Killer Queen
October 31st 1975 Friday. 5th year
“So where have the boys gone anyways?” Mary asked as they walked up to the common room after breakfast .The corridors were mostly deserted
“James said they had to get some last minute stuff for the party I think” Lily said.
“Didn't they already get everything?” Mary asked, looking over at Marlene.
“Hey don't look at me it's not like I share a brain with any of them” Marlene says putting her hands up in mock surrender.
“That's a bit debatable Marls” Lily says laughing a little.
“Is not, how is it debatable?” Marlene asks glaring at Lily, slightly annoyed.
“With the amount of time you and James spend together you might as well be conjoined at the hip or something you guys are honestly like siblings” Lily says as they reach the portrait of the fat lady, she quickly mutters the password and they enter the common room.
As they walked into the common room they could see people sitting around talking to their friends or others going around making sure the place was clean and some sewing the last bit of their costumes together for the party.
“Well our mams knew one another and I used to go over to his house during Christmas when I was younger and we both had an interest in quidditch so what do you expect?” Marlene said, sounding slightly annoyed as they walked into the common room.
“Okay Marls calm down I didn’t mean to offend you” Lily says looking at her slightly confused but also a bit concerned since Marlene usually never took anything to heart.
“Yeah Marlene no need to take it to heart like calm down” Mary chimed in looking at her confused.
“Also didn’t you live in Ireland till you were like seven, how did you go to James’ house” Mary asked looking slightly confused.
“Well Mary there is the amazing invention known as a plane which can fly to England believe it or not” Marlene said laughing slightly at Mary as they headed to their dorm to make sure they had everything they needed for the night.
“Right yeah sorry kinda forgot planes existed there” Mary said looking a bit embarrassed, her cheeks reddening.
“No worries Mary, not like we’re gonna tell anyone, are we Lils?”
“Course not,” Lily says, trying to stifle her own laugh.

When Marlene got out of the shower and threw on her usual jeans and Blondie t-shirt. When she entered the dorm shared with Lily and Mary she found the two girls talking about something while Mary curled Lily’s hair.
“Marls, should I wear my green dress or the blue ones with the flowers going around the bottom?” Lily asked when she spotted Marlene through the mirror.
“Well the green one would probably bring out your eyes but the blue one is honestly something that is more you because of how flowy it is on you” Marlene says, sitting down on her bed while she dried her hair with a towel.
“Thank you for giving me a somewhat proper answer but which one do you think would go better for the part?” Lily asked, still looking at Marlene through the mirror.
“Oh just to be clear this isn't a trick right” Marlene asked looking at Lily cautiously.
“Nope not a trick I want an honest answer since someone isn’t giving me one” Lily explains shooting a glare at Mary.
“What either one would look good on you Lils and you know that” Mary says, shooting a glare right back at Lily.
“Yes well that doesn’t matter I need to know which one will be better for the party Mary” Lily says giving Mary an exasperated look.
“In that case the green one the blue one is more of a summer one” Marlene says before going back to drying her hair with the towel.
“Thank you Marls” Lily says, giving Marlene a smile through the mirror.
“Fáilte romhat” Marlene says before the three girls settle into a comfortable silence, the sound of an ABBA record playing on a low volume in the corner being the only source of noise in the small shared dorm.

After a bit Marlene went down to the common room to see a few people cleaning up. She looked around before spotting Sirius and Remus setting up the record player and a spell for the records to switch automatically after they were finished. Marlene walks over to them, slightly curious to see what they were doing.
“Ah if it isn’t Marlene McKinnon herself, what are you doing down here, do you not have make up to be doing?” Sirius asks looking up when he hears her walk over.
“Do I fuck Sirius you’d be the one putting on more make-up the me so don’t start with that” Marlene says, smirking when Sirius asks that.
“What do you want and don’t say nothing because you wouldn’t be over here if it was nothing” Sirius asks, cocking his eyebrow up looking at her suspiciously.
“I don’t want anything just wanted to see what the feck it was ye two were doing” Marlene says putting on an innocent face, trying to convince him.
“No I am not adding your stupid Rattlin’ bog song it's terrible and way too fast” Sirius complains shooting her a glare before going back to what he was doing.
“Also unless you want to deal with James trying to sing along with it I’d advise stop while you’re ahead” Remus says not looking up from the book he was reading.
“Come on you’d love it when your completely pissed and you know it especially you Remus”
“No Marlene we are not putting it on so if you are going to keep bugging us about it go away” Sirius says looking up from what he was doing looking slightly annoyed.
“Right bye Black, bye Remus” Marlene says before leaving, walking to the portrait hole and leaving the common room.
“Fucking bitch” Marlene thinks to herself. She walks through the deserted corridors only occasionally passing by a student or two. She was just aimlessly walking around the corridors until she saw Evan and Barty, before she could turn around Barty saw her and walked over.
“You guys are having a party in your common room tonight right?” He asked, stopping right in front of her.
“Yeah we are, why do you ask? I mean I’m pretty sure no one will care that much if you’re there since you’re a Ravenclaw” Marlene said looking at him, slightly confused.
“Okay but what about Evan, Regulus and Dorcas would there be problems with that?” He asked, still watching her carefully.
“I mean everyone will just think Sirius invited Regulus, I’d imagine Evan would be with you the whole time and I mean if Dorcas stays around that other girl you lot are usually with I don’t think there would be much trouble” Marlene exclaims trying to look anywhere but at Barty.
“Pandora, her name is Pandora,” Evan says, going over to stand beside Barty, sounding slightly defensive over her.
“Right yeah sorry Pandora I forgot her name” Marlene apologises. “How did I forget her name, how stupid can I be?” Marlene thought.
“So you’re saying we can go if we wanted” Barty asks like he’s quizzing her.
“Fucking hell why can’t he just leave it at that and let me leave?” Marlene thinks to herself before responding. “No Crouch, no one will care just don’t start tormenting people just because you think you can and if you do this conversation did not happen since I do not want to take any blame for this understand”
“Alright McKinnon calm down Merlin, we’ll be on our best behaviour won’t we Rosie?” Barty says, putting his arm around Evan and looking at him smiling.
“You’re one to talk Bat, you wouldn’t know good behaviour if it hit you in the face at full speed” Evan says looking at Barty unamused but you could see a slight smirk on his face.
“Right I’m going to leave you two to do whatever it is you were doing before I walked down here even if it isn’t legal since I need to help Sirius and Remus finish setting up for later” , Marlene says before turning around and walking back to the Gryffindor common room.
“Bye McKinnon, see you tonight” Barty says before bursting into laughter beside Evan.
“Fuck sake is that kid high or something” Marlene thinks as she hears Barty laughing.

The common room was crowded and laughter and chatter could be heard through the whole common room. The sound of Changes could be heard from invisible speakers throughout the common room.
Butterbeer and fire whiskey was basically the only thing smelled throughout the whole common room and Marlene swore she could smell puke somewhere.
“Marls there you are, come dance with us” Lily said running up behind Marlene and grabbing her arm before leading her to the middle of the room where Mary was standing waiting for them.
When Mary saw Lily and Marlene her face lit up instantly and she started smiling. The three girls were dancing and laughing, not paying much attention to what was going on around them.
After a while the three girls decided to get a drink. They made their way to the table with all the drinks holding each other's hand so they wouldn’t lose someone.
When they got drinks the three girls started walking around to find a place to sit. Eventually they find a small alcove in the corner of the room with a small couch which they all pile onto slightly squashed.
While Lily and Mary were talking Marlene was looking around the room not really paying attention. She spots James standing at the opposite side of the room talking to Regulus with him not looking he was going to rip James apart for rambling about God knows what.
“Either I’m dreaming or James might have actually managed to get Regulus to go out with him or something” Marlene thinks to herself before spotting Sirius trying to drag Remus to dance with him.
“Oi Marlene you there?” Mary says, waving her hand in front of Marlene to get her attention.
“Hm yeah what's up?” Marlene asks, turning to face her two friends.
“Did McGonagall give us homework on Friday?” Lily asks moving forward a bit so she could see Marlene better.
“No I don’t think she did” Marlene said before going back to looking around the room Mary and Lily not noticing her withdraw from the conversation.
After a few minutes Marlene mutters something about needing air before quickly leaving the two girls and going to the portrait hole. When she leaves she's met with Barty and Evan leaning against the wall just outside the portrait hole.
“Ah McKinnon we were wondering if we were going to see you tonight” Barty says, pushing himself off the wall, walking over to her.
“Why exactly?” Marlene asks immediately, getting defensive.
“Because we can't get in and no one will let us in,” Barty says, smiling.
Marlene quickly says the password and the portrait swung open.
“Thank you McKinnon” Barty says, grabbing Evans hand and bringing him into the common room.
When the two boys go into the common room Marlene starts walking around deciding to go up to the astronomy tower. The halls were quiet since most people were either at the party or on bed given the time of night.
When she got to the tower she thought no one would be there but was surprised to see Dorcas standing by the railing staring up at the sky. She looked so peaceful almost like time had stopped and the threat of a war wasn’t there and nothing else existed. It was nice, peaceful even.
“I know you’re there, McKinnon” Dorcas says still looking up at the sky not paying her much attention.
“How’d you know it was me?” Marlene asks, taking this as an invitation to stand beside them or at least closer to them.
“You’re not exactly quiet you know, I heard your boots” Dorcas says finally looking over at her.
Marlene could feel her heart starting to beat faster when Dorcas looked at her staring at her with such an intense gaze Marlene wondered if she was plotting to murder her not that Marlene would mind that or at least she thinks that.
“My boots aren’t that loud you’re being dramatic” Marlene huffs still staring at them.
“Mhm whatever you say McKinnon” Dorcas says rolling their eyes before going back to staring out at the sky.
“Right well I’m going to go back to the party, bye McKinnon” Dorcas says before she quickly kisses Marlene's cheek and leaves.
Marlene just stares at where they were for a few minutes before quickly following going back to the party as well.
