And maybe you're too good for me
This is a problem that Evan Rosier is proud to say that he has never really had. You see, Evan has never really had a crush. Sure he did on Barty but it wasn't like this, by the time that Evan had come to terms with the fact that he liked Barty they were attached at the hip. He didn't have to go everyday searching for ways to get to talk to Barty because he was always just already there. This is different, this is a cliche school crush at its finest. He even pretended to be bad at charms just to be able to see Peter for more than 5 minutes a day.
Gods the things he would do for these boys
Truly if this was anyone else there would be no way that Evan would put in this much effort. But it's not anyone else, it's Peter, kind, sweet, funny Peter who somehow stole both his and his boyfriends hearts. So here he was, in the stuffy greenhouse watching his boyfriend stick his hand in dirt and partially listening to Peter explain things that he's already perfected.
âYou're not even listening, Evan.â Peter huffed before glaring at Evan.
âWhat? Yes I am!â He most definitely was not
âOh yeah? What'd I say then?â Peter was doing that hot little smirk that he did when he knew that he was right and Evan just wanted to kiss it off him.
âUrmm-â
âPete! Peter there's something moving in this dirt!â Barty screeched and ran over to where him and Pete were sitting. Barty threw his hands around Peter, effectively getting dirt all over they're charms books.
âThey're supposed to move Barty, they're enchanted roots.â Peter pushes off where he was clinging to him for dear life and starts wiping down the books. âAll you need to do is figure out what's agitating them and the soothe âemâ
âWell in that case, I'm much more of a visual learner Petey⊠you wanna soothe my root?â Peter turned beet red before looking frantically looking between Evan and Barty
âGods Barty, your boyfriend is sitting right there!â Peter folded in on himself al little as if to get even further from Barty.
âAnd the Boyfriend doesn't mind. Honestly I'd quite like to watch that.â Evan winked and was relieved to notice that a bit of the discomfort drained from Peter's face.
âA- alright, if we're gonna do thisâ Peter moved his hand between them in a way that Evan thought was absolutely adorable. âYou guys can't flirt with me like that anymore. I mean it's been two weeks and there hasn't been a moment without y'all trying to jump my bones.âÂ
âAnd that's a bad thing?â Barty came around the table to Evan's side so that he could be facing Peter.
âYes! I mean gods you guys have to know what you're doing.â Peter looked down to the still dirt covered books before mumbling. âI-it's not funny, alright?âÂ
Now Evan was confused. Funny? Of course none of this was funny. The way that Evan's heart would beat faster everytime he heard Peter's name or the the feeling of need that washed through him when he thought about touching Peter. None of that was funny, none of that is a joke.
âPeter-â
âListen, it's fine, alright? Just⊠please stopâ That was the very last thing that Evan wanted to do. To stop fighting for Peter? As if. But well he can't really fight Peter for Peter. Evan wanted to ask so many questions , he wanted to ask why Peter didn't like them back. Why he's fighting them so hard? Why he looks so hurt right now? He also wanted to tell him so much. He wanted to tell him how neither of them could stop thinking about him and how if he'd just give them a chance they'd be so good to him. He even opened his mouth to say it, to say something so that the hurt look on Peters face would go away but before he could get anything out the greenhouse doors flew open.
âOh hell no.â The older, much more annoying Black walks into the greenhouse wand trained on the two of them as if he's gonna do something.
âWhy don't you put the wand down Black? You ain't gonna do anything to us.â Barty leaned forward with that dangerous glint in his eye. The one that Evan never seemed to be able to control, so he prepared himself for the explosion that was about to happen.
âOh I'll show you what I'm gonna do Crouch.â There was a little bit of magic at the tip of Siriusâ wand as if it was just waiting for him to say the word and it made Evan a little more cautious because Regulus packs a nasty hex and he learned everything from his brother.
âB-Barty maybe we should-â Evan tried, he really did but well he never was good at getting through to Barty at times like these. Usually cause he was being a dumbass right there with him.
âNah I wanna see what the older Black has up his sleeve. You all talk?â Sometimes he really hated that stupid glint in Barty's eyes and most of the time he thought it was incredibly attractive. You can guess which one he's feeling now.
âKnock it off Barty.â Peter pinned him with a look that made Barty lose his fight. âIt's fine Siriusâ
âIt's fine my ass!âÂ
âThey're my students! I'm just tutoring them, that's it.â If Evan didn't know any better he'd think that they were all in some weird foursome with the way that the three of them keep meddling in Peter's love life.
âSeriously? How'd you weasels manage that?â Barty scoffed and crossed his arm defensively but other than that said nothing.. interesting.
âHey I'll talk to you guys later alright?â Peter grabbed his books and bag before heading towards Sirius. But Evan knew that he shouldn't let him leave. He couldn't. There are too many things that are left unsaid and Evan can't do this weird back and forth anymore.
âPete wait! About earlier-â
âIt's okay. Just forget about yeah?â And then both him and the older Black were out of the greenhouse before he could say another word.
âThis sucks.â Barty deflated onto his seat.
âYeah, it does.â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âEvan. Come with me now.â You see, this would never be something Evan would ever admit out loud, he's honestly not even sure if vitterisum could tear it out of him but in the privacy of his own head he could say that Evan Rosier was a little afraid of his twin sister. Not in the way that most people are scared of her because she is different and people don't like different things. No Evan is scared of his sister because she always seems to know things, things that Evan has never told her and yet she comes to him in riddles answering 1 question but leaving behind 20 new ones. So he made it the least bit noticeable but hurried his butt after his sister.
He had to swallow the lump of bile that rose from the tone of his sister's voice and follow her into the little alcove in the library.
âSo what's up Pand-â
âYou're being an idiot and it's ruining my chances so would you please stop it.â Well that is definitely not what he was expecting to come out of her mouth
âWhat do you mean âbeing an idiotâ? I haven't even done anythingâ He threw his hands up on the last word just for good measure. It's a childish gesture only Pandora Rosier could drag out of him.
âOh come on Ev, I know about Pettigrew.â Evan's heart stopped what Panda said his name. There was no way that she could possibly know.. right?
âYes Evan, I do know and you need to stop messing with that boy. It's giving me a bad reputation with the Gryffindors.â
âSince when do you care about your reputation?â Pandora looked at him blankly before huffing and rolling her eyes like he's somehow the biggest idiot alive.
âSince I wanted to snog the living daylights out of oneâ What. The. F-
âWhat?!â Evan honestly isn't proud of the expression his face is making right now. With the way his jaw is completely dropped and his eyes are almost bulging out of his head. He's also sure that there must be a vein in his forehead that's about to pop.Â
It's just that his sister had never ever been romantically interested in someone. She had always told him that âwhen the right person came she'd knowâ and until then she just âcouldn't be botheredâ. Seems like the right person had come. Hes about to start jumping up and down with joy for his sister before he remembers the subject of this conversation. His blood runs cold. Oh no.
âWait, you don't like Peter do you?â He doesn't wanna know. He doesn't want to have to fight his sister for Pete (even though he will. And he'll win).Â
âWhat? No you dimwitâ She flicked him on the forehead as if hoping it would jumpstart his brain cells. He doesn't even care though because the relief is so intense.
âWell then I don't really see the problemâÂ
âGods you're an idiot, how are we related.â Pandora folds her arms before continuing âYou and Bart are messing with Peter, which means Remus Lupin doesn't like you, which means Lily Evan's doesn't like you, which means she doesn't fully trust me, which means she won't be very inclined to letting me snog her face off.â
âWell good on you Panda! She's a beauty that oneâ That statement seemed to get through Pandora's wall because she instantly dropped her glare and put on her bright smile that Evan much more prefers.
âAin't she just, ugh, and she's smart. She really is just the whole package and I really think we hit it off at the lunch but then she got all distant, so I asked Marleen and she said that it probably had something to do with you two playing with Peter's feelings, which of course I already know that that's not what you and your idiot are doing but you two really need to figure it out so that Lily will stop avoiding me.â It still amazed Evan that even after knowing her his whole life she could still say so many words so fast and in just one breath.
âI'm still a little confused here Pansâ Pandora simply threw her hands up before walking to leave the alcove.
âJust tell him already Ev, he needs to hear it, clear as day.â And with that his sister was off and Evan was still left with quite a few questions but one thing was clear.
He needs to tell Peter how he feels.
Â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Â
Â
So he needs to tell Peter. That's quite literally the only solid piece of information that he retained from the conversation with his sister. It just so happened that the one thing he is supposed to do feels like the hardest thing ever.Â
He never thought of himself as a coward by any means but that's what he feels like as he's aimlessly wandering the halls before curfew trying to think of ways to tell Peter how he and Barty feel without telling him. Usually he'd confide in Barty about this but his boyfriend had never been the best at telling people how he felt about them. Barty's grand way of telling Evan that he had loved him for 5 years was just to snog the life out of him.Â
It was effective. But not very romantic.
And Peter deserved something romantic, he deserved to be serenaded. How that boy hasn't had thousands of people begging at his feet to date them is still a mystery to Evan. So this needs to be right, especially after all the heartbreak they put him through last year.
Evan didn't even realize he was walking towards the black lake until suddenly he was there staring out into the lifeless water. He was about to turn to head back to the castle when something caught his eye.
Peter was frantically pacing back and forth while seemingly talking to himself. It seems a little ironic that Evan had spent a week trying to get Peter alone and now that he probably should not be with him alone, here he is.
âWhat's the matter Petey?â Evan couldn't help but grin at the cute little jump Peter does before facing Evan with a distressed face.
âEv it's awful! I've finished my book, the one I was telling you about and I still haven't found the third one but I need to get my hands on it cau-âÂ
Now really this is not Evan's fault.
Merlin should have known better.
He should have known better than to send Peter in front of him looking this handsome in his red sweater. With the look that he gets when he's talking about something that he loves and he's looking at Evan like he's the only person he wants to rant to about his nerdy muggle books.
Evan couldn't help it.
The now golden sun was shining directly into Peter's eyes and hair making him look like a real angel.
And well, Evan couldn't stop himselfÂ
His resolve was so very weak and Peter's lips were right there.
So he grabbed the bloke by his face and pulled him into a kiss. Gods, he's spending too much time with Barty.
He couldn't really find it in himself to care that much though because Peter gasped and Evan used that to push his tongue in and then Peter started kissing him back and well⊠after that he stopped thinking for a while. It's different from kissing Barty, when you kiss Barty Crouch Jr it feels like the most exciting thing that you'll ever do. You get an intense high immediately and you never want to come down. Kissing Peter is the same high but instead of blasting up there in a flame of glory, Evan feels like he's floating, he feels like his feet will never touch the ground.Â
Then Peter is wrapping his arms around Evan's neck and pushing even closer and Evan has completely lost any train of thought he might had ever had. It does register in his head that Peter pulls away a bit before muttering an âEvanâ but Evan is too busy chasing his lips to care. And finally they're back to kissing and Evan gets to enjoy it before it's ripped away from him. This time much more forcefully with Peter yanking his lips away and putting a big amount of distance between them. Evan has half the mind to just chase his lips again.
Before he gets the chance they'res a
âHey, it's curfew now you two get insideâ Evan has never hated the prefects more than in that moment. He's going to turn to ask Peter if he wanted to walk in together but he's already picking up his stuff and jogging towards the castle before Evan could get a single word out.Â
So much for romantic
It was a little hard to be too mad at himself when he could still taste Peter on his lips.
