Wings of fire x Hogwarts au 4

Honestly, I had no idea how to handle Starflight’s chapter, lol. Hope this works.

Quidditch. If there was one thing Starflight was not excited to learn about, it was Quidditch. Sure his half sister loved it, but he only saw her on occasions and she enjoyed laughing at his failures over trying to help him get better, and his dad was certainly as lost of a cause as he was. Supposedly his mother was a great Quidditch player, but his sister got those genes, not him.

The most frustrating part was that he did so well in his other classes! Charms? He was of course the first one to get the feather to float. Defense against the dark arts? He was the only one who knew what a blast-ended skrewt even was. Potions? He knew every single ingredient and how to get them for a brew that cured syphilis. He could even transform a feather into a different bird's feather in transfiguration!

“So why couldn’t I get this stupid broom into my hands?!”

Starflight was standing out on the Quidditch, muttering for the broom to come to him. Professor Six-claws said he could borrow a broom for it so Starflight stood outside in the rain while his four friends watched with bored expressions. “You guys don’t have to stand there if you are just going to judge!” He hissed, shooting them a glare.

“We’re *sitting*, genius.” The Slytherin said as she yawned. “Besides, you’re doing it wrong.”

Not exactly the thing that would calm Starflight down. He whirled on her and sat his hands on his waist. Steam might as well have blown out from his nose. “What exactly am I doing wrong? Do tell.”

Glory pointed to the broom, leaning her head to the side as her other hand covered her eyes. “You’re just telling the broom to come to you. You need to demand it, like it’s an order.” She said as if that made any sense.

“It’s a broomstick.” Starflight said with a groan. “Why would that even matter?”

Sunny perked her head from Clay’s side as she hid by him to avoid some of the rainfall. “Cuz it’s magic.” She said, which got a laugh from the others as Starflight just crossed his arms. “Think about it. Why should the magic work if you aren’t putting effort into it?”

“I am putting effort into it.” Starflight groaned.

Tsunami was practicing her lumos charm, making a small ball of light flicker on and off repeatedly. “I don’t see why you care about getting this one right. It’s not like you lose points for not getting the broom into your hands.”

Starflight really got why she wasn’t in Ravenclaw. “Because if I can’t get the basics down, then how am I supposed to even understand the rest of it?!”

Glory shrugged, leaning back against the stand on the pitch. “I doubt you’re going to try out for Quidditch. But if you really want to get this right, treat the broom as a person, not an object that has to obey you.”

Starflight eventually got the broom into his hand…once. And luckily for him, that was all he needed to feel a bit more confident, though what really made him feel confident was when they switched over to wand motions as Tsunami kept struggling with the motion for lumos. He always felt more comfortable when he was teaching the others instead of it being the other way around.

Soon enough, all five were hosting large orbs of light above their heads as the rain poured around them. Of course, Sunny and Glory wouldn’t stop bringing up how it was their advice that got him to finally get the broom off the ground.

Though oddly enough, that didn’t really bother Starflight as much as he thought it would. He was used to his half sister picking on him when he didn’t understand something (A big reason he tried to learn as much as possible, so if she needed an answer, she couldn’t make fun of him for not knowing…though she’d just call him a nerd instead), but this was different. The others at least tried to help him.

“And they only got annoyed because I wasn’t listening.” He thought, realizing his mistake. He was happy to join in as they played a game Sunny made up called ‘Broom tag’, where one person has to stand in the center and make the broom float with wingardium leviosa to fly after the others and tag someone. It was surprisingly tough trying to control the broom, but each turn the kids got better and better at controlling it. There were a few close calls, like Clay almost slamming the broom into a stand or Tsunami almost smashing it into the ground trying to catch Sunny. But, eventually their fun would end as Starflight noticed how much darker it was now. “I think we should get back to the castle.” He said, making the ball of light at the tip of his wand so he could see better. “Dinner should be starting soon.”

Tsunami huffed but floated the broom to Clay who grabbed it. “Guess we should. Who’s taking the broom back to Professor Six-claws?”

Starflight was about to make the obvious assertion that he would, but Clay spoke for him. “Would it be alright if we all go? I’m sure we’ll have time to do that and still make it to dinner.” He said, using his wand to use lumos as well.

Glory didn’t look too interested in that idea, but after a second, she shrugged and led the way with Sunny beside her. “Eh, why not.” They began talking about their classes for the next day, but Starflight couldn’t help but think about other things.

Specifically, how the lights illuminated the different colors on their robes. He recalled how he recalled how one of his roommates, Marsh, asked him why he was hanging out with other students instead of Ravenclaws (Something Starflight didn’t understand. Wasn’t the whole point of Ravenclaw to learn new things? Hard to do that if you stay in your own house). In truth, he was really loving hanging out with Clay, Tsunami, Glory, and Sunny. Yeah they were from different houses, but he didn’t think that mattered. The five just had so much to talk about! “Though Sunny could stop being so freaked out about creatures like vampires, werewolves, and the like.” He thought as that seemed to be a no-go subject for her.

The five reached the castle stairs and as they marched up, he spotted a familiar face and felt his hands tighten on his wand. He tried to look in the opposite direction, seeing some statues lining the stairs until Clay did the worst thing he could have at that moment.

“You alright, Starflight?”

He felt the gaze of an unfriendly face burn into him as he finally forced him to nod, but his sister decided to show why he looked so uncomfortable. “Starflight? Well look at you! I didn’t think you’d be able to make friends! Color me surprised.”

Fierceteeth was a year older than him and had the same-colored hair, though her face was more like her dad while Starflight took after their mom. Her long, curly black hair was as dark as it was scary when she got mad. Her boyfriend, Strongwings, turned on the group as well and he was about as big as Clay. Starflight didn’t know the name of her third friend, but she looked as ready for pranks as Fierceteeth so she was in good company.

Tsunami wasn’t nearly as intimidated by the students as Starflight figured she should be. Instead, she stood up taller and glared at Fierceteeth and her squad. “Starflight? Want to tell us about your friend here?” She asked, clearly not at all excited to introduce herself.

“Can’t really lie about it.” He thought sadly as he wiped off some of the rain from his head. “This is Fierceteeth. She’s my sister-”

Half-sister.” She said with a toothy smirk. “Now what attracted you four to my loser of a brother? Unless you’re all just as lame as he is.” She said, checking out Starflight’s friends as if looking for any weaknesses.

Unfortunately for her, Glory didn’t seem to be showing any. “If he’s the loser of the family, I can’t imagine what you are.” She shot back, matching Tsunami’s disdainful look.

Instead of looking agitated as Fierceteeth did at Tsunami, the second year looked at the emerald and silver encrusted part of Glory’s robe with interest. “And what’s a Slytherin doing palling around with a dumb lion?” She asked, resting her hands on her hips. “Eh, I’ll let it slide since you’re new.” She said, offering her hand out. “Just remember who the *right* group of people you should hang out with is.”

Starflight wanted nothing more than for his friends to just hurry through the doors and avoid Fierceteeth all together. Unfortunately for him, this isn’t what he would get as Glory swatted the older students hand away, ignoring the light growl from Fierceteeth. “I’d rather kiss a troll.”

“We’re just trying to return a broom to Professor Six-claws.” Starflight said, speaking up as he tried to stop the escalation. He still stood by Clay, but he did meet his sister's eyes.

She however, didn’t seem interested in that at all. “Cool, too bad that’s not what I care about.” She said, glaring at him as she always did when she was unhappy with him (Which was always). She then turned back to his friends and pointed at them. “I want to know how you expect to keep these four defending you if you plan to just talk their heads off with useless information.”

Clay’s hands balled into fists as Starflight saw an angry look in his eyes, something he didn’t think Clay was capable of. “Not acting like you seems to help.” He said simply.

Her hateful gaze turned to Clay as she began to put her hand on her wand and Starflight felt his body shiver. “Clay doesn’t know any small defense charms!” Starflight piped up and gripped his fists. “Hey! We just want to get into the cast-!” He said, hoping to calm the situation down. The last thing he remembered was his sister interrupting him with, “Stay out of this, runt!” And with that, two spells were fired at her.

Tsunami and Glory both spoke at once so Starflight didn’t know what they said specifically, but he knew by what their spells they casted by the fact that his sister's nose began to bleed and she was pushed to the top of the stairs where she fell on her back. The last thing Starflight saw was Strongwings and the other Slytherin pointing their wands and a black blur covering his vision as another grabbed onto him, pulling him to the ground.

Clay had quickly stood between Starflight and the two Slytherin’s as Tsunami fired a spell at Strongwings while Glory fell back with an enlarged eye. Sunny had been the one to tackle Starflight, getting him to duck for cover. He heard a few more spells be cast before a sharp voice ended the fight.

“ENOUGH OF THIS!” Sunny got off of Starflight and he sat up to see Hviture who had sent a wall charm between the fighting students so Tsunami and the Slytherin girls' spells bounced into the air. He looked between the eight kids with a furious expression. “Who fired the first spell?”

As Tsunami raised her hand, Glory said “I did” which Tsunami shook her head. “We did, but only because Fiereceteeth was going to shoot a spell at Starflight!”

Fiereceteeth tried to say that wasn’t true, but Hviture told them all to hush as he rubbed his head. “I only saw you three,” He pointed to Firecteeth and her friends. “And you three,” He said, pointing to Tsunami, Glory, and Clay. “Cast spells.” He looked at Starflight and Sunny. “Do you want to fess up to casting spells?”

“I didn’t, but I can’t let them take the blame while I get off-” “No. I was in front of them and they fell behind me.” Clay said, seeming to hope that sounded believable. “I didn’t hear them cast anything.”

But Starflight knew that wasn’t true. He thought he heard Sunny cast a spell. “In fact, Clay’s wand is still in his pocket.” He thought. Clay hadn’t taken his wand out at all. “Why didn’t he deny being accused of casting a spell?” But then he saw Sunny’s guilty look and realized what had happened.

Hvitur pointed to the castle doors. “Those who got hit, go to the hospital wing. Hopefully they are weak spells. Everyone except Starflight and Sunny, meet me after dinner for detention.” He then stood behind them as they all got up and began to trickle inside.

The eight students walked in silence until the staircases moved, denying Starflight and others passage as Fierecteeth taunted them as she and the others got on just in time, to which Hvitur hushed her for being rude as he as on the stairs. Once they were out of earshot however, Sunny immediately hugged Clay. “You should have told him I casted the trip jinx!” She said in her high pitched voice. “You didn’t deserve to get detention…” She whimpered as Starflight felt a pang of guilt strike his chest.

Clay’s face went from ashamed at being in trouble but upset at what Fireceteeth and her friends had said, to a joyful smile as he bent down to hug his friend and console her. “Hey, don’t worry about it. Think of it as pay back.” He said, standing back up and looking as if he could never be angry in his life.

“Pay back for what?” Sunny asked, still sad that Clay took the fall for her but also curious.

Clay then let out a nervous laugh as he rubbed the back of his head, the stairs finally coming back for them. “Because if I didn’t think about jumping in front of you and Starflight, I would have tried to run up and punch that big doofus.”

The four others joked about the incident as Clay wondered how they would cure Glory’s enlarged eye or his own broken nose and for once, Starflight wasn’t the one trying to answer the questions. He was too focused on the floor until a light bump to his shoulder pulled him out of the trance. The tall Gryffindor girl was looking curiously at him. “Hey, I know dueling is against the rules, but this was important.” She said, trying to cheer him up.

Starflight tried to smile like the others but couldn’t bring himself to. He felt like something was gnawing at his chest viciously. “Next time, I advise *not* hexing my sister on my behalf.” He muttered, just loud enough for the others to hear. “I mean…I don’t want you guys getting in trouble.”

Glory shrugged, putting her hands at her side. “Got it. Next time hex her on *our* behalf instead.” She said simply which got a laugh out of Glory.

“I’m being serious!” Starflight gripped, looking between the two. “It’s not worth getting in trouble over something stupid like that!”

He felt Clay’s hand rest on his shoulder as he gently nudged Tsunami aside. “Hey, teaching your jerk sister a lesson is worth it if it reminds her not to make fun of our friend.”

Starflight opened his mouth but then closed it when no words came to mind. He was used to being made fun of by his half sister, but not having someone else bite back at her on his behalf, much less four people. “Hogwarts…so far, it’s everything I’ve hoped for.” He thought with a weak smile as the five continued up the stairs, Clay, Sunny, and Starflight laughing at Tsunami and Glory’s bickering over which hex would be better to learn.
