Countdown Peter x Sybill

Sybill had been told her entire life that she was special. That she had a gift. Sybill hated her gift and hated being special. She wanted to be normal. She didn’t want her gift. She wished whichever god or deity that gave her this “gift” would take it back. She hated it.

Sybill hated the way people treated her because of her gift. No one ever wanted to be friends with Sybill; most people wanted something out of her. She had to learn at a very young age that most people wanted to use her and her gift for their own gain. She learned how to read people and learn to trust no one. Sybill trusted no one except for Peter.

Peter never wanted anything from her. He appreciated her for her. He was sweet and kind and defended her when others tried to use and abuse her. Sybill loved Peter and was so happy he was in her life. Sybill and Peter had been dating for about a year now and she had never been happier. Even though he was in a different house as her he made sure to spend as much time with Sybill as he could. He always warned her about upcoming pranks him and his friends were about to pull.

Sybill was currently laying her head on Peter's lap in the Gryffindor common room silently watching as Peter argued with Sirius about something. (she wasn’t really listening) She was smiling up at Peter when suddenly she felt her body freeze up.

No

Not now

Not today

Not here

She was having a vision. She knew this because her body was stiff and her mind felt foggy. She knew she was speaking but she wasn't sure what she was saying. Sybill had taught herself to ignore what she said not wanting to know the pain the future held. Still she could remember one thing about this prophecy. She and Peter only had five years left together. Sybill shot up eyes wide and quickly filled with tears.

Peter and Sybill only had five years left together. Sybill didn’t want to lose Peter and didn’t want Peter to be without her. Sybill turned around to face Peter only to see him standing looking worried at her. She hugged him and cried into his shoulder mourning the love she was going to lose but hadn’t even lost yet. The room was silent while she cried.

Sybill was different after that day. She became cold and distant. She hoped that if she pushed Peter away then it wouldn’t hurt as much when their time together ran out. Peter seemed to notice and was trying so hard to figure out what was wrong. He had refused to tell her what she had said that day. As much as she loved Peter she wished he would tell her wished he would let her know what terrible fate she had told the love of her life. Peter refused and Sybill could see in his eyes that her prophecy wasn’t a good one.

Peter still tried to get her to open back up again. Sybill couldn’t not when she knew their time was limited. Peter for what it’s worth was not giving up on her. Everyday he would send her snacks and sweet notes telling her that he loved her and is here for her no matter what. He would remind her that no matter what her prophecy had said it didn’t change the fact that he loved and cared for her more than anything.

Eventually Sybill started opening back up and allowed herself to love Peter. She apologized for icing him out and promised that she was not mad, just worried for the future. Peter did his best to reassure her and promise that they would be ok.

If only he knew.

The countdown had begun.

They were now doomed by the narrative.

Puppets in someone else's game.

Sybill tried to be happy, tried staying in the moment and being happy with what she has now and not sad about what she was going to lose in the future. As time passed Sybill became more and more paranoid. As the countdown got closer and closer to zero Sybill began attaching herself to Peter’s hip. Scared that if she didn’t make the most of the time left she was going to be left feeling like she should have done more.

As the countdown got closer to zero Sybill could see Peter slowly pulling away. He became more scared and paranoid. The war outside was getting worse and Sybill could see it shape and change Peter. The once kind loving and loyal boyfriend became scared and short tempered. Sybill watched as she slowly lost Peter to the world. To the prophecy.

Sybill hated it, hated her gift and hated anyone who told her it was a blessing. This was not a blessing, this was a curse. Sybill thinks she hates herself more. Hated herself for getting close to someone. Hated that she let a stupid prophecy ruin the only good thing she had in life.

The countdown was at one year. She had one year left with Peter. She was so scared she didn’t want to lose him. She decided she wasn’t going to let some prophecy control her life. She still had one year and she will make the most of that year. It was hard to talk to Peter. The war was at a point where going out to casually hang out was almost impossible. Sybill and Peter had very different schedules and rarely had time to see eachother anymore. Today they had finally managed to see each other.

They sat across from each other at a local muggle coffee shop. Peter was fidgeting nervously with the hem of his shirt looking around the shop as though he was waiting for someone to jump out at him. Sybill watched him carefully as the tea they ordered went cold.

“I've missed you” Sybill spoke slowly, looking down at her cup of tea.

“Yeah me too listen Sybill I’m sorry I have been distant this war it’s been really hard on me” Peter spoke his voice shaking.

Sybill looked up and smiled at him. She reached out and grabbed his hand. Peter looked at her a bit shocked.

“It’s going to be ok Peter you have me you will always have me” Sybil said softly.

Peter smiled back at her and Sybill felt her heart swell.

The countdown was at zero.

This was the last time Sybill ever saw Peter alive.
