Twins
“I’m pregnant”
Remus practically watches Sirius’ brain come to a screeching halt behind his eyes. It would have been comical if his heart wasn’t hammering in his chest waiting for him to say something. Then, he watched as the shock melted and the cogs started turning as his eyes flashed wildly between him and Regulus. Seeing where this was going he hastily nipped what he was about to say in the bud.
“They’re yours Siri”
The tension in his shoulders slacked and he relaxed slightly. He seemed pensive as if he were trying to figure out what to ask first. He seemed to figure it out soon enough though.
“How far along are you?”
“Almost twelve weeks”
Remus responded with a quirked brow knowing there was only one possibility on when it happened so he should have figured that out. He had the rare privilege of seeing Sirius blush but then something else clicked.
“You said they”
Oh
“Oh, yes. They’re twins”
“Twins.”
“Yes”
“Have you decided what you want to do?”
He looked guarded and masked like he didn’t want to show which way he wanted Remus to respond which wasn’t helping his nerves. Usually Sirius wasn’t so careful with his words, it was unusual, but this is an unusual case.
“Im keeping them, whether you’re with me or not, I’m keeping them”
He was firm about this and Sirius’ facade cracked. He looked relieved, vulnerable, and a bit disbelieving. Though the undercurrent was happy. He looked at him with unbridled fondness that hit Remus right in the chest.
“I’m always with you Moonshine”
“Good answer”
Sirius jumped like he forgot Regulus was then for a minute before remembering the situation and looking a bit hurt.
“Wait, why does my brother know before I do? Did you really think I’d react that badly?”
Seeing the crestfallen look on his face made him pause, obviously he didn’t tell Regulus first but he’s never been the reason for that look on his face before and it struck him silent. He should’ve trusted him immediately if that would’ve stopped that look from forming. Thankfully even though he couldn’t, Regulus took the mantle of explaining.
“He didn’t tell me anything Sirius, I made this “- pulling out his version of the family tapestry- “a couple years ago, it’s a small replica of the family tapestry, and I saw this forming over the holidays.” Handing it to Sirius.
Sirius looked at it for a good 2 minutes (as if Remus’ heart wasn’t already beating out of his chest; he just has to take his sweet time responding) before he finally speaks.
“A boy and a girl”
“Yes”
“And you didn’t choose to tell my brother before me.”
It was a statement not a question but he answered anyway knowing why he needed it.
“No”
“Okay.”
“..Okay? You’re taking this remarkably well, it’s freaking me out a bit actually Siri, how do you actually feel about this?”
“Honestly.. I think I’m in a bit of shock and I might completely break down later .. but right now all I know is that I'm with you, whatever you need.”
“Are you sure? You can’t go back on this, they’re not going away.”
“I’d never want them or you to go anywhere without me”
Oh.
“O-okay, okay good.”
“Good.”
(Regulus wants it known that he is watching this whole interaction completely exasperated by the fact that they haven’t realized how much love both of them are looking at each other with but with wishful thinking he thinks maybe giving them a moment by themselves might help.)
“Remus, you haven’t eaten, what would you like from the kitchens?”
Regulus says while getting up to leave
“Oh Reg, you don’t have to”- Regulus gives him a look he knows well- “ Hmph okay um maybe just some soup like oh! That onion soup I had the other night that was good”
Regulus looks amused but says nothing as he walks out.
