History
In this universe things are so alike, but so different at the same time. Before we delve into this version of Harry, we have to look at his heritage.
It started with Florence Evans, a simple Non-Magical man whom was happy to run his flower shop. One day he was going for a walk when he found something fiery crashing into the ground. In the crater he found a woman, unconscious, hurt and naked. He took the lady home, clothed her nursed her back to health. The lady was quite for a few days, but once she was comfortable she said her name is Kalina.
Over the past few months Kalina and Florence grew closer. Kalina intended to stay for a short while before going on her next adventure. But she has grown to fall in love with Florence. One day some unsavory people tracked down Kalina and Florence was nearly caught in the crossfire. She turned into a human/dragon hybrid creature and chased them off.
Kalina reveals she is in reality a dragon, a Hungarian Horntail, her hybrid form being an in-between morph. The people going after her are high ranked poachers whom go after magical creatures like her. As she explained everything to Florence one of the poachers tries a cheap shot and Florence draws out a gun and shoots him. He reveals he was in the military before retiring.
Florence loved Kalina and wanted to remain by her side. Kalina would go to arrange things with her family. She would return to Florence, get herself an identity to use in the Non-Magical world and after a year she and Florence would get married.
Florence and Kalina would have two daughters, Petunia and Lily. Petunia didn’t seem to have inherited anything from her mother. Lily on the other hand, while having no dragon traits, did have magic, though some affinities with things like Fire shone through.
Petunia’s jealousy towards Lily would cause a rift with her family. While Kalina had never meant to have Petunia feel left out, she gave attention to Lily since she has magic and magic if not properly controlled could be disastrous. Kalina still loved her daughters both and while she meant well Kalina admits she may have made some mistakes.
Kalina would one day obtain Dragon’s Blight, a disease that is deadly for dragons. Petunia at least got to see her mother before she died, and they made up. But Petunia was still angry with Lily though they remained polite after their mother’s death. Petunia would marry Vernon Dursley shortly after as Lily married James Potter. Florence himself would later be killed by Death Eaters but he took out some of them with his shotgun before passing. This would be the final straw for Petunia whom would cut off Lily for good.
While Lily, aside a fire affinity did not gain any dragon traits, she was able to study a subset of Runes, draconic runes, which she used in a ritual to protect Harry. Which was needed with Voldemort on the loose. So when she sacrificed herself for Harry, the ritual activated. Harry survived, the draconic magic rebounding the killing curse and the draconic aura devouring the soul piece that tried to attach to Harry, absorbing the good but not the bad.
It did more as thanks to the ritual Harry’s dragon blood activated. It was small with a few black scales, reptilian eyes and small bursts of fire from his mouth. Now, for Harry to be safe, a protection needed to be created by putting him in the same house as where his blood lived. Petunia was one option, and maybe her love for her late sister could overcome her hatred for magic.
But Kalina had family. She had an older brother, Dusan, whom took care of the Hungarian Horntail dragon clan she belonged to. Kalina was always more adventurous and outgoing hence her desire to travel. But Dusan had remained home to take care of the fellow dragons. When approached with Little Harry, he could smell Kalinka’s blood. Dusan hadn’t seen his nieces Lily and Petunia in ages, as due to his responsibilities he had lost touch.
Dusan wanted to make up, to do good by his late sister, brother-in-law and niece. His own son Branko and daughter-in-law Anneli took in Harry to raise as his own alongside their own daughter Helle. They would assume human forms and mingle with them so Harry would learn about both sides of the heritage. He grew up loved and healthy.
He would receive his letter for Hogwarts and attend. By then his draconic powers have set in and had to learn to control them alongside his human magic. He has become famous in Wizarding Britian but it was something he despised since it was his mother whom was the hero of the story, all he did was survive. And he had to be weary as while Dumbledore has made waves, prejudices still existed and Hogwarts rivalry with the Slytherin Institute was legendary. Not to mention Voldemort was not quite gone.
And while a draconic Harry would be a tougher opponent if he learns how to control his powers, it only made Voldemort more desperate and determined to dabble with darker bits of magic to even the odds.
Appearance
In his human form, Harry looks like his canon self, though a bit taller and not as thin. He still has messy black hair and green eyes. He has glasses, but they are an aesthetic and are enchanted to help with his dragon’s sight. Instead of a scar, it seems a draconic lightning rune is tattooed on his forehead as a result of the night he lost his parents.
He can for now assume a humanoid hybrid form which has black scales, bronze colored claws on his hands and feet, digitrade legs, a long tail with spines, and the hair on his head replaced by a series of quills. His eyes are still green, but reptilian and has visible fangs. On his back are a pair of bat-like leathery wings.
He may be able to assume the form of a full Hungarian Horntail one day, but he’ll only be able to do that when reaching maturity. And when mastering the Animagus training which can help with hybrid’s transition between various forms.
Powers and abilities
This version of Harry has his canon abilities. Though since he grew up in a family that encouraged his academic efforts and not the Dursleys, he is more eager to learn and study, having inherited Lily’s inquisitiveness. He still shows his adeptness for defensive spells and spells that deal with dark magic or creatures.
He also still has a love and talent for Quidditch. He doesn’t need the broom to fly but he likes having it as it feels different.
His draconic powers give him other affinities. Most creatures that are not a XXXXX rating are afraid or respectful of him. Only the venom of a basilisk of other dragon species are effective on him, and most poisonous potions can at best make him sick, only few rare and difficult to brew potions being deadly even for a hybrid.
Of course he has a great affinity towards fire-themed magics.
Even in his human form he has greater strength speed and endurance than a normal person. His strength in human form is only slightly below Hagrids, as like him he can bend a shotgun and tie in in a knot. His strength is greater in his hybrid form and is able to carry loads bigger then he is, able to wield Hagrid and even making a Mountain troll stagger with a single punch.
His dragonfire is hot, and can melt most rocks and metals aside from certain enchanted minerals. Harry himself also has a degree though not immunity to magical fires. He can tank anything short of a Fiendfyre or a magma bath.
Certain senses like a sense of smell and sight are enhanced even in human form. Harry tends to accidentally switch between human and dragon form which can strain his eyes hence his eyeglasses.
Harry would also develop a talent for Arithmancy, and Runes (he doesn’t take Divination). Due to his heritage, he is also apt with Draconic Runes. Arithmancy and Runes are excellent for spell research, warding and enchantment of magical objects.
Aside English, Harry is fluent in Hungarian, Swedish and Draconian. While the draconic protection run obliterated the soul piece of Voldemort, it absorbed anything beneficial, which includes Parseltongue.
Trivia
- This version of Harry is still fond of Treacle Tart. Due to his dragon heritage he is very fond of lamb and mutton as Hungarian Horntails prefer to eat sheep.
- Aside being on the Gryffindor Quidditch team he is also part of the Dueling Club and the Cooking Club.
- Hedwig and he have a familiar bond, which means he and Hedwig can understand each other’s speech. Hedwig also gains a few traits from Harry, in that she grows larger then any owl (the size of a harpy eagle), her claws become bronze and as strong as a dragon’s and more strength and endurance. Harry wouldn’t be surprised if Hedwig would develop a fire breath one day.
- Dragons aren’t strictly monogamous, and can take more then one mate, though not all dragons do. Right now Harry is dating his close friends Hermione Granger and Luna Lovegood. It's possible more candidates can possibly be added in the future.
- His adopted father Branko is a Horntail but his adopted mother is a Swedish Short-Snout. His adoptive sister Helle is a hybrid. He calls Branko ‘Apa’ (father in Hungarian), Anneli ‘Mor’ (mother in Swedish) and Hella either Gazember or Skojare (Rascal in Hungarian and Swedish)
- While there are no more separate Houses in Hogwarts, Harry still sleeps in what used to be the Gryffindor Dorm. The Sorting Hat still gets used in History of Magic as a guest lecturer. And being one of Dumbledore’s snarky ‘sidekicks’.
- Dragons have the equivalent of godmothers and godfathers. Harry’s godmother Maria is a Hungarian Horntail and the dragon whom is hired to act as an obstacle in the Triwizard Tournament.
