Chapter 5
~~Harry~~
The next morning, Harry woke up feeling warm and laying on something soft. He frowned a bit, wondering why he was laying on something soft. His cot in his cupboard wasnât soft and neither was the pillow he had there. There was also a nice soft blanket on top of him, and Harry didnât have a nice blanket. Only good boys got nice blankets, freaks got thin sheets.
He opened his eyes to see a large room and not his cupboard. He looked around and then remembered what happened.
That nice lady Madam Bones came and got him from Aunt and Uncle and brought him here where Draco lives with Cissa and Luc (Harry couldnât remember how to say his full name, so heâd been told he could call him that instead). They were his family and heâd be living with them instead now. And they were really nice.
He panicked though when he realized it was later in the morning than he was supposed to wake up. What if he got in trouble for not cooking breakfast before they woke up?
He sat straight up and climbed down from the bed (it was so tall) and got dressed in some of the clothes that Cissa gave him (she got rid of all the ones he had from Dudley) before he left the room. The hallway was quiet as he made his way to the stairs and started to make his way down. He could hear some talking the further he got down the stairs.
He turned the corner and into one of the rooms as he tried to find the kitchen. He stopped when he saw Cissa, Luc, and some other man standing there. The man had black hair reaching his shoulders and wore all black. He looked sorta scary and he was tall. He stopped suddenly as he looked at the three adults standing and staring at him.
âHarry, dear, youâre awake early,â Cissa said, coming over and bending down a bit to be more on his level. He furrowed his brow.
âIâm up later than I usually am,â he saw Luc and the other guy frown at that as Cissa got a sad look in her eyes. âDonât I need to get started on cooking breakfast?â
âHarry, did you have to cook for your aunt, uncle, and cousin when you lived with them?â
He nodded slightly, and the looks the adults had just got more intense.
âSweetie, you wonât have to do that here. We have people that cook for us, or Luc and I will do it. Youâre a child and itâs not your responsibility to cook for us. Now if you want to cook or bake, you can but only with us helping so you donât get hurt or do anything too dangerous. Alright?â
A look of confusion spread over his face. âThen what are my chores?â
âHoney, you donât need to do any chores right now. Youâre a child and you should focus on having fun. The only thing weâd ever ask you to do right now is clean up your toys once we get you some. Other than that, you donât need to do anything.â
He just frowned at that. No chores? Sounded too good to be true. Cissa and Luc moved on from the matter and brought Harry over to the strange man that was there.
âHarry, we want you to meet somebody,â Luc said, looking at Harry. âThis is our good friend Severus. Heâs a professor and you and Dracoâs godfather.â
The man, Sever-Sev, got down to Harryâs level and held out a hand that Harry hesitantly took. âYou can call me Sev or Uncle Sev if you want,â he told Harry, which was nice since Harry wasnât sure he could pronounce the manâs name just like with Luc.
Uncle Sev then talked with Harry a little bit about what he taught (potions!) at the magic school (magic!) that he taught at, while they waited for Draco to come down so they could all eat breakfast together.
Â
~~Cissa~~
She looked over at Harry with sadness painting her features before turning to look at her husband.
âLuc, he thought he had to cook breakfast. That he needed to do chores here,â she said, broken that her boy was so used to doing chores at such a young age and assumed heâd need to do them even here.
âI know. And it didnât seem like he believed us when we told him he wouldnât need to do that here. Itâs concerning. But we can make sure he knows itâs the truth here and hopefully we can give him the encouragement to be a regular child and have fun, and maybe thatâll eventually lead to him fully accepting that things are different here and help change his mindset.â
She looked over at Luc with a warm smile before lightly kissing him on the cheek. âWe should tell Minnie and Hagrid that we have him at some point. I know theyâd want to see him and he should get to know them. They both loved Lily and James and would love to be able to know Harry as he grows up. Minnie could teach him chess when heâs older and Hagrid can teach him about some of the creatures he loves so much.â
âSounds like a good idea,â Lucius replied. âAnd Sev will probably start to teach him a bit about potions like he has with Draco. Itâll be helpful if we can leave the two of them with those we trust when we start looking into Siriusâs case. But we should hold off on that until Harryâs more settled and wonât think weâre sending him to live with someone else.â
Cissa nodded. âI agree. After breakfast we should also tell Harry about a healer coming to see how he is and check on his eyesight. Thatâs the most pressing matter.â
It wasnât much longer before Draco made his way downstairs.
âUncle Sev!â Draco yelled, running at Sev who caught him in one arm with his other holding Harry. He picked up Draco, who was hugging him tightly, and carried the two of them into the dining room following Narcissa and Lucius as they got ready to sit down for breakfast. Draco and Harry had started talking about something on the walk over and were slightly giggling as they were placed in their seats at the table. Sev joined them and the food was served shortly afterwards. She noticed Harry stare a little bewildered at the House Elves but relaxed a bit when one of them smiled at him kindly and he returned the smile.
Harry ate a startling small amount of food, but she knew that it would take a while for him to work up to larger meals as he hadnât been eating a proper amount at his relatives house and seemed to still be a little disbelieving of being able to eat however much he wanted.
After they finished their meal, Sev took Draco into the garden while Cissa and Luc asked to speak to Harry before he joined them. He nodded, looking a little frightened at the prospect.
âHarry, weâre going to have a couple healers come by later to check on you. A healer is the same as a doctor but for wixen. Theyâre going to make sure youâre healthy and check up on your eyes to see if you need updated lenses in your glasses. Alright?â Cissa said, gently. Harry seemed to be thinking over what she said.
Eventually, Harry nodded with a murmured âokayâ before Cissa and Lucius let him go out to the garden with Draco and Severus for a bit. The one healer they knew for a fact would keep the whole thing quiet was Madam Pomfrey - Poppy - from Hogwarts, and her specializing in children helped with that. Sheâd been doing some of Dracoâs checkups by now. While Narcissa contacted her, Lucius went off to contact somebody who could look at Harryâs eyes and not tell the rest of the wizarding world that theyâd done so. Harry may be in the public eye quite a bit from now on with them being his family and who he is, but they wanted as much of his information to remain private as possible.
Poppy had readily agreed to come by and see Harry in a couple hours and keep the entire thing from Albus and Lucius had contacted an eye healer whoâd keep the whole thing quiet as well and would be around the same time as Poppy.
The two of them headed out to the garden to let Severus know and they watched Harry and Draco play a bit, running around. According to Severus, it had taken Harry a bit to realize he wasnât outside to do any gardening (another thing that Dursleys had conditioned him to do that had Narcissa seething ) but to play with Draco.
A couple hours later, Narcissa brought Harry inside to see Poppy and the other healer. Luc was taking Draco out for a bit while Sev went to see McGonagall for a bit. Harry seemed nervous but was a bit more relaxed with Narcissa holding his hand and telling him that if he was uncomfortable at all, he only had to let her know and they could fix it.
They walked into the room that the healers had flooed into and Cissa sat Harry down on the sofa, letting him get comfortable and as relaxed as he could be at the moment.
âHello Harry,â Poppy said in a gentle voice as she moved closer to him with a smile. âMy nameâs Madam Pomfrey and Iâm going to check on your health while Madam MacDonald,â she indicated the other healer, âlooks at your eyes. Weâll use magic so you wonât feel anything more than a slight tingle wash over you.â
At the mention of magic, Harryâs eyes lit up and he seemed to relax considerably. Cissa chuckled a little at his reaction. As Poppy wordlessly cast a few spells and waited for them to be complete, she spoke to Harry again.
âYâknow Harry, I knew your mum and dad when they were in school,â she said, watching his eyes grow wide again.
âYou did?â he asked in a small voice.
âI sure did. I work at Hogwarts, the magic school that your parents went to, and worked there when they were going there. Your father had a talent for getting into mischief that would sometimes lead to him getting hurt,â she said, giving Harry a look that made him giggle. âYou mother was mostly there to visit him in later years but sheâd been sick a few times too.â
âWhat were they like?â
âWell, I know that Narcissa and Lucius knew them better than I, but from what I saw, your mother was compassionate, fierce, and intelligent. Your father was brave, mischievous, and stubborn. You look a lot like your father, but you have your motherâs eyes and face.â
Harry reached up to touch his face, âReally?â
âYou do.â
â...What were their names?â
âJames Potter and Lily Evans.â
Harry mouthed their names to himself. Petunia hadnât even told him his own parentsâ names ? Or that he looked like them? Her hatred for Lilyâs sister and brother-in-law was growing with each passing moment by now.
The eye healer finished her exam first. âHarry, when did you get your glasses?â
He thought about it for a moment. âDunno. Aunt brought them home when I couldnât see good enough to do my chores.â
âDid she take you to a doctor for them?â
He shook his head. âNo. She just brought them home.â
Madam MacDonald looked furious. She and Poppy, whoâd just finished her exam, came over to Cissa to talk to her.
âWell, his glasses arenât the prescription he needs,â Madam MacDonald (Isla, as she told Cissa to call her) told her, crossing her arms. âHeâll need a new pair with correct lenses. We can also charm his new pair to be unbreakable and impervious. After that he should get his eyes checked regularly and if he starts having trouble seeing again.â
âHow soon can he get new glasses?â
âHe can get them today. Iâll just floo back to the office with his prescription and get him correct lenses with new frames.â
âCould you do that now?â
âSure thing,â Isla said, walking over to the floo and leaving through it, leaving Harry staring after her on the sofa as the green flames died down.
âWhat did you find out?â Cissa asked, turning to Poppy.
âA lot,â she said, pulling out a piece of parchment that one of the spells had listed every injury and illness on. âHeâs malnourished, but it hasnât been going on too long and will be fairly easy to correct with regular meals and nutrients. He also has a few poorly healed bones and Iâll need to correct while Iâm here so they donât cause him issues. Thereâs also some bruising on him in various states of healing and a concussion mentioned from about a year ago. All in all, while it couldâve been worse, it wasnât good. Mentally Iâm not sure how he is, but I should be able to fix most of the physical ailments while Iâm here.â
âAlright,â Cissa said as she nodded. They walked back over to Harry.
âHarry, darling, Madam Pomfrey is going to give you a few potions and use some magic to heal your bruises and fix some of the bones that were injured, alright? It might be uncomfortable but shouldnât hurt much.â
Harry nodded, much more at ease around Poppy after finding out about her connection to his parents. Cissa started to move away from him but he grabbed at her dress and she sat next to him instead while Poppy started to give him potions and cast some spells. He tensed a few times, but didnât react more than that. Partway through, Isla returned through the floo with a new pair of glasses for Harry. She waited until after Poppy was done to come over and give them to Harry.
It took a minute or two for him to agree to give her his old glasses and take the new ones, most likely worried that he may be in trouble if he did so or that they couldnât possibly be for him (both ideas made Narcissa hurt), but once he put the new glasses on, his eyes widened with a small gasp. He looked around a bit, seeing everything a little clearer now that he had the correct prescription. He thanked Isla, Poppy, and Cissa profusely. The two medi-witches said bye and Poppy mentioned sheâd see him again soon for a check-up.
âYou did so good, Prongslet,â she murmurs to Harry as he sucks a loli that Poppy had given him.
ââProngsletâ?â Harry asks, looking up at Cissa with confusion.
âItâs a nickname. One that was given to you before you were born. You see, your dad was something called an âanimagusâ meaning he could transform into an animal. He could turn into a stag and went by the name âProngsâ so when your mum and dad announced theyâd be having a baby, we all started to call you âProngsletâ.â
Harry looked at her with wide and teary eyes. âMy dad could turn into an animal?â
âYes. So could his friends.â
â...Did he call me that nickname too?â
âAll of us did, especially your dad. Your mum would do so too, especially before you were given the name âHarryâ.â
âCan you tell me about them?â
âOf course. Come on, Iâll show you some pictures too.â
Cissa motioned for Harry to follow her, and he quickly got up and grabbed her hand as she led him to another room of the manor. She took out a photo album and the two sat down together as she showed Harry what his parents looked like and told him stories of what they were like growing up. That was how they spent the time until Lucius and Draco got back.
And how multiple pictures disappeared from the album to later be put in frames in Harryâs room.
