Chapter 16
"What happened? ", Lily asked, interrupting Remus' meal, not that he was really eating.
"What?"
"You don't eat, you don't talk, you don't have Sirius sitting next to you and I know that he's not at practice.", Lily was looking at him, like she'd known everything in his life.
"Where is he, love?"
" I don't know and, honestly, don't care.", he lied. He cared, always would for him.
"Oh, no, love. You do care, you've always cared for him. That never stopped being true. Did you have a fight? You don't seem like you're at the best place now."
" Yeah, no, we're not. I don't think we're together anymore."
"WHAT?", Lily's screams echoed through the room, but thank Merlin, the Grand Hall had only had five people in total. Remus wasn't aware of the reason. Dinner at Hogwarts was as good as breakfast.
"Yeah. We had a fight and trust me, not a simple one. We have been like this for a week now and I guess today we couldn't handle it anymore."
" Noo. You can't - I. You're Remus and Sirius. The couple of the year. Everybody knows how obsessed and in love you are with each other. You always figure it out. ", she tried her best to comfort Remus with her words, but she just failed.
" This isn't like any other time, Lils. "
" Bullshit! ", she hissed angrily." Listen to me you freak, you're not breaking up with the love of your life. It isn't just a crush. It's everything! You were serious about it! You wanted to live together, have an apartment of your own once you were finished with school, in FUCKING LONDON. YOU CAN'T JUST ERASE ALL THAT! ", Lily was, basically, more angry than any other person Remus would've told to- that was a lie actually, James would've gone truly mad.
" Lils, we - I... I don't know, I. It was my fault, I... Can I -? "
" YES! GO GET YOUR MAN, DUDE "
He was up and headed to the common room in a instant.
While he was running, he was considering the things he would say to Sirius.
It wasn't fair of Remus to react and talk like that, not when Sirius had spent his years trying to help and be there for him.
When he was going down the stairs, he heard music coming out of the room and different kinds of vividly lights were priming the walls.
They were having a party, he realized. A party that Remus and Lily had no idea about.
He stepped into the room and saw Mary and Cassandra kissing and dancing to the rhythm of the music.
He caught James talking to Peter and wondered where Sirius might be.
He heard his voice to his left, but the music was so loud that he didn't understand most of the things he was saying.
Then, he turned his head to his left and saw him.
There, against the wall, with a girl on his body.
" I'm getting married.", he said to the girl, trying to get away from her.
"I don't care." and with that, she cupped his head and put her lips clumsily in his, placing her body on the wall.
Remus was just staring at the sight, incapable of moving or thinking.
He went numb. He never expected Sirius to do something like that.
He didn't know if they were still together, but Sirius had told her that they were getting married and still let her kiss him.
He watched him break apart from the kiss and turn to leave.
He was rubbing his face when he saw Remus in front of him.
"Moony... What - I. What are you doing here?", he was trempling and he was nervous and he probably felt guilty as ever.
" You kissed her.", Remus didn't ask. He just let the words out of his mouth with a face straighter than ever. He had no idea how to react.
" Let's go outside. ", Sirius grabbed his hand and led them both out of the castle, at the place Remus and Mary were sitting and talking about their love lives some weeks ago.
"I didn't mean to - I swear... I love you, I'm sorry - I didn't want to -."
"Sirius -"
"She means nothing - I promise, Moony, you're it for me... I - I am -", and then he just stopped. He didn't know what to say, how to explain himself, what to believe about him.
"You let her kissed you.", Remus was the angriest he had ever been, but didn't show his temper. Instead, he seemed calm and was trying to talk to Sirius, without fighting.
" I..."
They didn't talk again. They just stared at each other. Sirius' guilty, sad eyes had no effect on Remus' mind or soul. He had nothing on him anymore.
Remus never thought Sirius would, actually, cheat on him.
" You kissed her even though you told her you were getting married to me.", he made that statement two times and Sirius didn't reply, didn't make a move at either of them.
" I'm going to sleep in my bed tonight. Thank you, for reminding me that coming to apologize to you was such a terrible idea. " and he left him all behind. Without any further explanation.
He went to their dorm, opened the curtains of his bed and slept, with his clothes on, on the coldest, emptiest bed he had ever laid his body on.
