Sirius knows he's always a bit overprotective, a low throuming that's always been there since when he first met his baby brother to now.
his baby brother is laying his head in his lap utterly exhausted after taking one of sirius's punishments. it was supposed to be him, he knows that he had been talking back to their mother and then instead of just punishing him which she did, she also decided to punish regulus so sirius watches his sleeping brother.
and knew he was going to run away from his home,
this god forsaken household. and he did beaten and bloody he dragged regulus with him out the front door down the street to apparate to the Potter's House.
Effie had been wonderful so had fleamont and so was James but that was expected. but he did not leave any of them alone with regulus especially not James,
he knew his best friend had a crush on his little brother he knew this he knew he had crush on him since his baby brother's first year he also knew this. that doesn't mean he needs to like it okay.
Unfortunately he also knew his baby brother also liked James.
but the wounds were still too fresh everything had happened not too long ago so he did not feel like dealing with it, so he didn't he didn't tell regulus that James had feelings for him and he did not tell James that regulus had feelings for him.
Did he know it was wrong? yes.
but he didn't care he wanted to protect his baby brother no matter the cost and if that meant keeping secrets from his brother then so be it,
just because they have crushes on each other does not mean that they are going to work with each other, or be healthy
Or for James has the balls to protect regulus. so he kept the secret and he had been going strong on that and then James came up to him and asked him 'can I Court your baby brother'

Remus watched as sirius came down from their dormitory followed by James
James was clearly begging he had been for. Merlin monhs?
He remembers the conversation, well the aftermath of the conversation.
he walked into their dormitory and saw James on the floor. desperately trying to protect his face while sirius punched him. repeatedly.
he needed to go over and pull sirius off of James while Peter helped James up and to check the damage things that there wasn't too bad this is make a quick trip to pomfrey and he was fine. and when remus asked sirius why he was beating his best friend.
sirius response was not what he expected, 'he wants to date my brother and I can't let him I don't want him to'
had been sirius response Remus had not pushed him he could tell that serious was in a emotionally unstable moment he later found out what had actually happened.
apparently James came up to sirius and after if he could start courting regulus

Sirius gets a response from his letter that he sent Effie not 2 days ago, she talks to him about her day. It's an all together very pleasant letter that she sent, but then she talks about unease setting in herself sirius knows there is a war that is brewing.
he knows this yet he is still does not know whether he should fight. or take everyone he has ever loved and hide them somewhere safe for they will never be found.
