That's Gonna Hurt
Gaia is crying as she watched Earth. “Well, that was not suppose to happen like that. If I don’t find out what went wrong, this will all go back to Chaos.”
Soon others joined her; Uranus, Pontus, Ourea. Nyx and Tartanus. Eros came but looked ill. Chaos also came and looked more ill than Eros. In fact, they all looked ill. If this was going back to Chaos, they should look more robust.
Themis, the Titan goddess of divine law and order, was needed. As well as Chronos the god of time and Hecate the goddess of magic.
Chaos comes closer to Gaia. “Without you, all is lost. We should have Chronos help us view history to see if there is a single point that every thing changed. When was the last time you took a good look and it was well?”
“Every area has some kind of disaster that is horrible to them. I don’t recall one moment that something wasn’t happening if you count the lead up and recovery. London and Chicago both had devastating fires but London’s fire also killed the rats that was carrying the plague. Chernobyl area is still unlivable and it itches like a rash I can’t reach. So does the Valdez oil spill from 1989 and they think that is cleaned up. The tsunamis and earthquakes can have extensive and expensive human damage but the damage to the animals, habitats and actual landscape hurt more. Then there are floods, landslides, wildfires, droughts. There are so many ways to do damage and what is horrible for me, isn’t always horrible for the people. And vice versa.”
“If we’re trying to fix things, could we do something about the Spanish Flu? Should we? It is the worst by death toll but things were learned and advances made. AIDS does not have the same death toll but it is ongoing even now.”
“I’m wondering if we stop HIV from jumping to humans, would we still have the discrimination and prejudice of the LGBTQ+ community? Any way Stonewall could happen earlier?”
“What about slavery?”
“I’m getting a headache.”
“I think we need to talk to Athena, Ares and Soteria. I’m wondering if there was an overlap in location where Athena or Ares got significantly stronger while Soteria got weaker. Let’s see how many there are, find the worst ones and see if the others have issues. Maybe one spot will stand out and we can take a look.”
The group is talking quietly amongst themselves trying to come up with a plan. One by one they quiet down as they look into the distance and see a figure walking towards the group. They start whispering with each other again as no one recognizes the figure. It seems to be taking much longer than expected.
Finally they are close enough to talk and the group sees it is male. He bows. “Hello. I’m Lucifer.” Lucifer is laughing inside thinking of The Doctor. Most of the group is startled. “I see you’ve heard of me.” Lucifer is smirking, “Forgive me.” Lucifer stands taller, “I’m on a Mission.” He waves his hand and a round table with chairs appears. “Perhaps you’d like to sit.”
Everyone sits but there are empty chairs.
“As much as it pains me to say this,” he looks down then up and breathes deeply, “there is only one God.” Lucifer looks around the table. “The Creator is known by many names. Many people believed that their God was the only God and he’s okay with that. What he’s not okay with is what is below. He has given these people free will and the life of His Son and most have spit in his face.”
“Recently, World War II was started by Adolf Hitler but it still would have happened without him. Maybe it would have been worse. Hitler did not start the problem, he is only one of the symptoms.”
“One of the best things you could do is help the magicals. Many have the belief of I’m better than everyone else and the group is not big enough to survive. Great Britain is one of the worse but not the only one that needs fixing. Voldemort did not start the problems with Magicals, he is only one of the symptoms.”
“Sound familiar?”
What you see down there is what happens when a magical crosses over to rule the non-magicals. Another problem is that, in England, the “good” guy wasn’t. Dumbledore’s thinking was closer to Hitler than Voldemort’s was”. The group is startled once again and one is thinking that this is a good spot for a heart attack. More than one is wondering why no one noticed how bad it had gotten.
Lucifer continues, “Albus is one of three children. He is the eldest child but that doesn’t mean much when your family is poor and has no say in the Government. He is jealous and greedy. His brother is more liked and his sister is more powerful. Perhaps if he is less smart and less magical. Maybe make him more of a simpleton. His greed lead him to not watch his sister like he was asked to. If he is too simple to be responsible enough to do that, maybe Adriana will not be attacked. I firmly believe that if Albus is smart, even if a squib, he will feel jealous and greedy and still be a problem. Albus wants to be remembered as greater than Merlin. He wants to be worshiped. I did not look to see if he could die early.”
“I’m not sure about Voldemort. He could go either way. He is also jealous and greedy and much more powerful than Dumbledore. Maybe if his Mom is saved and he grew up loved and lower middle-class, away from London. Could he be a powerful Minister? Headmaster? Beloved teacher?”
“Or can Voldemort be another Hitler but with Magic.”
The group is startled at that. “Voldemort’s birth name is Riddle. What can be done to keep him from becoming Voldemort.”
Dumbledore’s turning point was his sister’s death. Voldemort’s turning point was WWII. I do not know if Dumbledore’s turning point was a good thing but I do not believe it was.”
Grindlewald is a wildcard. Dumbledore took advantage of him and WWII. They meet in Godrics Hallow after Grindlewald is expelled from Durmstrang. Gindlewald wanted to find the Deathly Hallows and was into ruling the world. He experimented which is what got him expelled. Maybe he can be caught earlier and die on his way to Godrics Hallow. You’d have to see what happened to the ones he experimented on.
If I had to fix this world, I would look at Dumbledore’s life and Voldemort’s. What good did they do. Is there someone that could do it instead. Are they connected to anyone that we should be careful of. Is there a person that absolutely must be rescued, someone at a nexus.
"I'm sure if the trouble was someone sooner then Dumbledore, the end would have happened sooner. Maybe he is a puppet for someone instead of being the puppet master?
There are many others that did bad things, some did horrible things all on their own but some only thought of it after these two.
Too many ideas are advanced, technologies discovered, and alliances made for the big wars, pandemics and some natural disasters to be “fixed”. If I could, I’d look for some that could be saved. I don’t know if Alan Turing could be, he’s such a public figure, but he should be. Maybe Nagasaki isn’t needed or maybe both could smaller-still horrible but not quite as big. Maybe Chernobyl isn’t quite as big. You can’t avoid that one but maybe the winds are not as strong. What if only one Tower was hit during 9/11 because the 4th plane crashed upon takeoff? Any way to demolish Al-qaeda headquarters in 1992? What about the Taliban movement founded in the early 1990s? What if an extra person or family, or two, are saved each time? Of course, the easiest thing is to keep things the same on the non-magical side. Going over who dies and what they were working on will be a nightmare.
“In another dimension, much like this one, a women was jealous, delusional, and functionally insane. She believed she would marry Harry Potter because they were soulmates. They weren't even friends. She destroys a building and everyone in it to kill one adult. The adult was friends with Harry Potter. Friends, not dating, just friends. One of the children in the building could have grown up and a descendant some 400 years later could have found the cure to bitten lycanthropy. The building was Hogwarts during school. The woman was Ginny Weasley. There were over 500 children in the building, including some of her extended family. This isn’t as unlikely as you’d think and I’m surprised it didn’t happen more often. Following the trail would be interesting. “See, everything needs to be checked and double-checked. That Ginny, and almost all Ginnys, wrote in a diary that released a basilisk in her first year. If Harry is not a parselmouth he won’t hear the snake. What changes does that make? If he is but it is seen as just another language like mermish? What if Harry is a beast speaker and talks to the owls before he talks to a snake? What if there are others that can speak to animals? If Dumbledore is not the Headmaster will the diary make it into the school? What if Dumbledore kept the wards in good condition? If Voldemort is Riddle instead is there a diary? “Personally, I’d look into Dolores Jane Umbridge, she was evil.” The whole group sits up. “Yes, I’m saying that. My evil has a plan, plot and purpose. She is a classic case of a small person taking advantage of her big position. She really shouldn’t have a big position but Fudge is an idiot.”
