Wings of fire x Hogwarts au 5

Been a good while since the school year started and Sunny has some time to reflect under a full moon.

Sunny loved Hogwarts more than anything. Well, more specifically she loved the friends she made at Hogwarts. Yeah she technically met Clay before going, but only because of Hogwarts did the two kids meet. She was having a great time every day the Hufflepuff was able to leave her common room and see them.

Clay had been the perfect center of their group. While he lacked knowledge of the wizarding world, he was the one they all relied on. When fights between Tsunami and Glory got out of hand, he was always the one to calm both of them down. He was the only one that could listen to Starflight’s rambling for long periods without showing signs of boredom just because it made the Ravenclaw happy, and he treated Sunny like the sister he always wanted. He was also the first to jump in and defend them if a spell was cast their way or if a potion went wrong.

Tsunami acted as the group's muscle. While she wasn’t as tall as Clay, she was still tall for her age and her spells packed a punch. Tsunami was also fairly good at school, more so than Sunny thought. She wanted to become an auror like her dad, even taking her potions class super seriously. Though she clashed with Glory a fair amount, which Sunny thought was sort of necessary given the havoc the two could cause if they were always in sync.

Glory broke any stereotype Sunny had about the Slytherin house. She was pretty kind, loyal to her friends, very intelligent and open minded, and even hated the dark arts. The only times Sunny was reminded of why she was placed in the house was when she told Tsunami not to go after someone who had just mocked Starflight, Sunny, or Clay, because she had a better idea. She was very much a schemer and struggled with not holding grudges. If she didn’t have Tsunami working with her, then she could probably get away with much more without ever being caught.

Starflight was the smartest person Sunny ever knew, and she knew people who worked in the ministry of magic! He was always one step ahead of the other students when it came to class work and he always studied in his free time. Despite the others teasing him about it, he was always willing to help them with their homework and studying which Sunny thought was cool of him.

While they were all in different houses, Sunny felt closer to them than anyone in her own house (Minus Clay). For the first time in her life, she felt close to kids her age. That was why her walk down the castle’s hallways were biting at her heart.

She felt the cold wind of the night bite at her as she prepared for another sleepless night. Sunny had been lucky that Clay didn’t question her visiting a friend last month. That was mostly why she was so happy that she didn’t share a dorm with her friends. None of them could get suspicious of her sneaking out at night.

Her mother had a large amount of money, only adding to it with her job as a member of the Wizengamot. What this meant was that she was able to turn her backyard into a massive walled off enclosure. Many thought the defenses were made to keep intruders out, but no one ever seemed to think it was to keep someone in

“I wish I could tell them…”

The Hufflepuff was never allowed to tell anyone about her affliction. Even as she floated a stick to the whomping willow’s knot in its exposed root, she still wished she was talking to Clay. She hoped he wouldn’t judge her for it, but she knew not to trust anyone with it. Even her own mother got worried when the full moon came, looking for signs of Sunny acting different before her transformation.

Sunny hated hearing about werewolves. Whenever the topic came up, the other students acted like they were monsters who didn’t act like them. They never seemed to think that one of the kids sitting next to them was one of those monsters. She wished she could prove them wrong, but Sunny also knew that the moment someone found out what she was, their parents would demand she be taken out of the school for their kids' safety. It didn’t matter how much protection Headmistress Jerboa II set up for her to ensure everyone would be safe (Well, everyone but Sunny).

The transformations were painful. When she was four, it wasn’t that bad. Her mother could restrain her with spells that soothed her body from the harsh transformation. But as she got older, so did her spell-resistant wolfish body. She would hide in the basement, but the stuff down there was destroyed during her trance. Sunny needed to run around. That was when the backyard was changed.

Every full moon, Sunny would head out just before the moon rose and her transformation would begin. She’d feel her mind shift to hungering human flesh. Without having access to it though, she’d resort to scratching and gnawing at herself. Her mother was desperate for a cure, but none had been found.

Now she was back in a small enclosure where her transformations would be more painful than they had been before. The girl reached the living room of the shack. It didn’t have any real way of escape, and the whomping willow was a good way to keep her wolfish self inside. Now she just had to wait.

The pain wasn’t the only reason she hated being a werewolf. She hated how tired she felt the next day. Her body seemed to hate sleep, not giving her a moment to rest. Worst of all, she’d have classes tomorrow that she would have to stay awake for.

But above all, Sunny hated being a werewolf because it denied her friendship. She knew werewolves were hated and treated like living dangers. If someone's parent found out their kids were friends with a werewolf, they’d not only force their kids to stop speaking with them, but tell everyone how much of a danger the werewolf was. “And I can’t lose them.” She thought with a small whimper.

As her body began to shift, Sunny tried to think of things that would make her feel more human. Any other time, she would just think of her mother. Sunny would imagine sitting at the dinner table or playing games with her only parent. She’d try to think of how important it was to keep this a secret so her mother wasn’t kicked out of the Wizengamot (Though her mother told her not to worry about that…but how could she not?). The thoughts didn’t always work, but they did enough.

Today however, she had better memories. She had ones much closer to her heart. Her friends. She thought of Clay, Tsunami, Glory, and Starflight. She thought of how she could end up sitting alone, studying alone, doing everything alone. She couldn’t let that happen.

She never realized how great it was to actually hang out with other kids! These past few weeks had been the greatest time of Sunny’s life! She wanted to make it last. She wanted to spend more time with them, and hopefully she could keep this going for a good while.

But she also knew that this time was short. She only had seven years at Hogwarts, and after that she knew they’d find out eventually. Inevitably, Sunny would be alone once again.

“But right now, they don’t know.” And that was what Sunny treasured most. Right now, her friends cared about her. They didn’t see her as a monster that could kill them at any point. Right now, they wouldn’t abandon her.

So Sunny curled up on the cold wooden floor of the shack. She let her thoughts of Clay and Starflight talking about the muggle world (The one time Starflight was asking Clay for an explanation), or Tsunami and Glory trying to see who could figure out the given spell faster. Any thought of them made her feel more human, despite her body howling and scratching at her waist. It still hurt, but at least she wasn’t totally taken over by her wolfish mind. “One full moon down…just a few more to go…” She thought sadly.

Sunny expected her friends to figure out she was a werewolf eventually. If she was a seer, she’d see that it would only take the end of their first year to discover it. If she was a better seer, she’d see that they would treat her the same as they always did. And if she was the greatest seer in the world, she’d see that in her third year, her four friends would break one of the biggest laws in the wizarding world just to make her transformations the most bearable they ever had been. When she was a werewolf, she could never interact with humans. But there was nothing wrong with sharing a shack with other animals.

But for now, Sunny was alone in the supposedly haunted shack. Alone to her own thoughts, and how Hogwarts was the greatest place in the world. For once in her life, she had friends.

Hope you enjoyed these five chapters. Like I said, I *might* make more chapters, but don’t expect it. These were the only ones I had planned.
