Epilogue

There was one problem in Alexandra Finch's perfect life.

Maudie Buford

Alexandra was the definition of a proper Finch lady. From the very beginning of her life she was told how to be perfect, and without a doubt she listened. Her whole life was laid out in front of her, and Alexandra was happy to follow it, that was until Maudie started complicating things.

Maudie Buford was the complete opposite of Alexandra, of what a lady should be. Maudie was boisterous and sarcastic. She ran around and played in the mud alongside Atticus and Jack. However Alexandra couldn’t help but be drawn to this woman. It didn’t help that Atticus and Jack hung around her nonstop. Alexandra was starting to find it rather annoying how much they would talk about Maudie. It didn’t help that whenever Maudie would laugh, butterflies rumbled in Alexandra’s stomach or whenever Maudie would compliment Alexandra, her face would turn redder than the camellias in the Finch landing’s garden.

Alexandra did a good job at pushing these feelings, but some nights she wondered what it would be like to sit with Maudie on the porch of the Finch landing, to hold her hand and to be close to her. It didn’t matter however, because no matter how much Alexandra wanted it, this was the one thing she would never try to get. It was unthinkable. A Finch lady should never think such thoughts. Her mother talked about how one day Alexandra would marry the perfect man to keep the Finch family bloodline strong, and Alexandra never questioned this. She was content with the life so perfectly laid out for her.. but ever since meeting Maudie, she couldn’t help but wonder if there was something more out there.
