Lavender Brown
LAVENDER BROWN
History
For a long time there were misconceptions about lycanthropy. Those infected with it tend to change into a wolf once a month during the full moon and lose themselves. When not transformed they are mostly like any other people. Then there are those like Grayback, whom willingly turns others into werewolves and use them into pawns to strike back against Wizardkind.
However, there are ways to subvert the wolf side. Have the person drink potions so they keep their human mind or are knocked out during their transformation. And there are tribes whom have learned how to meld with their wolf side, create a balance, a harmony.
However knowledge of these type of wolves have been largely unknown in Britain. Despite efforts of Newt Scamander and Dumbledore able to arrange more rights, there is still too much prejudice to get rid of it completely. They would rather tax for potions then having werewolves find out the means to control their wolf half. If they even know about it and just assume werewolves at standard are feral beasts even in human form.
Even those whom aren’t prejudiced tend to be weary of werewolves due to the lack of knowledge on some aspects. For Lavender Brown it came as a harsh truth. She started out a normal witch girl. She appears as the stereotypical gossip girl and airhead. Popular and pretty. Not an alpha bitch, perfectly kind, but underestimated.
Grayback and his pack were on the move and made victims. Lavender was one of them. And part of her died that day and gone was the peppy ditzy gossip girl. A broken girl took her place. It was as clear as the scars on her face she now bore, they could not be hidden.
The Brown family didn’t know what to do. Wolfsbane is hard to brew and is documented so there would be attention put towards her daughter; Unwanted attention. However, a savior came in someone whom suffered the same fate long ago.
Remus Lupin was a man whom felt cursed due to his status as a werewolf. He was a decent guy but people defined him for the one day spent as a beast instead of the other days as a man. And there were those whom still wanted to make the life of those like him a hell in the government.
Remus was not good at potions or wealthy so getting Wolfsbane was hard. Luckily Harry was in a good care with Lily’s draconic relatives and due to the lack of upkeep up the Statute and guaranteed safety measures, Lupin could be a part of Harry’s life. And due to being important to Harry, the dragon relatives were accepting of Lupin as they recognized a fellow non-human bring a victim of prejudice. And they taught Lupin about an alternate means to lighten his curse, but putting them in contact with good people.
Lupin had learned through spiritual means from these contacts how to bridge the gap between him and the inner wolf. It was a difficult thing to do, but eventually Remus managed it. He was not a mere werewolf, he was a Lycan. And he was in control of the transformation.
Remus made it his job to help others in his position. However in Britain it got hard due to the prejudice within the Ministry and a majority of the Werewolves aligned with Grayback whom shouldn’t get his hand on that kind of knowledge. But Remus was able to help Lavender.
When Lavender returned to school the next summer in her fourth year, like Remus she wasn’t a werewolf but a Lycan and she was in control. She couldn’t go back to whom she was before. So the world would know a whole different Lavender Brown. She was still beautiful in a different way, but she was also a bit beastly.
Appearance
This version of Lavender is Afro-British like her original actress was before they transitioned into a Caucasian look for the sixth movie onwards. She does have a few traits from the book version, in that her hair is long and curlier and she wears more visible makeup.
After being bitten she as claw marks on her face and her shoulder has scars from the bite. She still manages to be a pretty girl, though her hair is less curly and her makeup is minimal. She also seemed to have gained a bit more muscle and looks less dainty.
As a Lycan, unlike a Werewolf she can transform at will. She tends to shift into a half-human form in which she has thick brown fur, green eyes, long claws, digitrade legs and a thick furred tail.
She can also go full wolf which makes her appear as a larger than normal wolf, but still with the brown fur and green eyes.
Powers and abilities
Before Lavender was just an ok student. She didn’t excel in any class but certainly wasn’t failing them. She did however excel at Glamor Charms, Color Charms and other Charms that could help in beautification and fashion.
After becoming infected with Lycanthropy she has started to take her studies more seriously. She did still excel at Glamor charms but uses them for other application than just looking fashionable, and proper use them in terms of stealth and misdirection.
Her former knowledge on fashionable clothing is turned into learning how to excel at creating practical but still good looking clothes with appropriate protection charms. In fact she may have developed several improved versions of the Shield Hats and Cloaks that Fred and George would go on to sell at their shop.
She took part in Harry’s dueling club and DA meetings so she would soon gain enough skill with dueling and defensive spells to make a worthy combatant in her own right.
As a Lycan, she is leagues above a Werewolf. A werewolf only has enhancements when they transform, otherwise they are a normal human. But with Lycans, the line is blurred.
Even when fully human her strength, endurance, speed, agility and senses are increased. They increase even more when she enters half-wolf or full wolf mode and as a true Lycan her spell resistance is only below that of a dragon.
Her instincts shine through in her human form but become stronger when she becomes more wolf, but definitely has more restraint then a Werewolf as she recognizes her loved ones.
She can turn others into Lycans but she can control the infectious properties of her claws, teeth and saliva. She regains her intelligence in both half-wolf and full wolf forms and able to even talk though in more broken English the more she is transformed.
The Lycan transformation involves spiritual training and meditation, a more ancient variant of Occlumency which she uses to keep the harmony between herself and her wolf half. Even when she no longer needs it to harmonize, she does it because it helps clear her mind and sharpen her focus.
She is empowered by the moon. She can now transform at will like an Animagus, her strength is at its lowest with a New Moon, and the strongest at a Full Moon. A blue moon somehow empowers her even more and a Blood Moon makes her…frisky. Due to Luna’s lunar magic, she can also give Lavender a boost when needed as well.
Trivia
- She calls Remus ‘Uncle Remus’ due to having mentored her.
- Her Patronus is a wolf, and it is Remus’ full wolf form.
- She used to think of chocolate as her fav food. After becoming a Lycan she likes rare steak. Unlike canines chocolate is not more harmful to her than any other human but she doesn’t seem to like sweets as much.
- Having gained wolf-like instincts she starts to see her friends as a ‘pack’ and instinctively uses several terms. She calls Harry the ‘Alpha’ of the Dueling club and DA. When she enters a polyamorous relationship (Lycans also have a different way of relationships in general) she calls the others in the relationship her ‘mates’. She is also quite dominant in the relationship and the others refer to her as ‘their alpha woman’.
- She is bisexual and she has marked both Ronald Weasley and her best friend turned girlfriend Parvati as mates. They have ‘mate marks’ to show that they’re hers though neither have become Lycans. Ron because he chooses to (and his decision is repsected) and Parvati because she has different creature heritage.
