It was Lucy Heartfilia's first day at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and suffice to say she was nervous. On the train ride she had made good friends with a blue haired witch named Levy Mcgarden, they had bonded over their love of reading and it was definitely true that knowing someone made it much easier to step through the towering metal gates onto the school grounds. It was night and pitch black outside, but all the first year students were quickly ushered inside by Professor Porlyusica. She was clearly an older lady as displayed by the wrinkles lining her face, she had an intimidating demeanour about her, but that was partly stricken away by her pinkish hair, that had been tied back into a tight bun. "Alright first years, you are about to be sorted into your houses in front of the rest of the school." The two girls clung to one another listening intently as the elderly witch described the house system to the group. "Don't stress since believe me they really couldn't care less." She continued.
As the first years shuffled their way into the Great Hall, Lucy was captured by the sheer scale and design of the building, she was quickly pulled away from her gaze on the magical ceiling caving over them however, as she felt a tug on her robes. "Lucy what if we get separated?" Levy's face showed that she was clearly much more nervous than herself.
"Don't worry, cuz even if we are I'll still see you round school! Plus it's a chance to meet new people!" Lucy beamed at her which lead Levy to soften her gaze, finally taking in the moment.
"Look at all that food!" Lucy heard a slightly raspy yet excited tone from her left, she turned her head laying her eyes on a taller boy. The first thing she noticed about him was his strikingly pink hair, she had seen unique colours all around, but seeing such a boy with an oddly soft tone of pink for hair was almost laughable. His skin was tanned and his eyes a murky green colour, he was sporting a white, scaly looking scarf atop his robes, it was most likely against the uniform but she wasn't about to snitch on her first day.
"Dude chill, people are staring." Lucy's eyes shifted to the boy stood next to him. A boy of similar height rolled his eyes at the excitable boy. He looked much more..respectable? She couldn't think of a better way to describe him. His hair was similar to the shiny black of a ravens feathers, which contrasted his pale skin. His eyes were narrow and his pupils large, making it hard to tell exactly what colour the iris' around them were. He seemed to give off a relaxed air to him unlike his bubbly friend.
"But this is so boring, when d'ya think they'll let us chow down?" Lucy found herself rolling her eyes this time and she decided not to waste any more of her energy eavesdropping on the two's seemingly immature conversation.
"Heartfilia, Lucy." Her ears pricked up and her eyes widened hearing her name from the stern professor. This snapped her back to reality as she was beginning to remember how nervous she felt. Her legs trembled as she squeezed past the crowd of her soon to be classmates. She promptly sat upon the wooden stool as Porlyusica placed the dusty hat on her shiny golden hair.
"You're a tough one to read aren't you sweetheart.." As the hat spoke she felt it vibrated slightly, it wasn't a pleasant feeling she knew that. "You've got the brains..and I can tell your a loyal one buttt.." Lucy was holding her breath at this point waiting for it to call out a house name. "Yes alright, seems it'll be..GRYFFINDOR!"
The blonde grinned standing to take her seat, as she stood from the stool the lining of her robes transformed into a soft, deep red fabric before her eyes. She giggled winking at Levy before taking her seat.
"Mcgarden, Levy." Lucy watched intently as her timid friend made her way up to the stool. She gave two encouraging thumbs up alongside a smile to Levy's wandering gaze. After a few moments of humming and ha-ing from the worn old hat she heard it yell loudly
"RAVENCLAW!"
Lucy's smile dropped slightly realising she had lost her one companion, however she forced herself to continue with the cheerful expression as to not worry Levy. She watched disappointedly as the ocean blue hair of her friend disappeared to the other side of the hall. For the next few minutes Lucy just sat playing with her food, she had lost interest in the ceremony and tuned out the sound of the names and loud hat.
"Uhh, you gonna eat that?" The familiar voice entered her ears. She flinched slighly turning to look up at the face next to her.
"You have got to be kidding me." Sure enough the salmon haired boy sat grinning at her, though his eyes quickly snapped back to her plate as he looked longingly at it.
"Oh just take it." She replied reluctantly.
"So why'dya look all sad?" He questioned.
"My friend and I got separated..soo that sucks."
She looked down at the table trying to ignore the sounds of the boy scoffing food. "Dang that does suck, I'm still stuck with this ice-princess." She looked up as he gestured to the raven haired boy.
"Ice princess?" She furrowed her brow
"That's just what I call him cus he's so mean to everyone" He answered matter a factly.
"Right." She responded, a judging glare resting on her face. "So-" he wiped the food residue from around his mount as he continued "Your names Luigi right?" Her judgemental expression turned into an annoyed glare.
”The name's Lucy! Lucy Heartfilia. And you are?" He grinned bearing his oddly sharp looking teeth, holding out his hand to shake hers.
"Natsu Dragneel, don't forget it!" She couldn't help but let out a small giggle at his goofy expression, taking his hand
"alright." She smiled softly.
