BERNADETTE ‘BEANIE’ PILGRAM
History
Bernadette Pilgram is a half-blood girl in Harry’s year. She is the daughter of a Curse breaker at Gringotts (her father, whom is also on Bill Weasley’s team) and a mother of non-magical heritage whom works at the Ministry in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office.
Bernadette in many ways is a normal girl if not for one fact: She is obsessed with Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans. She loves the candies. Whether she got a normal flavor, an unusual or a horrible one, she loved the surprise that is in every box of beans. She saves up part of her allowance to buy them all the time.
When she came to Hogwarts, she started to put secret stashes of Bertie Botts all over the castle in all sorts of places, under protective and preservative charms. In bookcases, in hidden nooks and crannies, in hidden passageways, in chests. No day goes by when one of Hogwarts residents finds the Beans in unusual places. It has gotten her the nickname ‘Beanie’ by her peers.
Beanie has been talked about her Bertie Bott obsession and her stash several times but she says: ‘You’ll never find them all.’ With a silly grin. She can be persuaded to do about anything for a handful of beans. She even started a Bertie Bott bean trade business, trading Beans for favors and merch. Fred and George especially are inspired to trade items for Beans so that they can get Beanie on their side. Beanie is one whom always is able to get them what they need after all.
For all her eccentricities she is a sweet, bubbly, cheerful and perfectly kind and friendly. Ready to help and give you the clothes of her back to help you. It just happens she has a really prominent quirk.
Appearance
Beanie is a biracial Afro-British girl with tanned skin and amber eyes. She has a wide mouth which makes her smiles wide and bright. She has frizzy black neck-length hair. She also seems to have a gap in her front teeth.
Her Hogwarts uniform has extra pouches sewn into it to hold more Beans and she wears a beanie hat (she did it just for the pun).
Powers and Abilities
Beanie is a decent Witch in her own right, not super-brilliant but making sure to get E’s (Exceed Expectations) on her school work. The only things she struggles with are History (everyone does), and Astronomy. Her best subjects are Potions and Charms.
She would join Harry’s Dueling club after he upped the recruitment drive due to rising dark forces and she would soon learn a lot of good spells and would become an adept duelist and combatant.
She seems to be very resourceful and well connected as in exchange for a handful of Beans she was able to provide them with hard to find resources whom no one knows where she gets them…Or cares to ask.
She is also very good at stashing her Beans in otherwise impossible places. As soon as Harry was finished in the Chamber of Secrets and took care of the Basislisk, Beanie has already put several stashes there. How she got in without Parseltongue is anyone’s guess.
She is able to haggle and would make a good salesperson as she does good business with the Weasley things, providing them with rare ingredients in exchange for some rare Bean flavors.
Trivia
- She is determined to find every possible Bertie Bott Bean flavor in existence. She has a list of flavors she discovered which is as long as the seven Harry Potter books put together.
- She one day hopes to work for the candy company that makes the Bertie Botts to elevate them to the next height, though Fred and George would also like to hire her as a procurer if their joke shop takes off.
- Aside Bertie Botts, she likes candy in general. If not for Berties, she also loves Cauldron Cakes, Pumpkin Pasties and Chocolate Frogs, and has smaller stashes of those around the school too though not as frequent. As a kid, her parents often had her take her medicine by putting them in Cauldron Cakes, Pumpkin Pasties and Chocolate Frogs.
- She is named the second weirdest girl in the school, always beaten each month by Luna Lovegood in the Hogwarts school paper’s polls. She seems barely aware of this since it takes away from her time spent on her Beans.
- She has a pet Calico cat named Toe-Beans. She seems to really go in with the bean puns.
- I haven’t mentioned Patronus of the heroes, since for Harry, Hermione and Luna they are the same as canon (stag, otter and rabbit respectively). For Beanie her Patronus is a Puffskein, which are magical creatures known to be extreme omnivores.
- I based her whole character around the fact that in the Harry Potter video games you find Bertie Botts in the weirdest places.
- The only things she won't do for Beans is doing something that gets someone hurt, or perform sexual acts for them. Now, she were to get together with a cute boy or girl whom gives her a good times and they gift her beans occassionally that is a different story.
