baking together
Thirteen was a funny age, Severus was into books now, more than playing on the swings. He enjoyed his schoolwork, and didn’t like hanging out with the other kids.
Yet, when Lily Evans his best friend asked him to come make cookies with her, he got excited. Which wasn’t an emotion he felt often.
Severus wouldn’t say he had a crush on Lily, not like his mother always accused. He was sure he cared about her, truly more than anyone else. But he really just enjoyed having her as a friend the most.
She was very important to him, so important that even though he had no clue how to bake a cookie, he was quickly making his way through the neighborhood to go do it with her anyways.
“Sevvy!” The little redheaded girl shouted, running down her yard to hug him, “I missed you.” She stated, making the boy snort.
“We just got home from Hogwarts yesterday Lils, you haven’t had time to miss me yet,” his lips curled into a small smile when she huffed, “I missed you as well though,” he reassured her, watching as her pout turned into a smile.
“Alright well good, now let’s go make cookies! I’m so excited!” Lily grabbed his hand, practically dragging him up the yard and into her kitchen.
“We got the easy ones because we are cheaters, so this is all you do,” Lily showed him how to use the scoop to scoop up the cookie dough, “so you take a scoop of dough, and then you roll it like this into a ball, and then you just put it on the pan. We’re gonna make a whole bunch and then we can write on them with these icing pens my mum got!”
Severus nodded, it seemed simple enough. Together they worked scooping and rolling out the cookie dough, giggling and sneaking bites of dough here and there. Severus wasn’t sure you were supposed to eat this stuff uncooked, but it tasted good nonetheless.
“Okay that’s the last one! Let’s let them bake now,” Lily put them in the oven, setting all the heat and timer settings. They sat at the table while they awaited the timer to ring.

When the timer finally rang, Severus thought Lily was going to hit the ceiling from jumping so quickly out of her chair. They ran over to the oven taking the cookies out.
Once they’d let them dry for the appropriate amount of time, They brought one of the trays over to the table.
“Okay, here’s all the icing colors mum bought. Let’s draw.” Lily said happily, grabbing her first cookie and color she wanted.
Severus drew a potions vial on one, and a cauldron on another, making Lily roll her eyes. “You like potions too much, this is supposed to be fun Severus!”
“Well to me potions are fun,” Severus winked, taking the clean cookie lily had in her hand and taking a bite, “oh you’re gonna pay for that one Sev!” Lily hollered, throwing a piece of one of the cookies at Severus.
Before too long they were at war, cookie pieces and icing getting thrown around. Both kids were giggling together until Mrs. Evans walked in.
“Now you two, we’re supposed to eat the cookies not play with them. Do you understand?” The woman held back her own smile at the two, who nodded.
“Yes Mrs. Evans, we’re sorry,” Severus said with an innocent face.
“Sorry mummy, I love you!” Lily responded as well, smiling.
“I love you too honey, it’s quite alright dears just clean up this mess.” They both nodded in agreement, watching her walk out.
As soon as she was out of the room Lily giggled, throwing another piece of cookie at Severus, who simply shook his head in response, “Sh, you’ll get in trouble.” He said with a small smirk,‘throwing another piece back at her.
Let’s just say it wasn’t the first time that day Mrs. Evans had to yell at her daughter and her daughter's friend. Troublemakers.
