Understanding Badger
She's drunk and done crying; her ceiling is way too dark. Her head spirals, mixed with the darkness like a tornado wind that engulfed her at Triwizard. She bumped her head, but at least when she opened her eyes, there was Draco at her side, holding her hand. Not anymore...
She remembers her father's words from before: "Give you some time to think," so she's thinking.
Maybe, just maybe, this is all an illusion...
What if Draco never meant everything he said this whole time she's been with him? She always understood Draco all her life, coming from the same background. She understands him so much that she knew right away if she looked into his eyes what he was thinking; she feels him.
But these days it's hard to look into those eyes, that face – very hard to read. It all confuses her; he is either looking away, looking down, or not looking at her at all. That's very cunning of him, Slytherin...
She doesn't blame him though; she also understands Draco has been dragged into this betrothal when he was a kid without his consent. Maybe now he realizes he doesn't want to do it anymore; he doesn't want anything to do with her.
The fact is he's grown up now. He has a voice now to choose his future wife. Right... she's nodding. There are plenty of single pure-blood and beautiful ladies, but it's not Hermione Avery.
No, no... maybe he had enough of her. Yeah, maybe that's why... She understands.
She understands maybe she's a bit too much for him. Eighteen years together, they almost feel like a married couple. She understands if he wanted a divorce now. Yes, yes... that's it! He wanted a divorce! She understands... she's nodding her head.
But this word in her mind that keeps saying over and over again, she's trying to push it away, but it's too strong, too painful. So she's holding her chest: "He's falling in love with someone else."
Understanding is very hard to do when you're lost in confusion, but she realizes the cold truth:
Â
The one who chose Avery was his father, not him.
