Meetings that start in the dark
Marlene McKinnon was tired. OWLs were right around the corner and the whole castle was in a frenzy. She needed to get almost all O's on her tests for her mom to approve. She didn't really need to pass her tests to be a professional Quidditch player but okay.
Her schedule was tight with all the revising, Hogsmede dates with Sirius, and finding time to spend with her friends or by herself.
Today, she found herself in a little nook behind a tapestry in one of the less crowded hallways that Sirius brings her to often.
She was working on a drawing of James and his broom(a very late birthday gift) when the tapestry opened up and a girl came in.
“Oh! I'm so sorry I didn't expect anyone to be in here!” It was Dorcas Meadows. A slytherin girl in her year.
“Oh um, it's okay.” She said, laughing under her breath, she didn't think anyone would come in here either. “You can stay if you want, I don't mind.”
“Oh wow, thank you for your generosity.” She said sarcastically. “What’re you working on?” She asked.
“Oh, erm it's just a drawing for James,” Dorcas looked up at her, frowning. “er Potter.” When she came in here she didn't expect to have to talk to anyone.
“Oh yea he's the one Quidditch dude. You're on the Quidditch team aren't you?” She wondered out loud, “Marlene McKinnon right?” She asked.
Marlene nodded, focusing back on her art.
“Oh, and you're Sirius Black's girlfriend right?” Marlene nodded again. “He's a right arse isn't he? My friend Regulus is his brother, he talks about him a lot.” She explained.
“He’s not that bad once you get to know him…Just a little loud.” She looked up again, “Whats your friend saying about him? I'm sure he'd like to know.” She finished.
“Well I'm not gonna tell you what he said!” She exclaimed. “But I think they have a complicated relationship.”
Marlene hummed and nodded, “Me and my brothers are like that too.” She sighed.
Dorcas looked up from her rings, “You have siblings? What's that like? I've always wanted siblings.” She sighed wistfully, “The closest I have is Pandora.”
“It's not all it's cracked up to be,” She answered. “Pandora?” She questioned.
“Oh Pandora's a ravenclaw fourth year. She's one of the Rosier’s.”
She thought about the Rosiers's, her mum told her about them once. A part of the sacred twenty eight.
“Are all your friends younger than you?” She wondered.
“Yep, mostly” She shook her head, laughing a bit, “Pandora and Evan, they're twins, are only a few months younger than me but they didn't make the cut for our year.” She smiled. “Barty; the minister's son, is just a bit younger than them. And then Regulus obviously.” She looked up to Marlene again, “Okay, enough about me and my friends. What about you? Who are your friends?”
Marlene thought for a second, she could talk about Mary and Lily. Or the boys.
“Well,” She started “My roommates Mary and Lily are my best friends ever. And if I'm being honest; don't tell anyone I said this, the sexual tension is there.” She whispered.
Dorcas started giggling. It was a beautiful sound. “Good to know you're okay with that, anyone else? Your boyfriend?” She questioned.
“Oh yea Sirius!” She smiled, “James and Mary got us together, but, he's been distant lately. He's probably with his friends or revising.” She laughed shakily. “Me, James, and Peter have been friends since birth basically! We grew up together I would do anything for those two.” She said excitedly, “And then there's Remus, he's awesome and ready good when it comes to homework and all that.” She finished.
Dorcas was staring at her, smiling. “That's really great, well speaking of homework and revising, I should get back to that.” She said.
“Oh yea!” She exclaimed. “J was supposed to meet Lily in the library! See you around!”
Marlene crawled out of the opening and ran to the library not looking back.
