Help!
Without any protection Minerva crashed directly into the ground.
Poppy felt her stomach drop.
She ran bevor she really knew what she was doing. Towards the seemingly lifeless body.
While she ran across the field, the students erupted in cheers. Someone had caught the snitch.
But Poppy didn’t even look up.
In her mind she saw Minerva. The face of the girl, who smiled at her just an hour ago.
Maybe that wouldn’t happen ever again.
The thought froze her insides.
It was probably the air hitting her face, but she started to feel her eyes wetting.
The way felt like it took minutes. Poppy never felt so slow.
Finally she fell to her knees next tho the girl.
“Minerva, can you hear me?” She took the other girls face in hand, and took her pulse.
It was evident, but she didn’t get an answer.
“Aquamenti”, she filled her right hand with water and sprinkled some on Minerva’s forehead.
Minerva’s eyes fluttered. There was grass on her cheek and Poppy instantly tried brushing it away.
“Do you understand me” Poppy’s voice was shaking. She slapped her cheek, to wake her up faster.
“Who caught it?” Minerva asked in an almost whisper.
Poppy looked up in confusion.
“I guess…”
Green figures where parading of the field.
“Sl-Slytherin won.”
“Sh- AH” Minerva’s curse was interrupted by sudden pain. Her face was almost white and her eyes were half closed.
“Does talking hurt?” Poppy asked concerned.
Minerva nodded.
She seemed to be able to, without problem. So at least no direct spine injury.
“Alright, everything is going to be fine.” Poppy said more to herself than to Minerva.
Minerva nodded again. “I’ll get you to the hospital wing now.”
Poppy stood up.
How in the world is she going to get her up to the castle. She looked around. Nobody seemed to notice Minerva and Poppy’s emergency. There was no getting through the crowd of students cluttering the entrance to the castle.
Poppy panicked.
“Accio table!”, the table with the bottles still on top was flying towards her and came to a halt.
“Here drink that it’s gonna help with the pain.” Poppy gave her some of both to drink. Wouldn’t hurt. Also she din’t quit remember which was which.
Her hands were shaking.
“Alright. Try standing up!” She held Minerva’s arm, trying to get her to lay on the table.
But as soon as Minerva put pressure on her feet she hissed.
Shit, why didn’t the medication work.
Poppy tried to drag her to the table as fast as she could. Minerva screamed as Poppy lying her down on the table.
Poppy panicked even harder.
Why, why couldn’t she help. Why was Minerva lying there breathing so flat and fast.
How was she going to get her up to the hospital wing like that?
Poppy put Minerva’s feet up the table too.
A red figure landed next to her.
“Oh my god is she OK?” It was one of the beaters. A girl Poppy saw sometimes at the Gobstone club.
“I don’t know what to do. I can’t get her through the crowd. And the pain medication doesn’t work. I don’t know where Madam Melrose is.” Poppy hadn’t noticed when she started crying.
“Alright, Alright.” She calmed her down “Keep calm. Ok what can we do…” she briefly looked at the grass then back up directly into poppy’s eyes.
“Ok, I have an idea.”
“Just tell me what to to!” Poppy answered, eager to help in any way.
“We tie her down to the table, then we levitate it around the castle and fly her through the window of the hospital wing.”
“There are no stairs on that side. Can you fly and do the spell at the same time.” Poppy asked.
“Ok, you run up and open the windows! And set up what you need.”
Poppy ran towards the castle, past two slytherins, she turned and took one of their brooms.
Bevor the boy could say anything Poppy screamed from above: “You’ll get it back I promise”
And she flew above the students heads. Some pointed and laughed at the sight of her.
“Didn’t know ravenclaw played today too!”
Right through entrance and and directly towards the hospital wing.
She pushed open the door and threw the broom away.
“Madam!”
Madam Melrose looked up from Felix whom she was just looking in the open mouth.
“What in the world have you done?”
The old witches look left no doubt that she thought, Poppy had definitely done something wrong.
Poppy’s heart hurt a little bit at that question, but there was no time she explained quickly as she opened the window.
It wouldn’t be big enough.
“Engorgeo!” The bricks were swelling, the window was getting larger. It seemed to squish the other windows together.
Through the opening now big enough to let an elephant into the hospital wing, Poppy could see the bed flying.
In the winter air the table came to set in the row of beds. Poppy closed the window again.
Felix looked absolutely shook, teethless Mouth still open.
Madam Melrose and Poppy grabbed Minerva by the legs and shoulders.
She screamed again.
Poppy had never heard such an awful noise. The pain of someone who would never voluntarily vocalize pain. Or any other strong feeling. But the pain. Poppy could feel it. Made her loose her awareness.
“Didn’t you give her the stuff against pain?”
“I did it didn’t work.”
“Well then give her some more!”
It still didn’t work.
The girl Layer on the covers. Her pony tale had lost its shape and her hair was all over the sheets. She closed her wet eyes to stop another scream.
“I think it’s her hips and her ribs. She can’t breathe right and walk. Her left leg seems to be longer. I think it’s a broken hip and a few broken ribs, Madam”
“I know that” Madam Melrose answered, like she had reason to be offended.
“Undress her. I’ll be back in a second.”
The girl still stood there. Until now she didn’t quite know what to do with her hands. Now she rushed to pull the curtains around the bed.
Poppy needed a second to grasp the command.
Even though it was an emergency and they were both girls it felt wrong.
The girl started to take off Minerva’s robe. Poppy took her boots of. When she took of the left one Minerva made the drowned noise of suppressed agony.
She pulled down her trousers. Forcing herself to feel nothing. Because, what was there to feel?
Madam Melrose returned with a tray of different bottles and items. Minerva now only wore underwear and socks.
Poppy didn’t find it necessary to dispose of them.
“So girls! You” she pointed at Jenny “Make sure she takes three of these” she shook a glass of green pills. The girl got to work.“When she sleeps, You” Now she pointed at Poppy. Will put these around her hips. She threw light green bandages at Poppy, who caught them. That will put the hip back together.”
It took Minerva 12 green pills to finally drop unconscious.
Poppy lifted Minerva’s hips and wrapped the bandages around her hips and the place it connected to her left leg.
Madam Melrose rubbed a yellow cream on the almost naked girl.
When they finished, they took a step back. A sudden wave of sickness overcame Poppy and she covered Minerva with the blanket and put her clothes on the chair beside the bed.
“Miss Draper, you can leave now. I don’t want to know what would have happened if you hadn’t been there.”
Poppy felt sick and ashamed. What would have happened?
“Your friend is in good hands.”
Madam Melrose said while looking at Poppy accusingly.
Jenny left, looking over her shoulder twice.
“So. You will stay here and change her bandages every two hours. When she wakes up give her this.” She pointed at a black bottle.
“Merlin knows where that girls got her residence against pain medication from.”
She looked down at the unconscious body, almost curious.
“Still want to be a healer?” And with those words Madam Melrose left as if she had won against Poppy.
Poppy just stayed there inside the curtains.
And felt terribly sweaty, confused and guilty.
