Tear-stained cheek Pomfry x Mcgonagall
Pomfry had known Minerva since they had first attended Hogwarts so many years ago. Pomfry had known her for so long that she thought she understood her wife quite well. She knew how she liked her tea and knew what her favorite quidditch team was.
Pomfry knew that Minerva had a soft spot for Sirius Black and Pomfry knew that Minerva knew about her soft spot for Remus Lupin. The two would often spend long nights discussing ways they could help the two boys.
Both boys had been dealt a difficult set of cards in the game of life and both women wanted nothing more than to take away some of their burdens and help them live happier lives. Maybe in another universe they could have been successful.
This was not a universe where they were successful.
Pomfry remembers the day Sirius Black died. She had been in the infirmary at Hogwarts making potions when Minerva stormed in hair a mess and tears streaming down her cheeks.
“Minerva? Love, what's wrong, what happened?” Pomfry asked quickly, walking over to her crying wife.
Minerva pulled Pomfry into a tight hug silently crying into her chest. Pomfry held her close, rubbing soothing circles on her back.
“Tell me what’s wrong” Pomfry asks softly.
“He’s dead Sirius is dead” Minerva choked out putting all her weight on Pomfrey.
Pomfrey felt tears well up in her own eyes as she processed the news.
Sirius Black was dead.
He had been like a son to Minerva and he was dead.
“He never got to be free” Minerva cried out loud sobs echoing across the room.
Pomfrey could do nothing but comfort her grieving wife.
*********
Pomfrey already had tears running down her cheeks as she walked through lines and lines of dead bodies. All children forced to fight in a war. All dead.
Pomfrey was looking for her wife. She wanted to make sure that her wife was alive. She hadn’t even meant to find him. As she was walking she found Remus Lupin dead on the floor. She lets out a noise she didn’t even know she could make. A scream full of heartbreak and sadness. She had taken care of Remus; he was like the son she never had.
He was dead now.
Pomfrey held his body as she cried. She wanted nothing more than to be able to fix this to save him. She couldn’t heal this, she couldn’t heal death.
Minerva found her holding onto Remus cheeks stained with her tears. She slowly sat next to her and pulled her into a tight hug. Pomfrey cried into her wifes chest, body shaking.
“Why did he have to die? He was going to be a father” Pomfrey sobbed.
Minerva gently rubbed Pomfrey’s back without saying anything.
The two women sat there for a moment mourning over the lives that were lost during both wars.
War was not fair. Life was not fair.
Both women left the battle of Hogwarts feeling hollow and having tear stained cheeks.
