The letter.
For as long as Tommy could remember, he’d dreamt of attending Hogwarts. Growing up in one of the most prestigious pureblood families, it was practically inevitable. The name ‘Hogwarts’ was inscribed into the fabric of his childhood – whispered in the halls, spoken with high regard at dinner tables, and often the subject of loving and caring conversations among the adults. For Tommy, Hogwarts wasn’t just a school – it was everything that was right and powerful in the magical world, a place where he could finally prove himself worthy of his family legacy.
His excitement only grew the day that, five years earlier, his older brother Technoblade received his acceptance letter. He was sorted into Ravenclaw, the house for the wise, the intelligent, and the house for those who put learning above all. It was Techno all over.
If Tommy was being completely honest, he missed his brother while he was away. Techno always came home each holiday and never failed to write whenever he had just a moment of free time, but… it just wasn’t the same.
Despite them being five years apart, they were incredibly close, especially as they were growing up. And it’s not like Techno going to Hogwarts caused them to distance; Techno had written to him every single day and they remained just as close as before. But still, Tommy missed him.
Therefore, the day that Tommy received his own letter may very well have been the best day of his life. Not to mention the fact that his two best friends in the whole world got theirs too – Tubbo and Purpled. They were the two most amazing people Tommy has ever had the pleasure of meeting, and he had known the pair since childhood – having met Purpled when they were three, and Tubbo when they were five.
Golden duo, as they called themselves, met through a real game of chance. They just so happened to be camping at the exact same site and got to talking. It didn’t take a genius to know they were going to be best friends for life; they connected like no other!
And clingy duo? Well, they met through their fathers. Schlatt, Tubbo’s dad, and Phil had been friends for years – ever since their sixth year of school. They disconnected briefly when Phil went to work for the Ministry but reconnected due to Kristin realising their sons were the same age and demanded they meet at once – a miracle really. Oh, and if you’re wondering where the atrocity of ‘clingy duo’ came from, it was a nickname created by Purpled in order to embarrass his two friends. However, this sorta failed when the pair decided to quickly embrace it: clingy duo. It had sort of a nice ring to it right?
Anyway, to formally introduce them: Purpled was a half blood, and probably the most understanding person he knew. To literally anyone else, it may not seem that way – no, it definitely won’t seem that way. But Tommy knew better. On the outside, Purpled can seem a bit distant, and slightly intimidating, but on the inside…? To put it simply, he was awesome. He was extremely loyal to those he really cared about – like Tommy – and he was super smart too. Like ‘i don’t have to study but still pass all my classes with flying colours’ smart. And he’d do anything for Tommy, no questions asked. Oh, and that goes both ways! Tommy wouldn’t hesitate to drop everything for his best friend, and would be there for him in mere seconds, even if it meant losing everything.
But Tubbo? Tubbo was almost the exact opposite of Purpled. To his professors, he’s this quiet and intelligent young boy who causes a little bit too much mischief for his own good. To his friends though? He can be extremely chaotic… and loud, your typical gossip queen, and probably the coolest person you’ll ever meet – in more ways than one.
So that was that. Tommy had everything he could possibly want from the world and couldn’t ask for any more.
…But then why was there this empty feeling – like something was missing? I mean, all that was left now was to reach Hogwarts and be sorted into his house. Surely there wasn’t any more to it…
Right?
