Mischief(Night) Managed

Mischief(Night) Managed

“I can’t wait for Halloween tomorrow!” James exclaimed at breakfast.

“Ugh. Save your excitement for later in the day please.” Remus grumbled as he took a bite of his toast.

“What do we ever even do on Halloween anyways mate?” Sirius asked.

“Yeah we’re at school it’s not like we could go Trick Or Treating.” Peter replied glumly.

“True but we could get candy from somewhere or treats from the kitchen like last year!” James exclaimed cheerfully.

“Plus the feast!” Remus added excitedly at least something got his attention this early.

“Bloody second years.” a gryffindor from farther down the table muttered. The boys didn’t notice and continued talking about Halloween.

“-And that’s when….” James continued when all of a sudden everyone started laughing.

“What?” James asked. And then he looked at his friends and he started laughing too.

“Oh My God!” Sirius shouted. “My Hair!!” Someone had managed to change the hair colors of the Marauders. Peter had hot pink hair, James had a Slytherin Green, Sirius Silver with green streaks, and Remus bright green.

“Bloody Slytherin’s! We’ll get them back…” James started before looking over at the Slytherin table. “Ha! Look at Snape!”

Snape’s hair was Gryffindor red and Mulciber’s was Gold. Avery had hot pink. Regulus had Gold with red streaks and Narcissa’s hair was a weird blue-green. “Ha! they got Reggie and Cissy!” Sirius called At this point everyone in the Great Hall had noticed and there was laughter all around. A couple of other students had their hair dyed in seemingly random patterns.

“Who could’ve done this?” James asked quietly.

“I dunno.” Remus replied before going back to eating.

“It's almost as good as our pranks.” Peter said

“No it isn’t.” Sirius said, insulted.

Lily, Mary, and Marlene who were sitting next to the Marauders were laughing hysterically. “Is that so?” Marlene asked.

“It was you lot!” James said

“Shhhh Potter.” Lily said. Then she cast a muffling spell so no one around them could hear what they were saying.

“Bloody hell it was you!” Sirius said then.

“Why?” Peter asked.

“You lot aren’t the only ones that can prank people.” Mary said then.

“She’s got a point.” Remus said.

“It’s a muggle tradition.” Lilly said.

“What is? Dying people’s hair?” James asked.

The three girls burst into giggles. “No.” Lily said. “Mischief Night.”

“Or Mizzy Night depending on where you’re from.” Mary added.

“What’s that?” Sirius asked “It sounds awesome.” At the word mischief all four boys had a gleam in their eye.

“Basically you pull pranks on people on the night before Halloween.” Marlene said.”

“Shut it McKinnon you get up in the Wizard World like me.” James said playfully

“Yeah and I knew what it was first!” Marlene retorted.

James stuck his tongue out at her and she stuck hers out back.

“Real mature.” Mary said, causing Remus to snort.

“So today’s the day of pranks?” Sirius asked.

“Yup!” Marlene replied.

“Mischief Night!” James said “It sounds like we found our holiday then.” The other boys murmured in agreement and quickly started planning the day.

In potions Remus managed to coat all the cauldrons in the room with an ingredient that would cause the potion they were making to explode with a little help from Lily.

In Transfiguration Sirius used spells to alter other students' attempts at transfiguration, making their subjects weird colors, strange shapes, and sometimes even completely wrong objects. Mary helped him a bit and distracted the professor for most of class.

In Herbology Peter came up with a plan that the Marauders and the girls would put on headphones and move away before using levitation spells to lift up Mandrakes causing them to shriek.

In Defense Against the Dark Arts James and Marlene worked together to release pixies which were kept in the room while also casting a couple of spells to add to the chaos of it.

Then at dinner the entire group worked together to cause it to start raining in the Great Hall while they locked the doors to leave. Lily and Marlene had cast spells to protect the group from the rain, but everyone else got soaked. Then Mary and Sirius cast spells that brought the suits of armor and other statues to life and made them chase students.

Later that night the boys snuck out under the invisibility cloak and wrote Merry Mischief Night -The Marauders.” on a wall with a spell that made it nearly impossible to get off.

”Today was the best day ever!” Sirius exclaimed as they went into their room for bed.

”Yeah this needs to be a new Marauders Tradition.”

”Yeah!” Peter exclaimed enthusiastically.

”Sounds fun.” Remus shrugged. They all fell asleep.

“What the!” James yelled early the next morning waking everyone up.

”Bloody hell James it’s too early.” Remus grumbled.

”Yeah I’m trying to sleep here.” Sirius added. The boys then noticed that their beds were in the air and the entire room was covered with string from the walls making it impossible to maneuver.

“The girls.” James said. The Marauders couldn’t help but laugh. “They got the last laugh this year but next year is ours Lads!” James yelled.

”Yeah! We’ll show em’ not to mess with the Marauders!” Sirius called back.
