I choose you!
"Wake up, sis!" Lily giggled, jumping up and down on the end of Petunia's bed. Today was the day which Lily got to pick her first pokemon. Petunia groaned and threw a nearby pillow at her sister's face. Lily stumbled back, before jumping back onto Petunia's bed.
"I'm ten today, that means I can pick my first pokemon and I go to Hogwarts in September!" Lily giggled, twirling her silky, ginger girls around her ring finger.
"Pin?" Her sister's chespin sighed, getting up to sit. Lily sweeped chespin in her arms and spun around the room with glee.
"Today I'll have to pick between Chespin, Fenneckin or Froakie, I wonder which I'll go for." Lily wondered, as she placed chespin down on the bed.
"Go away, Lilypad." Petunia scoffed, turning over and grabbing chespin. Lily sighed and exited the room in silence, yet still slamming the door behind her.
Petunia's sour mood wouldn't cause Lily's smile to falter, she glided down the stairs using the railings and skipped into the kitchen. She immediately begun scoffing down some fresh pancakes before rushing out of the door, sights set on the professors lab.
It was a short walk there, ten minutes maximum, and probably half that time with Lily's adrenaline coursing through her veins.
"Hey, I'm here for my pokemon!" Lily called out into the busy laboratory. A man with a small beard and messy, black hair walked towards Lily with a smirk.
"Welcome, my name is professor Sycamore, please follow me." He showed Lily into a room with three pokemon who were eating their food.
There was a small, blue frog with fluff around it's neck; a froakie. Next to it was a chespin, identical to Petunia's righ down to its green bristles. Finally, there was a small yellow fox with red and orange details on it's fur. Fenneckin.
"There all so cute, but I think this fenneckin really speaks to me." Lily grinned, crouching down next to the fox-like pokemon. "Do you want to join me in my journey?" Lily smiled, and the fox yipped in agreement, before jumping into her arms.
The professor provided her with a few additional pokeballs to fenneckins, and instructions on how to get to Hogwarts, the pokemon school.
As Lily was walking home, her fenneckin walked besides her. September was less than a month away, meaning that Lily would be attending Hogwarts soon! That also meant that she would be at the same school as the reigning kalos queen, Narcissa.
"I can't believe it." Lily sighed as she twisted the door handle and stepped back inside her house. Her parents must've gone to work because by the time she was back, the house was empty. Petunia was also gone, as she had school that day. Petunia never made it into Hogwarts, unlike Lily, so last year she began attending their local pokemon school.
Lily took fenneckin up to her room, and the two of them immediately began packing for Hogwarts, even though it was still a while away. After she had folded some clothes and books into her suitcase, Lily sat at her vanity and opened up her laptop.
She wasn't poor, but neither was she rich. Lily thought of herself as middle class.
Lily took a sip of her water from last night and cringed at the bitter, lukewarm taste. She shivered as she typed in Hogwarts into her search bar. It showed up pictures of students and pokemon alike learning in classrooms, playing in the courtyard, even battling and performing in school contests!
Lily wasn't sure whether she wanted to battle or perform yet, all she knew was that she was sure to catch some adorable pokemon along the way.
Weeks sped by like seconds, Petunia rejected Lily and her new Fenneckin, growing more distant by the day. Perhaps it was jealousy, Lily was unsure, all she was focusing on was her studies.
Before she knew it, the day had finally come where Lily and Fenneckin were stood outside of their empty house, looking up at the view before walking towards the train station that would lead them to their new school.
The walk was only an hour or two, and with Fenneckin next to her it felt like seconds. The two encountered many pokemon along the way, but didn't manage to catch any. Lily had her sights set on the pokemon contests at the school, and in order to compete in them you'd need a minimum of two pokemon.
In a pokemon contest, you can use as many as you'd like for the performing, but you need a different pokemon for the battle section. The requirements for pokemon are broad, the only rules being no legendaries, mythicals, or gygantimax.
Finally, Lily reached the train station. To get to the train for Hogwarts you would have to slip through a hidden alleyway onto a secret platform. After she got onto the platform, Lily couldn't help but feel like an odd one out.
For one, she was the only ginger in sight, so her bright orange hair had to stand out in a crowd. For another fact, most of the students had their pokemon in their Pokeballs, not out in the open like Lily did. Her fenneckin hopped into her arms, and Lily clutched onto it as she nervously stepped onto the train.
There was an empty carriage nearby the entrance, so Lily made herself comfortable, pushing her luggage above her seat. Fenneckin took it's own seat on the table in front of Lily.
As she stared out of the train window, Lily noticed an elderly couple kissing and hugging a boy around Lily's age goodbye. He had scruffy black hair, crooked glasses and brown skin. Next to him, a boy who was covered in scars anxiously walked into the train alone.
Across the platform, there was another married couple with stern looks on their face. They seemed very rich and well put together. The two said goodbye to their sons. One was short and pale with black curls and a slight frown, whilst the other was slightly taller with messy black hair (which was being smoothed down by his mother), and an excited sparkle in his eyes.
The two were let go and hurried onto the train together. Lily turned away, reached into her carry on bag and pulled a copy of little women out to read on the journey. When the train announced that it would leave in ten minutes, Lily heard the door of her compartment slide over.
A girl with a black afro, brown skin and Cupid bow lips was stood at the entrance. "Is it alright if I sit here?" The girl asked Lily.
Taken aback, Lily exclaimed, "Of course!" With a wide grin. Lily pulled fenneckin off the table and onto her lap, placing her book where fenneckin was sat before.
"Your fenneckin is so cute, I take it you're from kalos?" The girl asked, smiling warmly.
"Yes, and my name's Lily, how about you?" Lily smiled.
"Sinnoh, my name's Mary." The girl introduced herself, before zipping open her rucksack and reaching inside for a Pokeball. She released the most adorable pokemon ever, it was a small blue penguin, Lily knew that it was a piplup from her extensive research.
The two girls discussed their plans, and found out that they both decided on contests. In order to enter the grand contest at the end of every year, you need three ribbons throughout the year from the weekly contests, excluding holidays. You can only enter those if you have two pokemon, which neither of them did.
As the train was about to depart, the door slid open again, and an out of breath blonde girl with long hair and baggy clothes sat herself down. On top of her head was an orange monkey pokemon, otherwise known as a chimchar.
"Hello?" Lily asked, nervously.
"Hey." The girl responded, out of breath. "The name's Marlene, sorry for coming in so suddenly." She chuckled, as she pulled a hairtie from her wrist and tied her long hair into a short, messy bun; it had strands sticking out from every which way.
"No problem, are you going to do concerts as well?" Mary asked her, slight awkwardness in her tone.
"Pfft, no! Battles all the way," Marlene scoffed, folding her arms, "I already taught my chimchar flame wheel, we're gonna destroy the end of year competition!" She grinned with pride.
For gym battles at Hogwarts, you need to challenge eight teachers or members of staff and get badges off them for your victory. Then, you compete in the end of year competition. You can do this every year that you're at Hogwarts until you win the competition at the end of each year.
The winner of the competition wins the title of champion, but every ten years there is a competition to determain the grand champion. If Lily remembered correctly, the person who had won for around three years straight was called Bellatrix Black.
"The reigning grand champion is Dumbleore himself, he's been undefeated for sixty years!" Marlene sighed happily, leaning back into her seat.
"The Hogwarts queen for contests at the moment is Narcissa Black! She's like, I mean, she's so elegant." Mary giggled at her slip up, before glancing around for witnesses. The door slid open again, but this time there wasn't anybody entering, it was just all three of their pokemon playing in the hallway.
"Don't go far!" Lily shouted after her fenneckin who looked happier than ever with it's new friends. The three girls conversed with each other, until the pokemon all ran in, tripping over each other and slamming the door shut. The boy which Lily had seen on the platform before walked in, except he didn't have glasses on this time.
Lily then noticed that Marlene's chimchar had glasses on. She sighed and bent over, removing the glasses from chimchar and handing them to the boy.
"J-James Potter!" He smiled like an idiot, giving his hand for Lily to shake as he put on his glasses with the other hand.
"Lily Evans." Lily returned politely. The train began to slow down. So the girl released the handshake as James continued to stare at her.
He turned towards his carriage, saying goodbye to everybody as the girls began to get their luggage down. They all returned their pokemon so they didn't get lost. Once they were told to exit the train, everybody was leaving but were instructed to leave their luggage near the exit. So they did.
There was a tall man, who Lily knew as Reubeus Hagrid: the keeper of grounds and keys at Hogwarts. He told all first years to get on a boat with a capacity of ten people on each. Her, Marlene, Mary and four more people got on the boat together.
One of them was a boy who Lily saw at the station, he was the shorter one with black curls next to his brother. He introduced himself as Regulus Black. He was extremely pale, almost like a vampire, and he had grey eyes with little emotion.
Next to him, there was a boy with blonde scruff of hair and heavy eyebags. His name was Evan Rosier. His skin was pale but not ghostly like Regulus'. Evan introduced his twin who was next to him, a gorgeous girl called Pandora.
Pandora had long, blonde curls and ocean blue eyes. Her cheeks were rosy and pink. In her lap sat a chikorita who was using vine whip to wrap around Pandora's wrist. "She would rather be out of her pokeball." Pandora smiled.
Next to her was another boy, he had brunette scruffy hair and a cut lip. "Barty Crouch Jr." He grinned cheekily. Lily smiled, wrapping her ginger hair around her finger.
Finally, there was a girl who was staring into the sunset on the lake. She had dark skin, braids and a serious expression on her face. Once she realised that people were looking at her, she nervously stammered out, "Dorcas Meadowes." with a fake smile.
"What pokemon do you guys have?" Pandora asked, smiling widely.
Marlene took chimchar out of its pokeball and it immediately began to jump into Regulus' arms happily. It must've really liked him. Regulus chuckled nervously as he stroked it.
Lily took Fenneckin out of its pokeball and it sat obediently on her lap. Pandora fawnes over it, complimenting it's fur. Mary released her piplup, who got jealous of the attention that they were all getting and decided to pout on Mary's lap.
Regulus released his oshawatt, who stretched before happily hopping onto Pandora, forcing chikorita to scooch over. Barty released his litten who curled up on his lap, ignoring everybody else. Evan released a totadile who bit him on the head as soon as it was released. Mary gasped and asked if he was okay, but this seemed to be a normal occurance.
Finally, Dorcas released a small, green cat like pokemon. It was a sprigattito, Lily had never seen one in person as she lived in Kalos. It was very cute and talkative, the pokemon all played together whilst everybody continued talking.
Lily discovered that Evan, Dorcas and Barty wanted to do battles, whilst Pandora and Regulus were set on contests.
"My parents wanted me to do battles, but Sirius convinced me to do what I wanted, not them." Regulus explained.
"Who's Sirius?" Marlene asked.
"My brother," Regulus replied with a small smile, he pointed over to a boat nearby them with three boys leaning over the edge of the boat grinning madly at a sharpedo beneath them.
One of the boys had sandly blonde hair and was twice the size as the rest of them. He had a fuecoco on his head. Next to him was the boy who Regulus saw with on the station, his hair was scruffy again. The boy, Sirius, had a tepig next to him also leaning over the edge. On the other side of him, James Potter was almost falling off the boat, a charmander on his shoulder smiling like him.
"What house do you guys think you'll get?" Mary asked everybody. The four houses at their school was Zapdos, for menacing people with angry and sneaky personalities. Articuno, for reserved and highly intelligent students. Moltress, for kind and brave people with smart characteristics.
"My whole family has been in Zapdos, so probably that." Barty stated with an eye roll. Regulus and Evan both nodded in displeased agreement.
"Hopefully moltress, but I would be okay with articuno as well." Mary smiled.
"Me personally, if I'm not in moltress I will hit everybody in there!" Marlene snickered, arms folded.
"That's quite Zapdos of you." Dorcas mumbled, too quiet for everyone to hear, except for Lily and Marlene clearly. Marlene stated at her with wide eyes and a smile on her face, as if she had just seen the most perfect thing in her life.
"I'll probably get articuno, but I wouldn't mind moltress either." Lily smiled. The boats were almost at the school, so Hagrid told everybody to return their pokemon unless they have a valid reason not too. Everyone on the boat (except for Pandora) returned their pokemon quickly.
Marlene's chimchar hated to say goodbye to Regulus, but it hesitantly complied after a goodbye hug, as if it would never see him again. They all got off the boat one after the other, and began to walk into the school.
It was a beautiful building, even better in person. Lily loved the antique look of it. There were pokemon roaming the halls, apparently Dumbledore owned them all so they were free to explore the castle as they wished. The doors to the great Hall were larger than ten Lily's stacked on top of each other.
The sorting was explained before they entered. They would be called up in alphabetical order, and Dumbledore's Lucario would read their auras, telling them which house they should be sorted into.
When they walked in, there were three tables with all the different houses. Lily saw the Hogwarts queen sat with her cousin at the Zapdos table, so she excitedly pointed them out to Mary. Narcissa had a brionne on her lap whilst Bellatrix had a Snivy on hers. The two were waving happily at Regulus and Sirius.
The sorting went by quickly, and Barty was the first of their group to be called up. He was quickly sorted into Zapdos, so he happily ran to the table.
"Lily Evans." The teacher called after a few more names. Lily felt her heart skip a beat as she walked forward. She had to sit on a chair whilst Lucario read her aura. It took around a minute as it was probably stuck between two houses, before it barked towards the moltress table.
Lily sighed of relief and hurried over. Soon enough, James, Marlene, Mary, Sirius and their other friends had joined her. Pandora was in articuno, whilst Regulus, Dorcas and Evan were in Zapdos. The boy with the scars who Lily saw on the platform was called Remus Lupin, and Lily could immediately tell that they would get along well. The plump boy was called Peter, who was more like the others than Remus.
The food was delicious, and there was even pokemon food next to their own plates for their pokemon. Remus revealed that he had a cyndaquill that seemed to love Lily.
"I take it you're doing battles?" Lily smiled fondly at him.
"Yeah, probably." Remus grinned.
The students would have to sign up for either concerts or battles the week after school started. They could be greedy and do both, but not many students chose that path as it would be a lot of work.
"Your brother is so sweet." Mary told Sirius, who agreed happily. The two received their starters on the same day, although Regulus was a few months younger than him. Sirius decided to wait for Regulus' birthday to get his as well.
"I love your tepig, it's so cool!" Marlene grinned, tucking a loose strand of blonde hair behind her ear.
"Cheers, your chimchars well cool too, must be good for contests." Sirius grinned.
"Don't assume that she's doing contests because she's a girl, Marlene is actually doing battles!" Lily scolded him, appauled by his words.
"Oh, sorry." Sirius smiled awkawardly.
"Yeah, I'm gonna kick your ass in the battles." Marlene smirked, taking a large bite of the greasy chicken leg in her hand.
Dinner went by quickly, and when it was finished they had to follow their house leader to their dormitories. The moltress house leader was an older boy called Frank and his mr mime.
They had to walk for about ten minutes until they reached the portrait which their dorms were hidden behind. You had to knock in a specific pattern to be let in. Tap tap knock and it would swing open.
The names for who was in which dorm was written on the room door. Lily, Mary and Marlene all happened to share a dorm room. Their luggage was at the foot of their beds, Lily happened to have the one closest to the bathroom. She let her fenneckin out of the pokeball for it to get used to the room as she took her pyjamas and changed into her pink nightgown.
Marlene wore chekered pyjama bottoms as well as a baggy band tee to sleep in. Mary wore a silk satin pyjama set in light blue. Mary put her hair in a bonette whilst Marlene let hers loose as she slept.
Lily tied her hair in a messy bun on top of her head and read before she eventually fell asleep with a book on her chest and fenneckin curled up onto her lap.
The first morning had no lessons, so Lily decided to check out the library before classes started after lunch.
"Aren't you coming to breakfast?" Marlene asked as she changed.
"I don't think so, I can just get food later." Lily smiled. She was already dressed in fades out, flared jeans and a white sweater which screamed autumn. Her long, ginger hair was in plaits today. When Lily was doing her mascara in the mirror, she debated on covering her freckles with concealer but decided to leave them instead.
As soon as she was ready, Lily rushed towards the library, fenneckin in her arms. When she entered, Lily went straight to the non-fiction section to revise material for Pokemon typing class that afternoon.
Coincidentally, Remus also happened to be looking in that section of the library.
"Remus!" Lily giggled, hurrying towards him.
"Hey there, Lily." He returned.
Lily noticed that his cyndaquill was in his scarred arms. Their outfits were similar, only Remus had baggy jeans and a grandpa sweater.
"Which class are you in?" She asked him.
"I'm in bulbasaur." Remus said with a small smile, "So are Peter, James and Sirius."
"Perfect! Me, Mary and Marlene are as well! I hope that Pandora is there, that would be so fun." Lily sighed, before turning back to the bookshelf and selecting the first book which caught her eye.
The pair found an empty table and revised the material together whilst also discussing their plans.
"I hope to become a pokemon professor." Remus said nervously. His voice was tiny and nervous.
"You don't sound confident enough, you definitely will become one." Lily smiled warmly, "I don't really know what I want to be, maybe a performer, but I would also like to better the community." She thought. Lily was a smart girl, but she was also a very beautiful and talented girl.
"You can be whatever you want." Remus returned to her, and the two smiled fondly at each other before getting back to research.
Before they knew it, the time was almost noon, so they began to walk towards the great hall together. Upon arriving, Lily immediately rushed towards Marlene and began explaining how excited she was for lessons today.
"We have battling tomorrow!" Marlene squealed.
Lily ate a tuna sandwich and drank some ice cold water, condensation droplets landing on her fingers.
After she finished her food, Lily and Marlene both started to walk towards their lesson. Nobody was there except for a boy with greasy black hair and a large nose. He gave both Lily and Marlene a death stare before turning away.
"Freak." Marlene whispered to Lily, who felt slight unease standing near that boy. Lily also noticed a quaxly next to him, probably his partner.
The door to the classroom creeked open, and an old man with kind eyes was stood there, welcoming them in. The professor told them to take any seat, so Lily chose one in front of the board whilst Marlene chose the back corner.
"Lily Evans, Marlene McKinnon and Severus Snape I see." He smiled at them, "My name is professor Slughorn."
It took about five minutes but eventually everybody else began filling the classroom. Mary sat next to Marlene at the back with James and Sirius in front of them. Peter and Remus sat at the front at the desk next to Lilly's.
Finally, the last few people came in. Barty and Evan sat at the back at the desk on the opposite corner to Marlene and Mary's whilst Pandora and Dorcas sat in front of them. It looked as if Lily was going to be sat alone for this class until she felt somebody place their books next to them and sit down.
She turned her head to see the sweet soul who had chosen to sit next to her, only to be greeted by her favorite vampire, Regulus.
"Hey." Lily smiled softly at him.
"Hi." He returned the smile.
The lesson was slow paced, mainly filled with introductions and the professor showed the class his Emboar.
Lily and Regulus had so much fun laughing and passing friendly notes with each other, that she was sad when the lesson was finished.
"See you tomorrow." Regulus grinned at her.
"Yeah." She returned, waving goodbye to him.
Her first full day at Hogwarts was a success, and Lily returned to her dormitory after that with a wide smile.
She collapsed into her bed, stroking her fenneckin as she looked over her timetable for the next day. It looked like they would try battling tomorrow which was not something but Lily was particularly looking forward too. Nevertheless, if she wanted to be a contest coordinator she would have to battle sometimes. Oh well, why not give it her all.
