New Year; New Hope.

Sirius was having a hard time, trying not to look forward to returning to London. He loved being home with the Potters' and he cherished every moment, but when he laid awake at night, and he whispered those words to the ceiling that he'd never quite been able to say out loud, he missed Remus with each molecule in his body.

He'd told Remus that he'd told James and that James now knew about the thing between them. He hadn't told him everything yet. He hadn't told him how he got his scars, or why all this had been so hard for him in the first place. But he would soon. When he got home, he would let it all spill.

He spoke to Remus every day on the phone. By now, Monty and Effie also knew about the Moon Boy, as they called him. It hadn't been Sirius's intention to tell them; not yet, at least, but it just sort of happened. One minute they were talking about Moon Boy and in his next sentence Sirius accidentally mentioned how much he loved him.

They'd just chuckled and asked more questions about Remus.

A mum and a dad, the way they should be. So, Sirius told them.

"Well, we met each other on my first day in London and I stepped into the record shop where he works..."

The days spent in Bristol were spent baking with Effie, playing chess against Monty, and building snowmen with James when snow had fallen. At night, Sirius would read a book while a record played softly on his player. In the mornings, he would flip cereal at James's face. Every now and then he would pick up the newspaper. Every second, he was counting down.

At last, the 29 arrived and James and Sirius boarded their train to London. This time, it was Sirius's time to snore. Time was easier to process asleep, and he woke up when James shook him lightly. "Almost at the station, Pads."

When they finally reached their building, Sirius handed James his duffle bag without a word, looked to both sides of the road, and then walked with quick steps over to Remus's building.

"Use protection!" James laughingly called after him.

Sirius flipped him off over his shoulder, heart beating rapidly in his chest. He reached Remus's building and quickly pressed the buzzer by Remus's and Lily's names.

Only seconds later, the all too familiar voice sounded. "Hello?"

Sirius pressed the buzzer so that his voice would sound for Remus, too. "It's me," he said. "Let me in?"

The door clicked immediately, and Sirius reached for the handle with the speed of lightning. He'd never before run so fast up so many flights of stairs in his whole life, but his heart was chanting, Moony, Moony, Moony, Moony, with each beat.

He finally skidded to a halt in front of Remus's and Lily's front door. He was panting and a bit of sweat had formed on his upper lip. He took a few deep breaths and lifted his hand to knock, but the door swung open before he got the chance to connect his fist with the wooden surface.

Remus was standing there, a wide grin on his face. His scar stretched with the motion and his eyes crinkled. He was beautiful. Sirius was so in love with him.

"Hey," Remus breathed. His fingers twitched on the door handle. He didn't have his cane with him.

"Hi," Sirius exhaled. "Is Lily home?"

"She's at Mary's," Remus said quickly.

Sirius nodded slowly. His blood was soaring in his ears. "How's your leg?"

"I just applied some cream. Can't feel any pain."

"Good." In two strides, Sirius walked to him, cupped Remus's face in his hands, and kissed him.

Remus's response was immediate. One of his hands went to Sirius's waist and the other nestled into his hair.

Sirius's sighed against his lips, melting against Remus. His lips were soft and warm. They tasted faintly of tea and chocolate. Remus loved chocolate, Sirius had come to learn.

Remus backed up slightly, their lips still attached. Sirius followed him blindly. Remus kicked the door shut behind them just as his tongue grazed Sirius's bottom lip.

Sirius parted his lips happily. The kiss turned deeper; desperate until the point they had to pull away to breathe. Remus's forehead rested against Sirius's, and for a few moments, they just breathed each other in.

Sirius had had his eyes closed, but now he opened them, only to find them sinking into the warmth of Remus's eyes. Sirius slowly moved his hands to the small of Remus's back. A small smile spread on Remus's face.

"Hi," he whispered and nuzzled his nose into Sirius's cheek.

"Hello there," Sirius laughed. His stomach felt warm and fuzzy.

"That was amazing," Remus whispered and placed a fleeting kiss on Sirius's cheek before returning his position with his forehead against Sirius's.

"Yeah," Sirius breathed. "Sorry it took me so long."

"Love, that wasn't long at all. I met you in the middle of October, if my math ain't completely off the rails, that was only two and a half months ago?"

And in just that time I managed to fall head over heels in love with you, Sirius thought.

"Yeah, okay, guess you have a point," Sirius mumbled. He moved his hands up Remus's chest over his jumper; the urge to touch and explore filled him. He fisted the fabric above Remus's chest. Remus's eyes had followed the trail of Sirius's hands, but now he looked at Sirius's eyes again.

Brown met grey.

Maybe grey wasn't a weird favourite colour, after all, if Sirius's eyes in any way made Remus melt, in the way Remus's eyes did to Sirius.

"Can we kiss again?" Remus asked lowly. "I really like kissing you."

Sirius didn't even reply, just surged forward until their lips met once again. The tender touch of lips against lips made the hairs on Sirius's arms stand up, and when Remus's hand fisted lightly in the back of his hair, a low groan fell from his lips.

"Moony," he sighed between kisses. "Moony, I—"

"What is it, love?" Remus murmured, kissing along Sirius's jaw now.

Sirius's mind was turning foggy with pleasure. "I—I want to touch you. Can I touch you?"

Remus raised his head, a cocky grin on his lips. "You are already touching me. Can you be a bit more specific?"

"You know what I mean," Sirius said, flustered.

"I'm not quite sure, tell me," Remus said, voice low. "Tell me what you wanna do to me, posh boy."

Sirius swallowed. The brown in Remus's eyes had become increasingly less as his pupils dilated. "Can I give you a hand job?" he rushed.

"See?" Remus brushed a hair strand away from Sirius's forehead. "Wasn't so hard, was it now?"

"I would say it's pretty hard."

Remus snorted and pulled Sirius closer. "Fuck's sake, you're so—"

"Serious?" Sirius offered, wriggling his eyebrows.

"Awful," Remus said, cackling. "You're absolutely awful."

"Yeah, but you like me," Sirius said lowly.

Remus's laughing smile morphed into a softer one, and he dipped down to kiss Sirius tenderly. "Yeah, I do. A lot. Wanna move this to the bedroom?"

Sirius nodded and placed a kiss on the corner of Remus's mouth where his scar ended.

Sirius let Remus pull him along towards his bedroom, and once in there, he let Remus guide him onto the bed slowly; kisses being exchanged between them. Remus hovered above Sirius. They were both fully dressed, yet Sirius had never felt more vulnerable in his life.

He'd also never felt more safe.

"This is your first time with a guy, right?" Remus asked softly. He was propped up on his elbows above Sirius.

Sirius let out a short, dry laugh. "What do you think, Moony?"

"Alright, alright," Remus chuckled. "Just—I wanted to be completely sure."

"I know," Sirius murmured, mesmerised by Remus's eyes. "Thank you, but just so you know, it's not like I'm a blushing virgin."

"I know," Remus grinned. "But this is still new to you."

"I know."

"I wanna make sure you're alright."

"I know. Thank you." Sirius wet his lips. "It's not like I don't have any idea how to do it. I do have a cock myself, you know."

"Thank God, the long hair could've fooled me."

"Cheeky bugger," Sirius chuckled.

"At your service," Remus said.

"Just... if I do something you don't like, tell me, please. I want to make you feel good."

"Okay," Remus agreed easily and dipped down, so their lips hovered above each other. "I'll talk you through it."

Sirius lifted his hands to Remus's back as Remus brought their lips together in a new kiss. He tugged impatiently on the fabric of Remus's jumper. Remus laughed against his lips. Between kisses and bursts of laughter, they managed to get Remus's jumper off and threw it across the room.

Sirius took in Remus's bare upper body shamelessly.

"Like what you see?" Remus asked, grinning.

"Yes," Sirius said without missing a beat. "Fucking hell, yes."

Remus laughed and kissed him again.

Slowly, they helped each other undress. It took time; they often kissed for long moments at a time, but at last, they were both in nothing but their pants, and Sirius was the one hovering above Remus now.

Remus was smiling softly up at Sirius, his fingers tracing patterns over Sirius's hipbone. Sirius returned the smile and bowed down to begin kissing over Remus's collarbones.

A small sigh fell from Remus's lips and his back arched off the bed as Sirius's right hand trailed a slow pattern down over his chest.

Sirius's heart was galloping.

"Is this okay?" he whispered, craning his neck to look at Remus. His fingers were playing with the waistband of Remus's pants.

Remus eyes were hooded and lust-blown. His fingers went to Sirius's hair, scratching over his scalp. "Yeah," he breathed. "It's more than okay."

Sirius gave a small nod before pushing Remus's pants down to his thighs. Laughter bubbled from their lips again as Remus spent many tries trying to kick them off. Finally, he managed to; leaving him completely naked.

Sirius kissed him again. Their lips moulded together and Sirius reached down between them.

Remus gasped as Sirius took him in his hand. Remus's eyelids fluttered and a small moan escaped him as Sirius's thumbed his slit.

"This good?" Sirius asked.

"Yes, so good," Remus panted. "You can—a bit faster, yes, just like that, love. And—and twist you—fuck yes!" Remus tugged on Sirius's hair as he threw his head backwards into the pillows, Adam's apple on display. Sirius bowed down to kiss along it as his hand continued to move.

His movements grew surer the more Remus responded. Remus's legs twitched on the bed, and small sighs and moans fell from his mouth. He wasn't a loud lover; more reserved than Sirius had expected, but it each small sound was like a gift to Sirius's ears.

"I—I'm close," Remus gasped as Sirius kissed along his jaw sloppily. "I'm gonna—"

"Alright," Sirius mumbled, pressing his forehead against Remus's temple.

Remus reached his high only moments later. His back arched off the bed, he let out a strangled, low moan, and his hold on Sirius's hair tightened. Sirius didn't mind in the slightest.

Sirius wiped his hand in the fabric of his pants, a soft smile on his lips as he regarded Remus post-orgasm. His eyes were half closed and his right hand was resting on his stomach.

Sirius ran his hand through Remus's tousled curls. Remus's lips quirked up, and he opened his eyes fully.

"That was great."

Sirius chuckled. "Yeah. It was."

"Can I take care of you, now?" Remus asked and propped himself up on his elbows.

"Yes, please," Sirius breathed.

Remus reached to cup Sirius's neck and connected them to the lips.

It wasn't long before Sirius, too, was out of his pants, beneath Remus's body. They kissed; hands explored shamelessly. Sweat broke out on their skin, and Remus left a trail of bruises on Sirius's neck as he finally took him in his hand.

Never before had Sirius felt such an electrocuting touch. He could feel it in every inch of his body; in the pit of his stomach, a tight knot was curling together.

He was loud. Far louder than Remus had been, and the things Remus whispered in his ears only made him more vocal.

When Remus let go of him, just as he was on the brink of verging over, a needy sound escaped his throat and Remus chuckled but said nothing. Instead, he started kissing down Sirius's chest. Lower. Lower. When Sirius realised what was about to happen, anticipation filled his chest.

Remus reached his destination and wrapped his lips around Sirius. Sirius moaned, hands tangled in the sheets. He had to stop his hips from moving up into Remus's mouth.

Remus popped off.

"Why?" Sirius complained. "I was just about to—"

"If you wanna fuck my mouth, posh boy," Remus said lowly, "then fuck my fucking mouth."

"Oh—I—"

Remus took Sirius in his mouth again, jaw completely slack. Sirius did nothing at first, mesmerised by the sight of Remus Lupin between his legs. Remus looked up at him through his eyelashes. He quirked one perfect eyebrow and tapped Sirius's hip.

With a shaky sigh, Sirius reached down to tangle his fingers in Remus's hair, and from there, it was pure bliss.

*

They fell asleep after, tangled together, Sirius’s head resting on top of Remus’s chest. When he woke up, he found Remus already looking at him; adoration evident in his eyes.

“Hi,” Sirius whispered.

“Hey,” Remus chuckled and carded his fingers through Sirius’s hair. “Slept well?”

Sirius hummed. “Did I dream that you sucked my cock, or was that real?”

A startled laugh escaped Remus, and he clapped his hand over his mouth to stifle the sound.

Sirius chuckled along with him and trailed a pattern with his finger over Remus’s peck. “We’re naked, so I take it that it was real?

“Yeah,” Remus breathed, laughter still evident in his voice. “It was.”

“It was great,” Sirius declared. “Best thing I’ve ever experienced!”

“Never been blown before?” Remus arched an eyebrow.

“Well, by a few girls, but with them, I always had to focus on getting it up in the first place, so I didn’t really spare the process that much thought.”

Remus laughed lowly. “Well, you have me now.”

Sirius snuggled closer to him, throwing a leg over Remus’s thighs, only to immediately stiffen. “Your thigh! I’m so sorry—is this—oh, God, is it hurting?” He quickly tried to move his leg away, but Remus grasped it by the bend of his knee.

“It’s more than fine,” he whispered. “The pain relief is still working.”

Sirius let out a relieved exhale. “Thank God. I thought I’d hurt you there for a second.”

“Nah, you would never,” Remus said. “You’re too nice.”

“I’m nice?” Sirius propped himself up on his elbow to look at Remus’s face.

“The nicest guy I’ve ever met,” Remus whispered. “My favourite person; my favourite star.”

Sirius’s heart sped up, and he surged in to kiss Remus. There was no tongue. It was just lips against lips, but it was still perfect. They pulled apart.

“You can’t just say stuff like that,” Sirius huffed. “I might, I don’t know, fall for you or something.”

“Like you didn’t already.”

“Like you didn’t already,” Sirius mocked. “So sure of yourself, aren’t you?”

“Well, you do look at me like I shit rainbows, so why shouldn’t I?”

“You did not just say that.”

“I did, and I did it proudly.”

“You’re awful.”

“Yeah, but you fell for me.”

“Like you didn’t fall for me, too,” Sirius huffed with a smile.

“I did. Instantly,” Remus said. “I have no shame about that. The minute I saw you in the shop, I just knew that whoever that man was, he’d visit my dreams for an eternity to come. Even if you hadn’t become my maybe friend. You’re not the kind of person someone can just forget.”

Sirius smiled; it held a sad tint.

“What is it, love?” Remus asked, cupping Sirius’s face in his hands.

“Just…” Sirius sighed and looked down. “Someone did forget me. Someone did not care that I was no longer in their lives. Someone chose to forget me. And, well, I have it easier with it now. Much easier but it still sucks.”

“Yeah, it does,” Remus agreed. “I don’t understand how they could do that, honestly, but that’s the difference between me and them, I suppose.”

“Oh, there are plenty more, trust me,” Sirius laughed. “You’re a way better person than them and I would choose this over them any time. I know that now. For sure. Remus… eh, do you have a middle name?”

Remus nodded. “John.”

“Okay.” Sirius nodded. “Mine’s Orion. Anyway, that’s beside the point. So, Remus John Lupin, I can now officially announce to you, that I’m deeply gay.”

Remus managed to hold his laughter in for less than a second, but then it tumbled out until the point he was wheezing. Sirius joined him and for a few minutes, they were both unable to speak at all.

At last, Remus managed to say, “Well, I could’ve told you that!” It only resulted in more laughter and to stop them, Sirius kissed Remus, long and deep. Desire crawled along his spine and he fitted himself completely on top of Remus.

“I wanna do what you did to me earlier,” he whispered against Remus’s lips. “That okay with you?”

“Fuck yes,” Remus murmured, hands already snaking into Sirius's hair.

*

Much later, when they’d both got dressed and had a cigarette on the balcony, they were in the living room on the couch. A Beatles record was playing on the record player.

It was Remus who brought it up, at last.

“So, what did you tell James, love, if I may ask?”

So Sirius told him everything he told James, but also more. He told him how he’d got onto his family’s property and screamed at the house. Remus didn’t laugh at him. Perhaps, in some way, he understood. As much as he now could.

“I saw my old bedroom,” Sirius told him. “It hasn’t changed one bit in almost ten years. It doesn’t look like they ever stepped into it, even.”

He told Remus about how he got his scars. At that, a few tears slid from Remus’s eyes and he held Sirius closer.

Sirius told him how he went to the Potters’, blood dripping down his back, and a lie ready on his tongue, because there was no way he would ever voice the truth out loud ever again.

“I got the tattoo TOUJOURS PUR as a reminder to myself, kind of. Regret it now, a bit. Maybe I could change it into something else.”

Remus hummed and kissed his temple.

When he finished explaining, at last, the music had stopped.

*

Remus had possibly never been so happy in his life as he was on the 29 and 30 December 1985. Lily had come home at some point on the 29 to find them asleep on the couch. She’d woken them up by loudly announcing that she was going to stay with James for the night.

He and Sirius cooked together that night. Music was playing in the background and at one point, Remus took Sirius by the hand and pulled him in for a dance there in his small kitchen. Sirius laughed, then, arms slung around Remus’s shoulders.

They slept together in Remus’s bed and when he woke up, it was to Sirius slung over his chest, and to no feeling in his leg. That day, they stayed in bed, unless Remus needed to go to the bathroom with the help of his crutches.

They laughed a lot. Remus told Sirius childhood stories and Sirius shared stories about him, James, and Peter at St. Paul’s. At one point, Sirius took Remus’s copy of How to Kill a Mockingbird off his shelf and started to read out loud. Later, near the evening, Remus found his journals of poems and showed a few selected ones to Sirius. Sirius read each one with a furrow of his eyebrows, his tongue poking the inside of his cheek. After, he would praise Remus’s word use and the way he got his message across. Remus kissed him, then. They did that a lot throughout the whole day; kissing. Remus was addicted to the taste of Sirius’s lips.

On the 31 however, it was time for them to part for a few hours. Sirius hadn’t even got a chance to be home yet, and he made it very clear that he didn’t want to. Remus didn’t want him to, either.

“I’ll see you in a few hours,” Remus chuckled as Sirius stalled by the door. Remus was resting against his cane; they’d only just woken up, and he hadn’t got around to applying the cream yet. He would probably wait to do it later to save it. He’d almost run out. He’d need to visit Andy’s shop soon.

“But—”

“And James misses you!” Lily called from inside the flat. “Just because you got some cock doesn’t mean you can abandon him!”

“Am not!” Sirius protested. Remus hid a laugh behind his hand. “I swear!”

Lily’s cackle could be heard from the kitchen.

“Actually, before you go, I wanted to ask what we do tonight?” Remus asked. “Do you want to just keep this between us for now, or…”

That night, everyone would meet up at James’s and Sirius’s flat to get plastered into the new year. Sirius had to return to the flat to get everything ready.

“Fuck that,” Sirius said. “I like you, you like me, let’s just show them we like each other. I’m so sick of hiding, Moony.”

The corner of Remus’s mouth tugged up. “Alright then. I suppose I’ll see you later, then?” He moved to close the door, but Sirius put his foot in the way.

“One last kiss?”

Remus heard Lily make fake gagging noises.

Once Sirius had left, Remus moved to the couch. He sat down with a pained sigh. “I love him, Lils,” he declared loudly.

“Big surprise there,” Lily said, and immediately left the kitchen to join him on the couch. She had an odd expression on her face now that it was just the two of them.

Remus furrowed his eyebrows. “Lils, are you alright?”

“Just…” Lily pursed her lips. “I’m, er, well, I didn’t really notice at first, but then I started getting suspicious, and I counted—”

“Lily, what is it?” Remus asked. “Is something wrong?”

“No, no!” Lily rushed. “I don’t think so? It’s just that I’m, well, I’m late.”

“What?” Remus sat upright instantly, wincing as the movement went to his leg.

“Just by a few days,” Lily hurried to say. “Which could mean nothing, right?”

“It could,” Remus said, nodding. “Do you want me to go with you tomorrow to buy pregnancy tests?”

Lily’s chin wobbled as she nodded. “Yes, please.”

“Come here,” Remus murmured and opened his arms. Immediately, she went to him, sinking into his side. He ran his fingers through her hair. “It’s gonna be alright no matter what. You have options.”

Lily nodded against his chest but didn’t say anything.

*

Sirius’s and James’s flat smelled like pizza when Remus and Lily arrived. The minute Sirius opened the door, Remus’s heart skipped a beat. Sirius had washed his hair, put on all his rings, a cross hung from his ear, he was wearing his leather jacket, a white T-shirt, and black, ripped jeans.

Remus really did love him in black.

“Hello!” James showed up behind Sirius at the door. “Thank you for handing back my roommate, Remus, meant a lot. Lily, come look at the pizzas I made!”

Sirius stepped aside to let Lily slip into the flat while saying weakly, “I helped.”

“I’m sure you did,” Remus said fondly. “What did you do, put on the toppings?”

Remus had learned the night they made dinner together, that cooking wasn’t Sirius’s strongest skill.

“I’ll let you know I also rolled out the dough,” Sirius huffed out with a laugh.

“Nice job, posh boy.”

A delicate blush spread over Sirius’s cheeks. “Whatever. Come in. We’ve got beers, vodka, and the like. We also have soda and water if you wanna be able to live tomorrow.”

“How considerate.”

Remus followed Sirius into the flat. Lily and James were in the kitchen. James had somehow managed to get tomato sauce on his nose, and Lily was in the midst of wiping it away. She was grinning. Just then, the intercom sounded.

Quickly, the flat filled with their friends. Peter had brought a bottle of wine and Mary had brought some extra records. After they’d eaten, Remus quickly fell into conversation with Marlene as Sirius talked with Mary. Every now and then, they would lift their gazes at the same time, and their eyes would meet.

“Remus, are you listening to me?”

“Huh?” Remus moved his gaze to Marlene. “Sorry, what did you say?”

“Doesn’t matter,” Marlene tsked. “You were too busy looking at your non-boyfriend boy—”

“He’s actually my boyfriend, now,” Remus interrupted and sipped his wine.

“I—What?” Marlene sputtered.

“Well, I think so, at least,” Remus said. “Considering he’s spent the last two nights in my bed.”

“Lupin, you dog!” Marlene cackled and hit him lightly in the shoulder.

Remus cackled lowly. “Eh, thanks?”

“Any time. Now, I’ll go talk with my girlfriend. You go see Lover Boy. He’s looking at you.” She inclined her head to their right and true to her word, Sirius’s eyes were fixated on Remus.

Remus lifted his hand in an awkward, small wave.

A smile tugged at Sirius’s lips, and he moved over to Remus.

“Jesus, you both look whipped,” Marlene mumbled as she moved away.

“No way, you just waved at me when were only a few feet apart,” Sirius said as he reached Remus.

“Sorry?” Remus said. It seemed that now he and Sirius were an item, keeping his composure near him was much more difficult.

“Don’t be,” Sirius laughed. He reached for Remus’s hands and intertwined their fingers.

“Are you drunk?” Remus asked.

“I’ve only had two beers,” Sirius said. “Why are you asking?”

Remus shrugged, smiling. “Last time you held my hand, you were drunk.”

“Oh. Yeah.” Sirius rolled on the balls of his feet. “I told Pete, by the way. Right after dinner. He was more than fine with it. I’ve actually never seen him look so deep in thought before.”

Remus chuckled. “I told Marlene. Bet she’s telling Dorcas right about now.”

In the background, Lily changed the music to something by ABBA.

Sirius raised an eyebrow. “Wanna dance?”

“Not ballroom dancing, I assume?”

“Never, Moony. Never.”

“Alright then, you lead.”

*

Many hours and drinks later, they were all intoxicated—except for Lily—and moved up the stairs. The pain was slowly returning to Remus’s leg, so he and Sirius were a tad slower than the rest. Sirius didn’t seem to mind.

“Sirius, just go up,” Remus demanded once they were halfway. “You’ll risk missing the fireworks.”

Sirius scoffed. “We have twenty minutes, Moony. Relax, okay? Take your time.” Sirius had his arm around Remus’s waist to support him. Remus’s hand was on the railing. That all-so-familiar frustration about his situation returned to him.

“I hate taking my time,” Remus hissed as they now put another floor behind them. Only one more. “It makes me feel like such a liability.”

“Remus John Lupin,” Sirius said, stern, “you’re so far from a liability as anyone can get. Bloody hell, you’ve people falling in love with you from all directions. People adore—Why did you stop?”

Remus was standing completely still, his mind having temporarily stopped functioning properly.

You’ve people falling in love with you from all directions.

“Who’s in love with me?” he asked slowly.

“What are you—Oh.” Sirius seemed to realise his slip of words just then because a blush spread on his face. “For fuck’s sake! I didn’t want it to slip out like that.”

“For what to slip out, exactly?” Remus asked, teasing.

“You know what,” Sirius grumbled.

“It’s okay, you know,” Remus mused. “I’m in love with you too.”

All the muscles in Sirius’s face went slack but then his expression morphed into the most beautiful smile Remus had ever been witness to. “Really?”

Remus nodded. “Of course, I am, posh boy. You make it very hard not to.”

Sirius moved in to kiss Remus. Nice and soft. “I’m so thankful for you, you know,” he whispered as he pulled back. “You’re my favourite person. Is it crazy to know I love you so early on?”

“In that case, we’re both crazy,” Remus mused. “But I think that’s okay when it feels like this.”

Sirius kissed him again.

They made it to the roof just in time. James and Sirius hadn’t bought any fireworks at Lily’s request. She hated being close to them when they went off. Remus and Mary weren't big fans either.

Remus and Sirius stood a bit off to the side from the others, Remus leaning against the brick railing that surrounded the roof. He should’ve brought his cane up with him. Sirius stood next to him; their shoulders pressed together.

“Only two minutes now,” Sirius said, eyes on the sky.

Right now, there were no fireworks in the sky. The stars were visible, though only a few. The brightest one reflected clearly in Sirius’s irises.

He was breathtakingly beautiful.

“Am I gonna get a midnight kiss?” Remus asked.

“Perhaps,” Sirius said. “Who knows, maybe I’ll want to look at the sky more than I’ll wanna kiss you.”

“You’re an awful liar, sweetheart.”

Sirius’s breath hitched. “That’s a new one.”

“Yeah, I suppose,” Remus said lowly.

Chanting began to be heard in the streets around them.

Ten.

“Shit, that was a quick two minutes,” Sirius said.

Nine.

“Yeah,” Remus agreed.

Eight.

“Do you think there’s a god?”

Seven.

“No, I don’t.”

Six.

“Okay.” Sirius looked thoughtful.

Five.

Remus reached to cup his cheek and turn his gaze to Remus. “I think there’s life and that’s that. We control it ourselves, and we have to do what we think is right on our own.”

Four.

“Yeah, me too.” Sirius’s gaze fell to Remus’s lips.

Three.

“I really bloody love you, posh boy,” Remus murmured and leaned in slightly. He brushed a strand of hair away from Sirius’s face.

Two.

“I love you too.”

One.

Their lips connected.

Happy New Year!
