Chapter 1
"The Marauders, The Queens of Your Heart, and The Emerald Snakes are some of the trendiest bands of the year. They're all completely different, but somehow, they always seem to mention each other on tour and in interview. They shouldn't know each other. They shouldn't be connected. They're all such different genres, so it's not as if they're competing. So the question remains: How do these people know each other? I'm Music Theory, signing off."
The podcast ends, and the living room is momentarily silent. Every Sunday, the three groups meet up to listen to Music Theory's podcast, on account of most of the episodes being about one of the three bands. It's a way of bonding and staying close despite busy schedules, tours, and shows. James is sitting on a plush armchair, Regulus curled into his rib cage. Sirius and Remus are on the couch, Remus resting his head on Sirius' shoulder. Marlene and Dorcas are on the floor, along with Lily and Mary. Evan and Barty are cuddled up on the second armchair, and Pandora is perched on the ottoman.
Pandora speaks first, breaking the silence. "You know, it's quite interesting to hear what some people have to say about us. These theories are getting quite interesting, are they not? I think it would be so funny if we all did an interview together, don't you guys think so?"
"I think that's a brilliant idea. I'd be down for that. It'd be so chaotic." Evan says, immediately backing up his twin sister.
"I agree with my wonderful fiancé. It would be so funny." Barty chimes in, a glint of something in his eyes.
Everyone else chimes in, adding bits and pieces to how they would do that, what they could say, how they would do it.
Regulus watches, lost in thought for a moment. Honestly, if you had told his sixteen-year-old self this is how his life would've turned out, he would've laughed at you. He never would've thought he would've been able to form a rock band with his best friends, never would've thought he'd be able to transition, and he definitely never thought he would be able to get married to his brother's best friend and lifelong crush, James Potter.
But hey, here he was, with all of his dreams coming through. It's impressive how successful they've gotten so quicky.
The Marauders were the first to debut, a 70's inspired punk band with heavy drums, best known for their debut album, 'Golden and Crimson Lions'. James is the lead singer, with Remus on drums and Sirius on guitar. They quickly took off after one of their songs went viral, along with the album being beautifully written and executed.
The Emerald Snakes were next, debuting only a week later as a hard rock band, best known for their debut (and currently only) album, 'Emerald and Silver'. Evan plays the drums, Barty plays guitar, and Regulus sings and occasionally plays the bass.
The Queens of Your heart debuted three weeks later as a pop/ indie pop band, releasing two albums within a week of each other. The first one being a pop album full of feel good, confidence boosting songs called 'Valkyries'. The second album, only slightly less popular, was titled 'Platinum Tears'. It was an indie pop album and was much slower and sadder than their first album. Lily is the lead singer, with Mary on drums, Dorcas playing guitar, Marlene on the keyboard, and Pandora on the violin.
All three bands have skyrocketed to popularity, their albums landing in the top 10 for a good month so far.
Regulus couldn't be happier.
"Reg, baby, you alright?"
Regulus snaps back to the moment, where James is looking at him, eyes full of concern. God, he can't believe how lucky he's gotten.
"Yeah, just thinking."
James hums, and they turn to the room, which is now full blown chaos.
"Everyone shut up!" Marlene yells, standing on the coffee table.
To her credit, everyone quiets down pretty quickly.
"We've been discussing this for twenty minutes, but how the fuck is this going to happen if we don't have an interview scheduled? Did y'all think of that at all?"
Dorcas perks up a bit. "Actually, I think I have just the person to email. I met this girl named Hailey the other day. She was super cool, and we got to talking, yada yada, yak yak yak, long story short, she works for a music magazine and asked if I knew anyone who wanted to do an interview. I said no at first, but she gave me her email just in case."
Damn. How is it that Dorcas always knows someone, at all times, for everything?
"Yeah, if you could email her, we could totally pull this off," Sirius says, confidently flicking his long hair over a shoulder.
Dorcas types out an email and send it, and they wait for around an hour for her reply. But when it finally comes, they aren't dissapointed.
Hey, Dorcas.
So glad you decided to reach out. The people here at 'Music Theory Magazine' have been dying to get an interview like this forever! We'll schedule the interview for 3 in the afternoon on Friday, September 20. See you then!
Best wishes,
Hailey Polanco
