Why am I like this??
September 16 1975 Tuesday 5th year
Marlene had been held back by professor Binns again for distributive behaviour. What was distributive about asking for a spare quill from Sirius is beyond her understanding clearly. She was lucky to avoid a detention from her history teacher; she knew that for certain. Well life goes on
As Marlene is walking to charms the corridors long deserted. She realises she forgot her book so she goes quickly to the Gryffindor common room before going up to her shared dorm with Lily and Mary to grab her books. When she grabs her books from her bed Marlene quickly realises she forgot to do her charms homework, again. “Fucking brilliant” she thinks to her self.
Marlene quickly debates whether or not she should just skip charms altogether she quickly decides against it remembering McGonagall threatening to kick her off the quidditch team if she skipped another class without a good reason.

As she heads to charms she mentally prepares herself having not done the homework for the second that week she knows professor Flitwick will be annoyed he normally is but she just can’t bring herself to care about it that much anymore. It’s not like she’ll even need charms in the future, right? Probably not Marlene thinks walking into class
“Sorry professor, I was talking to professor Binns about something” Marlene says walking into class going over to her usual seat ignoring how the other students were watching her closely. While she dropped her bag at her desk before sitting down.
“That's alright Marlene but I will be asking him to make sure you’re telling the truth though” Professor Flitwick responds looking at her standing on his pile of books.
Marlene takes her books from her bag, placing them on her desk hoping, praying she stalled long enough that he won’t ask for her homework and that she’ll be able to finish tonight as long as James doesn’t do one of those unset quidditch trainings he normally does at least once a week because if he does Marlene definitely won't have time to do it with a detention already waiting for her at the end of the day. Though she could just not sleep, why would she do homework if she could sleep instead?
“Right class if you could take out your homework for me to collect” Flitwick explains taking out his wand to collect the work.
“Well shite that's just my luck isn’t it” She thinks slightly panicked, slightly nervous not sure what she’s going to tell him this time to avoid getting another detention.
“Ms . McKinnon, where's your homework?” the short professor asks when he gets to her desk.
“Well shite” Marlene thinks before quickly saying. “Sorry sir I must have left it in my dorm I can show it to you tomorrow morning though”
“Right, that'll be down as no homework if I don't get it by eight tomorrow morning, whether you leave it on my desk if I am not here or go look for me in the great hall, understand?”
“Yes sir sorry” she responds looking down at her desk slightly ashamed of herself.
She could hear some people laughing silently, most likely at her. “Fucking brilliant” she thinks to her self wishing the floor would swallow her whole.
With that, Flitwick leaves and goes to collect everyone else's homework before starting to teach.
Marlene starts trying to pay attention she really does but due to lack of sleep from staying up trying to finish McGonagall's homework and listening to Mary talk about some sixth year Ravenclaw she doesn’t remember the name of she really didn’t get much sleep and Flitwick's drawling, squeaky voice wasn’t helping her stay awake. So can you really blame her for falling asleep? “I mean it’s not like we’re doing any spells today right?” so you can’t really blame her.
About half an hour later she’s woken up by someone poking her side. She sits up and looks over to see James looking at her smiling like usual.
“What Potter” Marlene whispers as to not catch Flitwik's attention.
“Nothing just thought I’d wake you” James responds still smiling maniacally.
“Fuck you, you dickhead” Marlene says, rolling her eyes with no real malice behind what she’s saying even though she is still annoyed.
“Watch your language, McKinnon,” James says mock offended. “Anyways, are you up for quidditch practice later?” James asks, still paying attention to Flitwick.
“Of fucking course he’d ask that” Marlene thinks before responding. “Sorry can’t have to do Flitwick's homework plus I have a detention for not doing Slughorn's homework as well and also I just don’t want to do quidditch tonight I’d prefer to sleep”
“Seriously Marls, I swear it’s like you’re trying to beat Sirius’ record or something and seriously you think sleep is more important than quidditch. I'd expect that from Sirius but you McKinnon really?” James says stifling a laugh. “But fine whatever no quidditch tonight”
“Well I didn’t sleep last night so shut up” Marlene says before paying attention to Flitwick.

At break Marlene walks towards the great hall. When she's there she takes her usual seat beside Mary across from Lily who is sitting beside Remus who's most likely waiting for Sirius, Peter and James.
“Marlene, if you had to date any guy in the school who would it be?” Mary asks before Marlene has even sat down.
“I would rather jump off the astronomy tower then date a guy thank you very much” Marlene responds sitting down.
“See I told you she’d say that Mary” Lily says straight after Marlene answered.
“Seriously, not even one?” Mary asked, slightly dumbfounded.
“Yeah I know crazy right a lesbian who doesn’t like boys what a shocker” Marlene exclaims sarcastically earning herself a glare from her best friend, a chuckle from Remus and a laugh from Lily.
“Ha ha very funny Marls” Mary says before going back to eating her lunch.

After classes Marlene goes straight to her dorm not bothering with going to dinner she could always stop at the kitchen on her way back from detention if she was hungry. Instead she decides to start her essay for charms.
She starts flipping through her books before starting to write whatever the book said about colour changing charms changing it to her own words.
About 2 hours later Marlene finishes and decides to go to Flitwick's classroom on the way to detention so she doesn’t forget about it tomorrow.
