Parents last straw
Marlene McKinnon, a 15 year old troubled girl with no form of right and wrong but a heart of gold had been kicked out of three secondary schools in her city. No schools in the area would take her, which led her desperate parents to the last option.
Boarding school.
Marlene begged and pleaded with her parents but they made the call, paid the money and packed her bags. She had four brothers, all grown up and in financial jobs. She was the last of the bunch to grow up, years and years of everyone around her tearing her down and ridiculing her didn’t work like it did to her brothers. She was born into the wrong family and she knew that.
“Don’t make me go!” She cried pouting like a child in trouble, stomping her feet in protest as her dad rolled her bags to the door.
“You have too!” He snapped “you’ve been kicked out of 3 schools Marlene!”
Her dad was intimidating to other people, he was cold and not the kind of person you’d think of as a father to five kids. Marlene looked at her mum trying to get her to change her mind but she was set on sending Marlene, Marlene couldn’t get out of it.
“I hate you all!” She screamed, grabbing her bags and dragging them across the floor to the car, making her poor mother sigh.
Her dad kissed his wife on the cheek and walked over to the car and got into the driver's seat, before her mum had a chance to say goodbye the car was down the road. The whole ride Marlene huffed and puffed and kicked the seat. After what seemed like hours her dad pulled into a car park and got out.
“Are we here?” Marlene muttered looking out the window waiting for her dad too unlock the door, she normally would open her own door except her dad put child lock on it after she threatened to jump out of it on the motorway.
“Yes we’re here now, get out.” Her dad demanded opening the door and watched his miserable daughter climb out of the car and grab her bags.
As they started to walk to the building Marlene made a note of her surroundings planning her escape route as soon as her father left. Gradually they approached the receptionist and Marlene still had a bratty pout painted across her face which made her dad grab her shoulder warningly. Marlene didn’t listen to what the two adults were talking about, instead she took interest in wandering off through a dark and empty hallway. She felt the tiny details on the ancient looking walls under her soft fingertips. She was quickly snapped out of her own world when she heard someone clear their throat behind her, it was a higher voice than her fathers? She whipped around cautiously, she expected an old stupid teacher at this shit school ready to drag her back to the front office but it was a girl. A beautiful girl She had copper locks that ended at her waist tied up in a low ponytail at the back of her head and emerald eyes that made the whole room spin.
“You’re not supposed to be down here.” The red head explained strictly making Marlene roll her eyes.
“And who are you to tell me what to do?” Marlene responded cockily, raising one of her eyebrows challengingly.
“Head girl.” She replied coldly
“So does this head girl have a name?” Marlene asked hopefully with a smirk now plastered on her faint skin.
“Lily, lily evans.” Lily answered with a now softer demeanour trying to hide an unmistakable grin behind her cold eyes.”But seriously you need to get out of there before you get caught.”
With no hesitation Marlene strolled out of the mystery hallway and back to the front office where her dad was signing a form.
“What’s that you’re signing?” She asked suspiciously.
“Just something for adults baby.” Her dad replied casually, she hated that stupid fucking nickname.
She grumbled but didn’t say anything back, once he was done signing the secret paper he walked over to his daughter and kissed her head, he hugged her and as embarrassing it was for her she hugged him back, burying her face into his giant chest before letting go and looking at a giggling lily. She turned a crimson red and muttered a shut up to her before looking at the ground. As head girl lilys job was to take Marlene to her designated dorm room. They walked up the long stairs before lily broke the silence by asking
“What’s your name?”
This caught Marlene off guard normally she was asking that question not the other way around.
“Marlene.” She said with a polite smile, not the charming one she was normally wearing.
Lily matched the polite smile before looking at the floor.
“Cool.” She mumbled not having anything else to say.
They reached a certain door and she knocked on it, the two girls heard a few crashes and a few “oh shit.” Before someone opened the door slightly, it was another gorgeous girl.
Was everyone here fucking stunning?!
She stood out more than anyone Marlene had ever met, with beautiful golden skin that was clearly high maintenance and coils that made her want to run her fingers through them.
“This is your new roommate, Marlene.” Lily announced. “Marlene, Mary, Mary, Marlene.”
The only thing Marlene could think about right now is how her name would sound coming out Mary’s mouth.
“Your bags will be brought up in a minute so just stay in there until they are.” Lily added, pushing a very nervous Marlene into the room and scurrying away.
