Sandwitches

Now she was alone behind the curtains.

She sat down in the chair next to the bed and put her head in her hands, sighed and looked at her watch. Two hours. Poppy looked up again still squishing her cheeks in her hands, and thought about her bag that she had left on the field. Well, she couldnt leave now. She leaned back, so no studying . What a pitty! She smiled briefly. Then she remembered that professor Dumbledore would walk through the rows of the classroom on monday and hand out the tests, she wouldnt know the first thing about.

A panic formed in her gut. She felt haunted by the subject. It cept creeping up on her in her timetable, and terrorising her freetime. She felt like she spent most days desperately trying to understand the subject. She had grown to really hate it.

She looked at Minervas face, the only thing above the covers. Her nose was slightly hooked, her eyebrows were as dark as her hair that layed over the pillow.
Poppy thought shortly about her eyes and the way she had seen the older girl blink. The way she sometimes slowly closed her eyes and opened them again. Poppy had seen her doing it at dinner while she was in conversation. It must be a thing she did when she was tired. Poppy had never seen Minerva yawn. She figured, that she was to polite to do so and smiled to herself.

Minervas lips were a soft shade of rose. Poppy had to look away again and swallowed.

Minerva would lay there in bed next to where the young nurse sat, for a long while. Uncontious.
Poppy didn´t know how she should cope with the situation.
She loved looking at the prefect girl but she´d feel much better if she were awake. It came crashing back to her, that it had been all her fault.

This perfect girl was in pain, because she had failed to perform a momento-spell. The guilt was back and it didn´t leave her.

An hour later, Poppy stared out the window, which was back to normal now, and watched the beginning of a what was to become a storm. Grey clowds filled the sky and spread their powdery rain across she lands. It looked like rough fog. Like a pillow of discomfort wrapped the castle.

Minerva moved.

Poppy held her breath, but Minerva didnt wake up she just shuffled a bit. Minerva wasn´t uncontios anymore, now she was just sleeping.

"She´s so pretty!" Irma said looking through the curtain.

"WILL you be quiet!" Poppy hissed and got up. "You know these curtains are here for a reason!" She closed them behind her friend.

"But she totaly is, isn´t she!" Irma whispered "I wish my skin looked like that." she said pointing at Minervas face. Poppy felt wired, she felt like a thing deep within herself was suddenly shown openly. And it wasn´t as important as it felt anymore. She felt like everything that happened inside the curtains belonged to her and Minerva. Poppy liked thinking she shared an experience with the girl she admired from a far for so so long. She wanted to be like her.

"Why are you here?" Poppy said annoyed.

"I am here to bring you some things. I know. Am i great?" Poppy roled her eyes. And took back the bag she had left on the field and a wraped sandwich from lunch.

Poppy sat back down. Irma left and came back with a chair she put next to her best friends. They unpaked their sandwitches.

"So... do you take care of Felix too?" She asked trying to sound nonchalantly. "Yeah. Please, please be quiet! What you...like him?"

"Of corse, i like him. Gosh he looks like... like...." She suggestively gestured at her stomach indicating Felix figure. "good, ya know?"

Poppy laughed quietly.
"Do you want me to sell you?" She asked.
"Well if you ask!" She took a huge unsexy bite out of her beef sandwiches.
"I will see what i can do." Poppy winked and continued to stuff her sandwich. "Your sandwiches are the best!"
"Oh well, thank you." Irma said with a full mouth: "You could say that i AM a Sand-witch."
Poppy tried to look at her in disappointment, but then a smile got through. "Ha, you laughed!" Irma gave her an elbow.

"How long do you have to stay here?"
"Donno, probably until she´s fine again"

They looked at the sleeping girl.

"How long´s that gonna take?"
"Donno, Irms!"
"Anyway, I saw Jenny before lunch and she told me what happened. Thats such bullshit of the old Melrose, just leaving you there. She actively endangered the players." She backed off as she saw Poppys offended look, "I kow you tried your best Pops... I know that. But your not a nurse, yet. We should complain. I didn´t even see Madam Melrose on the way in. She is totaly using you. She screwed this up"

They sat chewing in silence for a while.
"I still fucked it up."
"Oh. shut up, Pomfrey!"

Poppy shushed her.
Irma continued whispering: "Dont you dare feel guilty for that!" She pointed at Minerva.
Silence again.

"Do you want to study?" Irma looked testing.

"Mmmmh... no."
They had finished their sandwiches and Poppy leaned back.

"Then im gonna leave now, cause" Irma got up and took her bag "I still got hope."
"See how that works out for you!" Poppy answered.

"See you soon," Irma smiled and looked down again on the sleeping girl "I hope."

Irma left und Poppy saw her looking at Felix, whos curtains were open, on the way out. He was sleeping too.
Probably in the process of growing back is teeth. Poppy shuddered at the thought of teeth growing back into ones mouth really fast. She shook the thought of.

She looked at her watch again. Shit, it had been two and a half hours now. She didn´t even get that right.

She took the bandages from the nightstand and pulled back the blanket.
The bandages hat turned to a rirty brownish redish colour. The colour of old blood. She cut them away and disposed of them. They were kind of sticky. Nothing a girl hasn´t seen often enough.

Although she tried not to stare, her gaze lingered for a second on Minervas belly. She didnt have that much of a waist, but her curves where so clean and pale, like she was frozen over. Like all that seperated Poppy from Minerva was a layer of ice that kept her in sleep. As she removed the bandages from her hip, Poppy saw some stretch marks. They looked like intrecate gaps in the ice. beautyfull, broad stripes of white.

Poppy was suddenly scared of her impulse to bend down and kiss the hurt body.
Probably she wanted to do that, like her mother did for her, when she fell as a kid.

She felt a pain in in her stomach, like hunger but from a different place. She couldn´t quite place it.
Poppy wraped the girls hip up again, very carefully and got back to her chair. Minerva still was in deep magical sleep.

In that moment Poppy was sure that there was something wrong with her. Something that would stay this way forever.
