Chapter 6
The next day, Cissa, Lucius, Draco, and Harry all went out to buy some clothing and toys and all for Harry. It was the next thing on their list right after getting healers to check on him. Cissa had relayed everything to Lucius after he and Draco had gotten home the day before and heâd breathed a sigh of relief that it wasnât worse like theyâd feared.
Harry had woken up early again, though he didnât insist on needing to cook this morning, which was nice. That meant that he was at least starting to try believing what they were telling him. Theyâd even told him that he didnât need to wake up so early all the time, to which he gave them a suspicious look as though he thought they were lying to him. Baby steps.
Once Draco had woken and come downstairs, the family ate breakfast and then got ready to go out. Harry got dressed in some of the clothes he was borrowing from Draco and asked where they were going.
âWeâre going out to get you some new clothes and toys for your room. You didnât come here with much and you need toys to play with and clothes to wear that fit you and that you pick out,â Cissa said, looking at Harry with kind eyes. She saw him panic a bit.
âI donât wanna be a burden,â he said, eyes wide with a bit of fear. Fear he shouldnât have.
âProngslet, you arenât a burden and anybody who thought you are is wrong. Youâre a child and itâs our job to take care of you and give you what you need. Draco has toys and clothes that fit him that he picked out. Youâre our child too, just like he is, so you get treated the same. Alright? Draco even promised to help you pick out some of the best toys.â
Dracoâs eyes brightened at that and he grinned at Harry, who hesitantly smiled back at him and nodded to Cissa. When Harry looked away, she sent Luc a pained expression that he mirrored. The four of them left the manor and apparated to an apparition point in muggle London. Harry was a bit disoriented at first, but soon just looked around in awe at the fact that magic had allowed them to âteleportâ from their home to a hidden area in a London shopping centre. Theyâd be taking Harry and Draco to Diagon Alley a different day so as not to overwhelm Harry. They also wanted to explain him being famous first and talk about putting a glamour on him to hide his identity from others so people wouldnât be crowding him or gawking at him.
He didnât need that when he was so young and didnât know much about their world. And wasnât settled with his new home yet.
The first store they went into was a clothing store. They took Harry and Draco to the kids section and got some clothes for Draco too since heâd grown a bit and needed some new ones. Harry seemed a bit hesitant at first to pick out clothing on his own, but he saw Draco doing it without a care in the world and gained a bit of confidence from it, picking out some shirts he liked to try on. After about an hour or so, they had a nice amount of clothing for Harry to start wearing and some new clothing for Draco as well as shoes for both boys. Sadly, it was something that made Harry happy: having shoes that properly fit him. Cissa wanted to cry.
They then went to a store that had toys for him and Draco to go through and bed and bath supplies as well. After having Harry pick out a few bedroom and bathroom items, Draco and Luc took him to the toy section while Cissa got some of the more boring furniture items for his new room. Luc was also going to ask Harry if there was anything decorative he wanted in his room like posters and the like. Heâd probably be more excited once they took him to a shop with magical items like moving posters and toys.
Meeting back up at the checkout, they purchased their choices and made their way outside. They shrunk the bags and packages once they were out of sight (during which Harryâs eyes grew wide) and then made their way to a restaurant for lunch. Harry had to be reassured that he could order whatever he wanted from the menu before he felt comfortable enough to do so. After eating lunch they headed back to the apparation point and apparated back home with their purchases. Lucius took the things to the bedrooms and Cissa followed with Harry and Draco after taking their shoes off at the front door. In Harryâs room they arranged the new furniture, toys, clothing, and decorations theyâd gotten. His room was starting to have more of a personality with the photos and new items Harry had. Cissa also remembered something. She went over to Lucius as Draco helped Harry pick out places to put some of his new things to mention what sheâd remembered.
âLuc, I need to go to Godricâs Hollow to the Potter house.â
âWhy?â he asked, confused since the house hadnât been entered or messed with since the 1981 attack.
âI just remembered that there are some of Harry, James, and Lilyâs things that are most likely still there. Which also reminds me that we need to find out who has Harryâs vault key. I doubt the Dursleys ever had it, which means that Albus most likely has the key and if thatâs the case, we need to get it back from him as soon as possible.â
âWhen we take Harry to Diagon, we can get that sorted at the bank. Either we get the key back or have a completely new one made so that the old one no longer works. After we do that weâll write to let Minerva, Rubeus, and Remus know that we have Harry now. Weâll also tell Remus that we believe Sirius is innocent and he can work with us on getting his name cleared.â
âGood. At some point we can also have Andy, Ted, and Tonks come over and socialize with Draco and meet Harry since heâs their nephew and cousin now. I think he may like Tonks and maybe she can help Harry come out of his shell a little more.â
âWe can also start looking into setting up playdates with some other wizarding children so both our sons can have interactions with other magical children. Draco hasnât socialized a whole lot with others since it didnât come out until recently that we were never followers of Voldemort. Maybe we can start with some families that had members in the Order and would know that we were spies.â
âThe Weasleys would be a good choice. And I know that Augusta has a grandson thatâs Harryâs age.â
They talked a little more and then Cissa left to head to Godricâs Hollow. She got there and it looked the same it had 3 years ago. Once she got closer to the Potter house, it appeared, still partially destroyed. She was able to enter and started gathering things that now belonged to Harry. She found Jamesâ pocket watch and kept it to give to Harry when he turned 17. She knew it was a Potter family heirloom and James wouldâve wanted it to go to Harry. There were toys that had been Harryâs that were still intact, including stuffed animals for each of the Marauders, though the one for Wormtail was missing, and a doe to represent Lily. There were also some photos and awards that she gathered and she found a few more personal items that had belonged to James and Lily and decided that certain items sheâd hold onto until Harry was older. After double checking that she had everything she thought Harry would want from the house, she left and apparated back to Malfoy Manor, going inside and putting away most of what sheâd recovered. She kept the stuffed animals out, and brought them to Harry, who was still arranging things in his room. He looked up with wide eyes when he saw her walk in with the animals in her arms. Though, his face lit up briefly as though he remembered them a bit.
âHarry, do you recognize these at all?â Cissa asked a little hesitantly after seeing his eyes briefly light up. He slowly nodded. âThese were yours when you were a baby. Each animal represents a different person.â
She and Luc sat down on the ground with Harry and Draco, both of whom were raptly watching and listening.
âRemember what I told you about your dad being able to turn into a stag?â Cissa asked Harry, who nodded, as Dracoâs eyes widened. âWell, this stag plush represents your dad. He and his friends could all turn into animals. Sirius could turn into a dog,â she grabbed the dog plush as she said that, after handing Harry the stag plush, âand went by-â
âPadfoot!â Harry exclaimed, looking at the dog plush and making grabby hands. It was one of the few times sheâd seen him act more his age since meeting him. She smiled and handed him the Padfoot plush, which he also held out to Draco. They both seemed to like the softness. Cissa made a mental note to get a matching Padfoot one for Draco since Sirius was his cousin and he really seemed to like the plush.
âThatâs right,â Cissa said, briefly looking at Luc before looking back at the two boys. âRemus is a werewolf so the wolf represents him.â
Dracoâs eyes widened with understanding. Heâd known about werewolves for a few months and knew that it was not a chosen condition and was painful and people who were werewolves were capable of being good or bad just like regular people. She held up the plush for Harry to see.
âMoony!â he said as he saw the wolf. Cissa smiled again and handed it to him.
âThatâs right. He went by Moony. Now, even though your mum couldnât turn into an animal like the others, the doe represents her.â
Harryâs eyes widened a bit and he gently reached for the doe plush, hugging it to his chest as soon as it was in his hands. She felt tears well up in her eyes but quickly blinked them away before either of her boys saw. She could break down over everything at a later time when only Luc would see, but she was going to be strong especially for Harry. And definitely until he was settled and comfortable with them.

A couple of days later, they were getting ready to head to Diagon Alley. Cissa and Luc found Harry awake early again (but later than the day before, so he was gradually sleeping in longer) and decided to explain that theyâd be glamouring him for the trip.
âHarry, thereâs something we need to explain to you before we head out today,â Luc said, sitting down with Cissa and Harry. Harry was clutching the doe again. The doe had quickly become his favorite of the stuffed animals, though they all sat on Harryâs bed with him.
Harry didnât say anything, just looked at them with alert eyes, waiting for them to continue.
âWeâll be going to Diagon Alley today, which is in the wizarding world. Now, weâll be going to a bank first, but when weâre getting ready to leave the bank, Cissa and I are going to put something called a âglamourâ on you. Itâs magic that changes how you look in either small or big ways depending on what you want. We wonât change much about you, but weâre going to hide your scar and change your hair a little.â
Cissa picked up from there. âYou see, Harry, youâre famous in the wizarding world.â
âWhy?â he asked, cocking his head to the side.
âItâs a long story that weâll tell you later, but because of it, everybody in the magical world knows who you are and will be able to recognize a few specific traits of yours. So weâll change a couple of them so people wonât be able to tell itâs you. Weâll remove the changes when we get home. Is that alright?â
Harry seemed to think about it for a moment before nodding. Later on she and Luc would explain why Harry was famous, though she wasnât sure how much to tell Harry while he was so young. She might give an abridged version until he was a little older. While he had the right to know what happened to his parents and why he was famous, she knew it would be too much for him to know the full truth at such a young age. Even Draco didnât know the full truth and heâd grown up in the wizarding world.
Once Draco woke up and they all had breakfast, they flooed directly to Gringotts, having set up an appointment with the Potter account manager. Luc had been holding Draco and Cissa holding Harry when they stepped out of the floo and into one of the offices there. They sat down with the two boys and started talking with Griphook.
Harry was required to give a drop of his blood to prove his identity before they got into any specifics regarding his account and any vaults under the Potter name. The blood test that was done also stated that Harry was not only the heir to the Potter family, but also Peverell and Black (through Sirius being his godfather no doubt). Harry and Draco at this point were playing quietly on the floor with a couple toys that Luc and Cissa had brought for them to entertain themselves with since most of the bank visit was no doubt going to bore them and be beyond their understanding.
âWeâd also like to know who currently has the key to Harryâs vaults,â Luc said, looking at Griphook.
âAlbus Dumbledore does as he is the boyâs magical guardian,â Griphook responded. Cissa felt her anger flare, as well as Lucâs. So they were right about Albus having Harryâs key.
âWeâd like to either force him to give us the key, as weâre now Harryâs legal and magical guardians, or to have a new key that would render the one he has useless,â Cissa said in the icy cool tone instilled in all Blacks while growing up.
Griphook nodded. âWe can make a new key which would render the one Albus Dumbledore has null and void. Would you like us to notify him?â
Cissa shook her head. âNo. We would, however, like to be alerted if he ever tries to access any of the vaults with that key.â
Griphook nodded.
âThat reminds me,â Luc said, bringing attention back to him, âhas Dumbledore withdrawn anything from any of the vaults Harry has access to?â
Griphook summoned a list of past transactions from the vaults.
âSo far he has not, though he did start a monthly withdrawal of funds to be turned into muggle currency and deposited into a muggle bank account under the name of Dursley.â
That anger Cissa felt earlier? Not even close to the fury burning in her now at the new information from Griphook. Those monsters were being paid to house Harry, raise him and take care of him, and yet they chose to abuse the poor boy and give him little food and only clothing that his cousin had outgrown or were in deplorable condition (Cissa had taken away all of the clothes Harry brought with him after they got him a new wardrobe so they could either be turned into cleaning rags or thrown away).
âThat monthly withdrawal will cease immediately. Are there any steps we can take to get it reimbursed?â Luc was a little more level-headed with his anger than Cissa was right now. Griphook grinned.
âOf course, Lord Malfoy. Is there proof that the recipients did not use the money in the manner they were supposed to regarding Lord Potterâs upbringing and care?â
âThere is indeed.â

They were at the bank for a while, but not any longer than theyâd expected. As they were getting ready to leave, Cissa placed a small glamour on Harry to hide his scar and change his hair enough to make it so people wouldnât recognize him as Harry Potter. She and Luc each picked up one of their boys and left the bank, entering Diagon Alley. Draco was still excited despite having been here before. Harry, however, was alight with awe and wonder at the magical shops and people that made up the Alley. Cissa smiled as she watched him swivel his head, eyes darting around to take in everything. Their first stop was to get Harry some robes and to get Draco a couple updated sets since heâd grown a bit. Harry watched the measuring tape with awe as it measured his body without the assistance of somebody holding it. After the robes were purchased to be delivered to the manor, they went to a few different shops to get more items for Harry to have in his room and to play with. He wasnât really sure what to do in the toy store until Draco started dragging him to each section to point out his favorites and what he thought Harry should get. Harry picked out a few different toys with Cissa making mental notes of others he showed interest in as future birthday and Christmas gifts. His birthday was coming up soon after all.
They spent some time shopping (during which Harry already started to show interest in Quidditch just like his father which wasnât surprising) and then went to The Leaky Cauldron for lunch. Harry was in awe at everything there and didnât have to be prompted this time to pick anything he wanted on the menu.
They went home not long after lunch and Harry and Draco rushed off to Harryâs room to play with Harryâs new toys while Luc and Cissa took care of the other items they bought. After that, it was time they wrote a few letters.
