly roughly since he was so deep in thought, “Sorry to burst your bubble like that, but we better get going. Everyone left already, so it’s just you, me, and Todoroki over here who I definitely didn’t drag along with me.” Todoroki deadpanned at my comment as I gave Midoriya a very bright smile.
“Sorry you had to snap me out of my rambling and-“ Midoriya began to apologize frantically but I cut him off or this would go on forever.
“It’s no problem at all Midoriya, we’ll get going now. You should hurry along, bye!” I grabbed Todoroki’s uniform this time and dragged him along with me.

Time Skip

Quickly parting and dashing into the locker room, I changed into my hero costume as fast as I could with great struggle. By now most of the girls were almost done putting on their costumes while I haven’t even started. In the crowd of girls gathered inside the locker room, unfortunately Mina wasn’t there anymore.

I assumed she had already finished and was outside already waiting and most probably loitering around with Kirishima and the others. My suspicions were confirmed true when Uraraka-chan tapped me on the shoulder and informed me that Mina asked her earlier to inform me if we’d ever meet that she’ll be waiting for me at the meet up area.

I thanked the gravity girl and continued to hastily put on my clothes, pulling and forcefully tugging on them out of frustration. I cursed at myself for being so stupid when I could just charm myself to instantly change out of my clothes and into my hero costumes. ‘Bloody Hell, being with humans 24/7 starts to make me forget who I am. Why am I hassling myself with such a simple task?!’ I took a quick look at the room and saw that everyone had finally left right now, so it was the most perfect opportunity to do this now.

Time skip

“Mina! Hey, I’m sorry for making you wait for me.” I punched her shoulder playfully as I ran up to her, already in my hero costume
“It’s no problem at all, however you owe me something though.” Her eyes glinted with a hint of evil in it
“Oh no.” My smile dropped immediately as I took a step back from her
“Hehe.” The girl giggled and proceeded to take a step closer to me, “Now, my dear bestie. You really didn’t think I wouldn’t notice you exiting class after everyone has left with a certain…” She leaned into my ear and whispered, “Todoroki.” She grinned evilly at me
“Well, you certainly are something else, Mina. You’re not wrong of course, however…” I jumped back from her and pulled her along with me, heading towards the outside of the school where most of our classmates were already waiting, “I have a perfectly reasonable explanation for that. Midoriya was I believe rapping in class by himself so Todoroki and I snapped him out of it.”
Mina gave me a suspicious side-eyed with a large grin, “Sure, as if~” She replied in a sing-sing voice
“I'm positive!” I retaliated
She giggled and gave me a soft pat on the head, “Positively in love! And look, he's right there!” She pointed towards Todoroki who was sitting by himself on the bench
“Oh silence yourself!” I glared at her, wishing that she would shut up this at once.
Suddenly an annoyingly sharp blow of a whistle sounded out, "Gather up, class 1-A!" Iida yelled out, "To enter the bus smoothly, let's line up in two rows!"

We all thought in unison, 'Iida is in full throttle.' Iida began blowing on the whistle even more to attract the attention of everyone and started doing even more weird hand gestures.

"Damn, he's even more uptight than I initially expected." I gramaced to Mina.
"Yeah, who knew." She responded with a side eye

After some complaints, groans, and whining. We formed the two lines that Iida requested us to do which completely backfired on him as the type of bus we were provided had a different seating arrangement that necessarily required us to sit in rows. Most of us laughed at this realization whilst Iida sulked in defeat. His entire demeanor turned depressed, while we all relaxed ourselves and mentally prepared for what was to come.

Since I was at the back of the line, I was the last to be seated meaning whatever seat was left I was going to have to take it with no complaints, and be a big girl and suck it up. Luckily enough for me, Mina took a seat next to the weird blonde guy who likes to stare into the abyss and has a French accent but speaks entirely in Japanese, which left only 1 seat in the bus where I could sit… The only seat left that was unoccupied was next to Todoroki, oh great just my luck. I already sit next to him in class, I'm really starting to get sick being near him all the time. ‘It's not exactly terrible though at least. There are some ups to being his seatmate, he isn't loud and he doesn't exactly have a bad face either. Just a bit rude. Regardless, once I get my hands on Mina she’ll definitely regret it, I’ll make sure of it.’

I grinned at her but ultimately decided not to speak and to just let my eyes do all the talking, then turning to the boy, "Mind if I take a seat?" I questioned
"No, not really. Just don't be loud."
"Thanks."
"No problem." Things took an awkward turn of events afterwards with both of us staying quiet until he eventually fell asleep.
"Damn, it was this type of bus…” Iida sulked as he held his head in his hands
The girl who resembled a frog began, “It was meaningless… I say everything that comes to my mind.” She finished as though that were to justify her actions, she then turned to face the boy beside her, “Midoriya?”
He began panicking and blushing, trying his best to pull himself together to no avail, “Yes, Asui?”

Whatever happened after that was a fog, I didn’t really listen to anything they were conversing about, finding it somewhat insignificant. They were just talking about Midoriya, his powerful quirk which from being too powerful is a major drawback factor and although I was curious to say the least about what his quirk was. I’ll let that mystery be left untouched, for another day to be uncovered but for now… I’d rather rest up and save my energy for whatever training was in store later. Seeing how our previous lessons went down, I can only assume that this one would be even harsher. Especially since we’re heading out of the campus to somewhere unknown.

How exciting it is indeed, to be able to experience this exact moment where I dare only to fantasize about in my wildest dreams to actually and finally become a reality. To heal my inner child… For my eyes to take a small peek of what such a wonderful and beautiful sight of the truth of real freedom and the feeling of joys and sorrows that accompanies it…

It’s immeasurable and indescribable that no word or painting could do it justice. It's just something you absolutely must experience for yourself to understand. No matter my calm and quiet demeanor that I portray on the outside, it can only hide how truly grateful I am to be given such an opportunity, I will not throw away my shot so easily without a fight. Humans truly are… Interesting…

I fell asleep shortly afterwards following suit to the boy next to me, only to be awakened in less than 5 minutes by the sudden stop of the vehicle. We had arrived already, that much was clear. Honestly though I’m surprised neither Todoroki or I hadn't awakened from everyone’s boisterous conversations and Bakugo’s screeches. A large blue building finally came into view as I looked out the large window from the bus.

“Wow…” Completely mesmerized by the intriguing sight of a large dome like structure, I took in every single detail I could find leaving no crevice behind but that wasn’t enough, “Todoroki, change seats with me please. I really wanna see this.” I nudged him awake
The boy yawned and rubbed his eyes, “No, we’re getting off the bus already. It’s no use.”
“That's enough talking, shut it we’re here already. Behave yourselves.” Sensei cut through everyone’s conversation but stared directly at Bakugo when he spoke, guess we now know who exactly he was talking to.
“Still how rude…” I whispered underneath my breath at him, “Yes!” The class chanted in response to sensei and I followed suit.

I had silently given the boy next to me a dirty side-eye and glared at him for a bit whilst he fell fast asleep again merely seconds later, he must have been really tired or just a heavy sleeper. ‘What if when we get down, I won't wake him or cast a calming spell so that he won't wake up therefore missing class and getting into a lot of trouble and me getting revenge on him? Sure it's petty, which makes it all the more better.’

My moral conscience told me not to do it while the imaginary devil on my shoulder told me to go for it and even tie his shoelaces together to intertwine so that when he woke up he'd trip, a hilarious sight that would have been if you were to talk to me barely a year or two ago, now however I'd take that back and rather not create an enemy. I guess old habits don’t die so easily…

However, I am still a petty person so I woke him up when we arrived at our destination but I enchanted his shoelaces to tie them together so that he would trip and I took vengeance for all the time he was rude or mean to me since the first day of classes. It was the utmost hilarious scene. I couldn't hold my laughter and in response got a murderous glare with a glint for vengeance and a harsh questioning if I had done that.

“Had I done that, you would have easily woken up, don’t you think?”
“There’s always the possibility that I wouldn’t have.” He spatted out
“Then ask all the witnesses” I pointed toward everyone in the room who giggled silently with the exception of Bakugo who had not a care in the world to let everyone know that he thought the world’s top 2 hero son was a pathetic and clumsy boy, “Let’s see who comes forth. You know what my quirk is, it couldn’t have possibly been me.” I gave him the most laid-back shrug I could muster with a slightly red face, trying to hold in my laughter.
Bending down, he untied his intertwined laces and began to fix them, “Tsk. Just don’t mess with me.”
“Whatever, you say.” I left him behind, quickly following after Mina to get off the bus.
