Chapter 20
The wedding was set for the fourth of August and everyone were thrilled.
The girls had visited many times James and Lily's apartment and Remus was trying his best to help with the wedding.
He wasn't really an expert.
It was ten days before the wedding when Remus and James were alone at the apartment, as Lily had gone shopping.
"I don't have anything to wear for the wedding.", Remus was getting worried about that, as the days passed and he had found nothing that he fancied and suited.
"Relax. We still have ten days until the wedding. We'll find something. Otherwise, you can just come naked. I bet Sirius would fancy that.", James winked and went to organize the kitchen.
"YES, YOU'RE LEAVING NOW THAT YOU'VE SAID SUCH THING.", Remus yelled from the living room.
Their home wasn't small.
It had three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a small balcony.
The couple had specifically told Remus that they chose this house, so he could have a bedroom and a bathroom of his own and Remus' heart had melted at that.
He opened his book to read - The Neverending Story, this time - when he didn't hear only Lily's footsteps at the door.
He pretended to read and he tried to stay calm and not show any awkwardness.
"Boys, I'm home. And I didn't bring just the groceries with me.", she said, as Sirius stepped into the room, and she closed the door behind.
James walked into the room with a plate and a towel in his hands, when both he and Remus turned to look at the door.
"SIRIUS!", he gave the plate to Lily and went to hug him. Sirius placed his full arms, from the bags, on the other man's back and looked at Remus and grinned.
That Sirius Black grin.
Remus hadn't seen that grin in months, longer than he had seen Sirius.
He got up from his chair and went to him, with the book trapped in his hand.
James broke apart and got the bags from Sirius' and Lily's hands and headed to the kitchen. Lily was next to follow, which left them both behind, alone.
They just kept staring at each other, as Remus tried to pull the grin, he was given, away from his mind.
Sirius smiled shyly, weakly and was the first that found the courage to break the silence.
"So, you're living here now?", he asked, trying his best not to sound awkward.
"Yeah. It was pretty kind of them that they let me stay.", Remus was calmer than he thought he would be.
"You could always -", Sirius stopped talking, as he realized what he was going to suggest. His cheeks turned pink and he stopped looking at Remus.
"So, how've you been?", Remus was desperate to know.
"Honestly?", he raised a eyebrow and looked at him again.
Remus just nodded.
"Awful. I miss you, Moony.", Remus wasn't the one desperate here.
He closed his eyes at the word - Moony - he hadn't heard it from his mouth since April.
" Sirius I-", as he went to talk, James and Lily entered the room.
" So, Sirius honey, you're staying for dinner, right?", Lily asked him and Sirius turned to look at Remus.
He went back to his chair. He didn't want to make Sirius more uncomfortable.
"Yeah.", he said, still looking at Remus. "Yes, I'm staying."
"Great! ", she didn't hide her excitement. "Love, let's go to the kitchen to cook some proper meal together, shall we? .", and with that she drugged him to the kitchen and closed the door behind.
"Oh, you mean I don't know how do cook, Lily?", James sounded from the kitchen, as Sirius went to sit on the couch, next to Remus' chair.
"Oh no, I didn't say that!", she said and made a pause.
"Well, actually, you're terrible at cooking. I don't know how Moony eats his whole meal every time. He must be really hungry the poor guy." and then, the young men laughed. Together. Like they hadn't been apart a day.
"You still eat like a pig, don't you?", Sirius asked him with a very small smirk.
"Some things never change. James' food is terrible. At least, me and Lily know how to cook.", he replied.
"You, Remus Lupin, know how to cook?", he sounded really surprised.
"Hey, don't sound so surprised. I eventually learned. Lily's cooking is fabulous. You'll see. Thank Merlin, you're here, because otherwise we'd have to eat James' trash.", he immediately regretted saying that. Not that he didn't mean it.
" Well, thank Merlin, then. ", and he smiled, really smiled.
And Remus smiled back.
Â
They had been alone for a while.
It was starting to get really awkward, but, Brimley, Lily entered the room, like she'd known the moment to step in.
"So, dinner will be served in a bit. Sirius, dear, how are you? I've missed you.", she sat on the couch, beside him, and squeezed his hand.
"I've missed you, too, Lils. How is life with Prongs and this pig over there?", he asked mockingly.
"Hey! I'm a perfect roommate!"
"He's right, he is. But, things are good! We're having a good time here, but James is cooking like a two - year - old. It's really terrible."
"Yeah, Moony told me. I pray for you two.", he said and Lily glanced at Remus, looking a bit happy that they finally talked, as If that
weren't her plan all along.
" You're staying with the brides, I've heard.", Lily said.
"Yeah. We're planning the wedding together. It's going really well.", he paused for a moment. " You're all coming right?", he turned to look only at Remus when he asked that, as if he wanted only him to be there.
Remus caught Lily's big smile behind Sirius when he gave him an answer.
" I wouldn't miss it for anything. ", he said with his eyes locked on Sirius'.
They stared again for a while and then Sirius coughed a little and returned to Lily.
"I'm going to the bathroom. Excuse me.", Remus announced and went to his room and relaxed against the wall.
He breathed heavily and tried to pull his shit together, because the love of his life was right outside.
"It was the greatest coincidence that I found you at the store, honey. I bet Remus believes that, too.", Remus heard Lily say that, despite himself and continued listening for a while.
"I hope so. I told him I missed him.", he confessed.
"And??", she sounded so surprised at that, that her next reaction hit Remus in the face.
"Oh Merlin! I'm such an idiot! I went to the kitchen to give you two some privacy, but James was so excited you were here that I couldn't hold him back.", the poor thing sounded so sorry and guilty for it, that Remus felt bad for her.
"Honey, it wasn't you. He wouldn't have said it back anyway.", that was true.
Remus couldn't say it back. If he did, he would throw himself at Sirius and kiss him until forever fell apart.
He couldn't do that.
After a minute, he got out of the room and went to help James make the table.
" I'm so happy he's here. I hadn't seen him in a while.", James told Remus, sounding happier than ever.
"I know, Prongs. Yes, it is nice."
James looked at him for a moment, but didn't dare to ask. He was too discreeted.
They talked through the dinner and Remus sat beside Lily, but still had Sirius right across him and their legs were touching all of the time. It wasn't like they were any of them short.
After they finished, they headed to the living room and Remus sat on his chair and Sirius on couch beside him, like before.
They talked about literally anything and they laughed their brains out and drank two bottles of tequila until they were all a mess.
"Are you sure you want to go, man?", James asked Sirius quietly on the door, as he was about to head back home.
"I don't trust myself around Remus, believe me when I say that. If you and your 'wife' went to bed, I would be begging on his door for hours.", Sirius admitted to James.
Lily didn't catch any of that and Remus was being very bad all evening.
He wasn't able to trust himself, either.
They cleaned up everything and went to bed and Remus fell asleep with the thought of his love on his mind and the smell of his - from a shirt he had stolen -, for another night.
It was the ninety-sixth night they had spent apart.
Â
The day of the wedding didn't take long to come.
Remus had found a very nice siege pants to wear with a small, brown belt on and a white, long sleeved shirt on top.
It was a good outfit and very suitable for a summer wedding.
He was prepared to lift up his sleeves later, which meant revealing his scared hands to Marlene's and Dorcas' families. But, he didn't care anymore.
He wouldn't hide his skin, so that he wouldn't be judged.
They arrived at the wedding and everyone was looking amazing.
Lily was wearing a long, linen, deep green, strap summer dress that matched with her ginger hair and green eyes and, apparently Remus.
James was wearing a white pants, which had a big, browned belt on it, too and a nice, light blue, sleeved shirt.
But Sirius... Merlin.
He had a white pants on, as well, with a black, tiny belt on, but... He had a black, crisp, shirt on, which had some of the buttons opened that reviled the skin of his chest.
He was so handsome that Remus couldn't take his eyes off of him.
Mary was standing beside him, with her marron, milkmaid, floral, dress on.
She was beautiful. The color looked amazing on her brown skin type.
Remus was impressed with himself for knowing all this clothing information - he had spent too much time with Lily at shopping.
They went to talk to them and Mary threw herself at Remus for a hug, as Sirius was scanning him from head to toe.
"Oh man, you look as sexy as Hell.", Mary teased him.
"You are beautiful, as well. You should wear that dress more often. Where is Cassandra?",he asked and gave Sirius a glance.
"Oh, she's on her way. She stopped by her house to see her parents, first.", she replied. "But you, my love, have changed a lot.", she took his hand and gave him a spin around, so she could have a better look of his outfit - or his ass.
" You're going to me blush.", Remus said, as he was laughing.
"She doesn't say anything it isn't already true.", Sirius finally talked and looked at him with hungry eyes that made Remus' heart running.
"Thank you. You look really good too.", he admitted, as he was trying his best to hide the redness of his face, but Sirius managed to see after all and smiled.
The ceremony took place in a big yard with so much green hugging it.
The place was beautiful and had more space that they needed.
When the wedding was about to begin, some drops of rain fell into Remus' face.
"Guys, I don't think it's gonna be sunny for a lot longer - ", he didn't manage to complete his sentence, as the rain fell harder.
Sure, it was the middle of London, but, also, the Fourth of August.
It was raining so hard that the brides got into their cars and decided to get marry at their house, where they would have the after-party.
Remus was getting so wet that his chest and back were showing of, the scars as well.
"I think we should go, too.", he yelled at Sirius, as they were the only two left behind.
Sirius' shirt was black, so Remus didn't see anything, except for the skin that had already been showed and that was more wet than ever.
He fixed his soaking wet hair, with his fingers and turned to look at Sirius, who had his mouth opened and eyes fixed on his face.
"Did you hear me?", he started yelling louder. "I said -"
" I LOVE YOU! I never stopped, Moony!", Sirius got closer, completely unbothered by the rain.
They were standing face to face when he continued his speech.
"What happened in April, was a mistake! I kissed her, yes. But I wanted to kiss you. When I turned around, I was coming to see you, to apologize, to confess my feelings and tell you what I did. But you had already seen me! And you were right. I don't know what it's like for you - to have the full moons, but I'm trying, okay? I always tried, from the moment I realized what you were going through. I even learned to transform into a dog because of you! Because I loved you! I've been in love with you since I was eleven years old and I understood what I was feeling when I fourteen, Moony! It's been six years from the day I met you and not one has gone by where I haven't thought of you! My heart beats because of you! My brain only thinks of you! Every cell, every bone, every shred of blood become alive when you lay a hand on my body!
I've missed you, Moony! I know you stole a shirt from me and I know that that shirt was your favorite and I didn't say anything! I knew you missed me, too - that you miss me, too. At least, I think so. ", he paused to catch his breath and put some hairs away from his wet face.
" I want to marry you. More than anything! I want to have a house with you and turn it into a home! I want you to cook me dinner and I want to rub your back when it's hurting from the full moons and I want you to be angry with me and yell at me and blush at my words and my touch and my presence and I want you to be the first person I see when I wake up and make my mood because I hate mornings, but not the ones that I have you by my side! ", he screamed the words, as he was throwing his hands in the air the whole time.
Remus' hair had fallen on his face and they had gone numb, just like him.
" If you don't want us to get back together, I'll understand. Even though I think we wasted all those months for nothing!! Because you're stubborn and selfish and my ego is bigger than the whole sky and I tried to talk to you ten days ago that was why I said I'd misse- "
Remus shut him up with a fierce, messy, wet kiss under the rain.
He cupped his face and held him there, without moving, wishing that Sirius would respond to him soon.
And he did.
He opened his mouth and let the way in for Remus' tongue.
He slipped it inside and felt alive again.
It was like he'd returned back home. And he had.
He brought Sirius closer and kept kissing him hungrily and passionately and desperately, because he was desperate for this man.
He broke the kiss and Sirius looked as surprised as he had been at Remus' sweet sixteen when he had kissed him for the first time at his party.
" I love you, too! You're right. About everything! I am stubborn, just like you! And I want to be with you until time breaks us apart and I did steal your shirt and I have been sleeping with it since we broke up because I can't sleep without you by my side, you big fucking idiot! You are my everything, I'm mental about you, you're the first and only person I have ever loved. I fell in love with you when we were in our first year at Hogwarts! I went mad when you were with Mary and I was so jealous and I thought it wasn't because you had a girlfriend and I didn't, but it was because Mary had you AND I DIDN'T. AND SHE WASN'T SUPPOSED TO HAVE YOU, I WAS AND I HATED HER FOR IT. She stole you without permission, not that I would've given it to her, but you get the point, I think. Okay? ", he finally breathed and felt his body again, under the rain with Sirius in front of him.
" When can I marry you? ", Sirius asked and laughed and Remus laughed, too.
And they hugged for what felt like forever and they kissed with their wet months and tore each other apart right there and they, finally, felt their hearts beating again. Under the arms of the person they had spent forever been desperate for.
