Prologue
Tessa would do anything to be invisible. Quite literally, anything. But if there was one thing about her family, it’s that they were never invisible. Maybe it was that she had eight siblings trailing after her very in love parents alongside her. Maybe it was that every single one of them managed to exceed the height parameters set by the healers who predict all that stuff. However, Tessa knew deep down it was none of these things. The reason the Cole family name prevented shrinking into the shadows is because no matter where they were, they would always be the odd one out.
Tessa’s family was perhaps the only family to truly accomplish being involved in both their pureblood roots and still engaging with the families who have controversially abandoned them. If you think too hard about it, it seems as though they were all living double lives: something proven impossible not too long after Tessa entered the real world.
Tessa loathed it all. She would never quite be pure enough to fit in at the extensive balls and dinner parties because she was anything but a blood purist, as was most of her family. And yet, no matter how much she didn’t believe in the fucking blood supremesist shit that had to have been made up by someone who had way too much time on their hands (seriously, go for walk people its not that deep), she would always be a part of the family that was horrible for not completely defecting. It was only the fact that her parents were rather well liked with the so called blood traitors that kept getting them invited to those gatherings too.
It was the moment that she stepped on the train her first year that Tessa knew she had her one chance. A place where no one really knew her, and she could focus on school without having to keep up appearances for the sake of her family. It all went rather well, she got sorted into Ravenclaw and made a few friends who would study with her until the library closed, only pausing to discuss whatever random topic plagued their thoughts that day. No one, except her siblings and the people she was never quite able to hide from at events knew anything about her life at home at all. Until it was all squashed years later. That’ll teach you to never ever ever trust a boy, all they do is ruin the perfectly good silence you tried so hard to find.
