The Zabini dilemma
It was a late hour of the afternoon, as Blaise was sitting at the dinner table with his parents.
He ate his dinner quietly as they rambled on about work and politics, the most uninteresting topics, at least to Blaise.
Lost in his thoughts, however, he couldn't hear his mom calling out to him.
"Hello, Blaise! We're talking to you!" His father spoke in a higher tone to get his attention.
Blaise looked up at them, slightly dumbfounded. "Oh, I'm sorry... What did you say?"
"For Merlin's sake, Blaise! How many times do I need to yell to get your attention?"
"Sorry, mom..." Blaise replied guiltily.
"You've been like this since you came back from Hogwarts. What's got you so distracted?" His father interrogated with a raised brow.
"Nothing, really... It's not important." Blaise looked to the side as he muttered.
"He's been on that bloody phone the whole day!" His mom commented (annoyingly).
"Who knows, honey, maybe he's texting his crush..."
Blaise almost choked on his food as his father commented bluntly.
Their eyes widened as they stared at their son, who just shook his head and stayed silent.
"My boy really has a crush?" Mrs. Zabini exclaimed snarkily. "I don't..." Blaise denied with a grunt, turning away his flustering face.
"Come on, kiddo! It's great you've met another friend at school! You've been sticking around Draco and Pansy since you were toddlers!" His father proclaimed.
"By the way, have you read about that demon kid in the Daily Prophet? Just sickening!"
The tone of the room shifted quicker than Blaise anticipated.
"How could I not?! That brat is the only thing they've been talking about for months now!"
Blaise gloomily continued his dinner with a deadpan expression and knot in his throat.
"I simply can't believe how he's still allowed to remain a student! Dumbledore should've expelled him long ago!"
Listening to his parents' enraged claims, he finished his food with a slightly trembling hand and a deadly glare.
"To think Blaise is there with that demonic child is just-!"
Blaise jolted from his seat before his dad could finish. "I'm done." He stated in a monotone face as he picked up his plate.
"Oh wait, there's desse-" He already left. His parents just looked at each other surprised. "What's up with that kid..."
It took immense amount of self-control for Blaise to not slam his door shut. He set straight for his bed and buried his face into the pillow with a muffled growl.
After 5 minutes, a notification sound from his phone got him to shut up. And then another, and another.
He lifted his head and reached for it, just to see 200+ notifications from "demonlord367". He exhaled fondly, as he prepared himself for 10 minutes of scrolling.

Not a minute passed as Dazai sent another message.

Blaise turned off his phone and threw his hands to the side with a long sigh. He closed his eyes and Pansys message; "It's like he took over your whole life at this point." flashed in his mind.
Was this really a revelation for him? He always knew that he got attached to Dazai, but to have someone say it straight to his face...
Did he grow tired of his old friends? No, that wasn't true, it couldn't be. He's tried his hardest to get them to like Dazai, and for Dazai to like them back even so slightly.
He got ready for bed and wished his parents goodnight before doing so.
But there was no chance he could silence his thoughts now.
Why can't things just be easier? Why does he have to drag out every concern for Dazai just so he wouldn't pull himself away from him? Why is malice and misery following him at every step?
He daydreamed often of a scenario where Dazai would finally tell him everything, and Blaise could explain to everyone so he wouldn't get bad-mouthed ever again. Everyone is friends, and everything is as good as it can be.
He knows Pansy cares about him, and maybe even Dazai to some extent. But he doesn't need her worrying about rumors, or trying to 'protect' him from the Demon Student.
He's already decided that he'll stay by his side, whatever Hogwarts or the mafia throw their way.
Guilt started eating him inside as he thought about his last text to Dazai.
"I hope he understands." Blaise's last though was, before sleep finally overtook him.
Dazai spent the night rolling back and forth on his bed, reading "goodnight dazai ❤" over, and over, and over.
"love you" he deletes.
"sorry" he deletes.
