The First Day
The previous night had been filled with warm laughter and friendly chatter between the four girls. At about 11, Juvia had snuck away, back to the Ravenclaw common room and the remaining trio decided to finally lay down to rest for the night.
✨✨✨
Lucy's eyes fluttered open, squinting at the brightly lit room. She sat up begrudgingly, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. She turned her gaze to the other beds. The brunette was laid outstretched, her sheets strewn across the floor. Cana was snoring obnoxiously, her mouth open wide, which made Lucy chuckle under her breath.
Directly opposite her was the sight of the pretty smiling girl. Unlike the star spread atrocity beside her, Lisanna's sheets gently rested over her shoulders and her expression was calm. The difference in her two new friends was odd but loveable nonetheless, Lucy let out another breath of laughter as she stood up to make her way to the bathroom.
After they'd all gotten ready, the three made their way excitedly down to the great hall for breakfast. Upon arriving, they sat down at one of the long wooden tables, begging to place foods onto their golden plates.
"Lu!" The lining of a blue robe flew past Lucy's eyes, and before she knew it her book loving friend was sat beside her.
"Levy!" She cried squeezing the bluenette into a tight hug. Lucy's two newer friends chose to not intrude on their interaction, becoming lost in conversation with one another.
"How's your house been?" Levy sighed, still smiling however.
“It's alright, I made friends with this one girl, i think her name is Juvia Lock- something.."
Lucy's eyes brightened "Hey! I met her, she seems sweet, although kinda obsessed with.. Gray? yeah Gray." She was having a hard time remembering everyone's names.
A loud yawn came from behind her. She sighed rolling her eyes. "Hello Natsu."
He smiled a toothy grin at her "Mornin' I'm starvin'!" He called in response, eyeing up the large plates of different foods.
Her blue haired friend cocked her head in confusion. "Who's this then?"
"This, is Natsu Dragneel." She answered, a hint of sarcasm in her voice. "But let me make it clear that we are not friends." she continued sternly, shooting a glare at him.
"Right.." Levy still sounded thoroughly confused, but decided not to question it any further.
"Anyway," Lucy turned back to face her friend fully. "Whatcha got first?" she asked, taking a large bite out of her toast.
"Uhhh.." Levy replied, digging into her pocket and pulling out a small piece of parchment paper. "Potions!" she finally exclaimed.
"Damn, i was hoping we'd have a class together.." The blonde replied opening her own printed paper now. "Looks like i've got.. astronomy!" She gleamed, it was her favourite thing to study back at home.
"Well i should probably head back to my table now, see ya later Lu!" Levy smiled, wriggling out of the bench and making her way back to the other side of the hall.
"Any idea which house we're sharing a class with?" Piped up the black haired boy. Lucy was slightly startled at first but replied nonetheless.
"No clue, we'll probably just have to find out when we get there. Why?"
"I just hope we don't get lumped in with those losers." He gestured towards the emerald green banner, hanging above the set of tables next to them.
"Slytherin.. hm." She muttered to herself, however her thoughts were interrupted by the loud chewing of the pink haired boy beside her. "Could you try and keep your food in your mouth? just maybe?" she narrowed her eyes as he continued to guzzle down loads upon loads of food.
"I'm super hungry! Gotta eat as much as I can before first period" He responded through the eggs and bacon stuffed in his mouth. Lucy grimaced at the food flying around him.
✨✨✨
The trio of girls stumped up the tall hill, heading to the spiral tower. It was a shiny grey colour and the polished bricks shone when they caught the light. She admired the structure before stepping inside. She assumed it was a newer part to the school as it wildly contrasted the mossy, dark main building.
"Lis, do you have a spare quill, I think i left mine in the dorm?" She tapped the white haired girl on the shoulder as they lined up outside of the classroom awaiting the teacher.
"Oh, yeah of course Luce!" she beamed. 'What a sweet girl.' The blonde thought to herself.
A short woman stumbled out of the classroom, she was about Lucy's own height. Her hair was a soft pink, more cotton-candy-ish than the salmon colour of Natsu's hair. Under her robes she was wearing a little white dress that looked as if she had crocheted it herself. Her face seemed to be stuck in a perpetual state of nervousness and worry.
"H-hello c-class pl-please come in" she mumbled, barely reaching the ears of the students. "You-You're other classmates are-e already seat-ed.." she gestured through the door.
'Seriously? this was their teacher?' But Lucy didn't want to judge too harshly based off first impressions and so stepped into the room.
It was a large, dome shaped classroom. Desks placed precariously on levels of flooring. The scent was thick with sweet perfume and the air hot, and humid. She scanned the room, seeing a collection of students in rich green-lined robes. "So we are stuck with them" she mumbled to Gray who sighed as he looked around at the collection of students.
"Damn it." Lucy couldn’t help but giggle at his shouting.
"P-please refrain from o-outbursts!" the woman squeaked at him.
"Sorry" He mumbled under his breat, dragging an oblivious Natsu to one of the higher level seats.
Lucy and the others made their way to a small circular table. The fabric atop it was velvety and a maroon colour. Sat above that was a small model telescope, beside an equally small stack of books with a navy cover, and gold engraved lettering that read 'Studies of Astronomy'.
The table already had three occupants, both in green robes, both slouching. One of the boys was large and beefy, his stature was particularly intimidating for a first year. His hair was black, but not like Gray's, it was more like an infinite void of darkness that never caught the light. It trailed down his back, spiky and messy. It looked coarse and mostly blended into a sculpture along his head. His eyes were narrow and a piercing red, his teeth were sharp and fixed into an aggressive glare that felt to Lucy, if she looked too long at his face lined with piercings, that it might literally become a deathly stare.
The boy directly beside him was less.. mammoth, however Lucy could tell he was still muscular because he had ripped off the long sleeves of his robes, and the stitching was now frayed and messy looking. His hair was a whitish blonde not dissimilar from her own, it was short and softer looking than the other boy's. His expression was in a contorted mix between a hearty smirk and an annoyed look.
Finally she rested her gaze on the third boy. She couldn't get a good look at his face as it was aimed toward the ground and shielded by his dark hair. He looked much slimmer than his friends and his skin was paler. When he finally did lift his head he looked just as Lucy had pictured. Big dark eyes, and a continuous sense of worry about him. He was, what Cana would call an- "Are you like, emo? Or just depressed?" The loud mouth girl questioned, as she slumped into her seat.
Lucy elbowed her and gave her a look that read 'Shut up'. "Sorry about her," She shot the brunette another glare. "so anyway, I'm Lucy, this is Cana and that's Lisanna! What's your name’s?" She beamed, as she sat in a much more polite manner than her friend. Gesturing to the girls by respective name.
The blonde sat up from his slump and rested his head in his hand atop the chestnut table. "The names Sting." He looked her up and down, his voice was pronounced and gravely, Lucy felt like she was being judged, harshly. "This is Gajeel," he darted his eyes to the left and then to the right of himself "And that's Rouge." He finished.
"Don't talk to them dumbass, they're just a bunch 'a stupid girls." The first boy remarked, not looking at any of them.
Lucy furrowed her brow. His voice was even more raspy and harsh than the blonde's. It was deep and kind of hard to hear exactly what he was saying. "Oh? And who are you to judge, delinquent" She jabbed back. He blinked slowly and flicked his eyes at her.
"Shuddup, blondie. We're not here to make friends with you lions." He mumbled.
'Who does this guy think he is?! Way to make a good impression on the other house Luce.' She whispered in her mind, opening her text book.
