History
Young Hermione Granger was always ridiculously smart for her age. She loves books and reading, was good at retaining the information she read and always aced her tests. However being too smart caused other kids to be jealous and her to be isolated and friendless for a large part of her life. She didn’t know how to connect to her less bookish classmates either and could come off as a know-it-all and bossy without meaning to.
When she was eight a new student arrived in her middle school, a young Harry Potter. He previously studied abroad in Sweden and Hungary (due to his adopted parents’ heritage) and now had returned to Britian to connect with that part of his heritage. Harry was also quite studious and intelligent and could connect with Hermione like no other students can.
Aside keeping up with Hermione he was also more socially aware and able to help Hermione deal with some of her issues in expressing herself, so she would stop coming off as innocently insensitive, and give others a chance to answer questions. Hermione was glad to finally have friends, as well as someone whom could help her with her issues. Well, most of them.
Hermione had a few physical ones. The hair on her body started to grow rapidly and so were her nails, she had to take care of it daily. She wore contacts and braces because her eyes and her teeth started to look weird. And her ears started to get point so she uses her bushy hair to cover them. Not to mention weird things happen to her when she was emotional.
One day some bullies tried to harass her and a invisible shockwave knocked them down and out. In a panic she ran. Harry was able to catch up with her. Hermione cried and Harry should not get along with a freak like her. Harry revealed she is not a freak, she is magical as he demonstrated by making a flower bloom with a wave of his hand. He was a wizard. Hermione opened up on her other bodily issues. Harry showed a partial transformation, some draconic traits saying nothing is wrong.
Harry’s parents would meet with Hermione’s parents William and Helen Granger. She revealed Hermione was not only a witch, but had creature heritage. At that point William and Helen reveal a truth of their own. William was not Hermione’s biological dad. Helen got pregnant form a one night stand, got disowned by her family, and then met William. They took both her and Hermione in. So whatever traits Hermione may have may come from her bio-parent.
William does assure though, magic or not, biological daughter or not, creature or not, he always loved Hermione as his own. When the shock wear off Hermione said that William was her father in every way it counted.
Now she stopped pushing back these changes, she developed cat-like traits. And from what Harry’s foster parents could tell, Hermione is of Cat-Sith heritage, Cat-Sith being cat people.
Hermione could now properly be prepared a few years earlier before she would get her Hogwarts letter, and she would have at least one new friend at the school. It was also a safehaven for those of creature heritage like her. She with Harry would remain a near-inseparable friend group. So no one was surprised when she and Harry would eventually start dating. And while Luna would be added to that polycule later on, their bond still remains as strong as ever.
Appearance
She resembles her canon self in human form with brown bushy hair, and big front teeth. She would grow out of them and puberty would be incredibly kind to her as a result.
She has an in between form, which is her most common form in which she has claws, a brown furry tails, fangs, her ears become brown and catlike, and yellow slit eyes.
Her full Cat-Sith form is that of a were brown furry werecat-like creature, her bushy hair becoming a wild mane. It is not as large or strong as a werewolf but still larger than her other forms
Powers and abilities
Hermione still keeps her intelligence. She is well-read and has a near-eidetic memory for everything she reads. She is very studious and is able to pick up on theory of spells rather quickly. She is also very good at following instructions when learning spells or brewing potions.
Unlike most students she is a jack of all trades and is able to understand and perform any magic well though not being all that specialized. She has more overall knowledge. But due to her great memory, hard work, and skill it still leaves her with a lot to work with.
She is the best researcher among Harry’s friend group and not only masters spells rather quickly, she has invented a few spells herself. The only spells she hasn’t mastered the fastest were anti-dark magic spells as those are Harry’s specialty.
As a Cat-Sith she is stronger, faster and especially more agile and nimble then a normal human being. She has nightvision, great sense of hearing and smell and can be really stealthy when needed. She can withstand falling from great heights and land on her feet no problem. She has claws and fangs which, while they can’t break through rock or metal are still quite strong and don’t break easily.
Cat-siths like her are sensitive to soul magics. She is also attuned to spiritual energies and can deal rather well with ghosts and spectral beings and at full power her cat-sith magic can exorcise. Purifying a Horcrux is a possibility for her but it takes a lot of training and understanding and needed help from others to perform the rituals to return the Founders’ artifacts back to normal. The first time it nearly killed her but the next few times became easier but exhausted her.
Due to her nature she also is able to communicate and sense the emotions of cats. She may be one of the students Mrs. Norris actually likes.
After her Animagus training she is able to fully turn into a small brown house cat as well, with help from training by McGonagall.
Trivia
- While her sweet intake is limited due to her parents being dentists, due to her cat-like attributes she can’t perceive sweet tastes as well. She does seem fond of savory snacks, like the Singing Salty Spuds crisps sold at Honeyduke’s. Otherwise she really enjoys seafood, more often then not in indulging in Fish and Chips during meals, and when the Triwizard tournament was ongoing and some French and Bulgarian dishes were served, she gravitated towards the bouillabaisse (fish soup).
- Harry gave her a live-in trunk for her birthday with a vanishing cabinet so she can meet her parents outside of school hours. Those are normally expensive. It made Hermione real happy to not have to miss her parents so much. Once Sirius was exonerated she was also given a set of Two-Way Mirrors to use to contact her parents.
- Instead of S.P.E.W. she calls her organizations to help House elves the House Elf Liberation Program. And luckily this time her friends are able to talk sense into her so she would not go overboard and does proper research.
- Don’t mention catnip around her. It involves an incident that was embarrassing for her but Luna and Harry said it had some wonderful results.
- When she drank Polyjuice with a cat hair, only thing it did was turn the fur of her cat parts in the same color as that of the cat. It was also much more easily resolved.
- She would refuse to give in to her cat instincts, but her consumption of fish, her purring, the catnip incident and the fact she tends to knock stuff of tables and chase red dots does not help her. Her boyfriend and girlfriend think it adorable though.
- Her cat Crookshanks are in a familiar bond. They could always understand each other, but Crookshanks got a boost in intelligence (even for a part Kneazle like him) and went from a large cat to a cat the size of a Great Dane.
- Creature AU!s had made Hermione in a catgirl before, mostly Nekomatas. But Hermione is British and settled on a mythological cat being from around that area, the Cat-Sith.
