Chapter 7
Days and weeks went by. Suddenly it was the marauders' last days in Hogwarts. James and Regulus were now officially dating and all their friends knew about them. Everything was perfect, even though it was last night together.
“Isn’t it crazy how everything will change now. You will be gone, living your life somewhere, and I'll be stuck here, in school.” Regulus said while looking deeply into the sunset. They were in the astronomy tower, their usual spot.
“Yeah, but we still have each other.” James took a tighter grip from Regulus’ hand as he spoke.
“I'm scared for us.” Regulus turned his gaze from the sky to James “The war is getting stronger, you will be far away. What if something happens-”
“Hey.” James interrupted Regulus, leaning closer to him. “Even the war can’t come between us. Yeah, we will be far away, I’ll write to you every day. I promise.”
They stayed there though the whole night, first talking about everything, their dreams, fears, and when they didn’t have anything to talk about, they kissed. There were tears, but also so much love. And in the end, morning came far too soon.
“I wish I could free this moment. Just stay here with you forever.” Regulus whispered.
“This is not goodbye, you know. I will write to you as much as possible. We will find a way to meet during holidays. We will figure this out, Reg. I swear.” James told.
As the dawn approached, it was time to leave. James and Regulus were walking in a Hogsmeade station, making their way to the train.
“I better go find a sea-” Regulus started, but James didn’t let him finish.
“This is my last time on this train, you are sitting with me.”
“But your friends?” Regulus said, confused.
“Know my boyfriend, come on.” James leaned them to the train where other marauders already were.
As they walked in the compartment, Sirius' face turned into a grin. “Well, well, well, It’s my brother and brotherfucker.” He said jokingly.
“Shut up padfoot.” James said, rolling his eyes and sat down with Regulus.
Boys spend the whole ride talking about what has happened during these years, they told all their secrets to Regulus, who just listened quietly in James’ arms.
As the train stopped to King’s Cross Station, Regulus and James stepped out of the train. Regulus turned to James. “So this is it.” He said with a calm voice.
“This isn’t the end.” James said and leaned to kiss Regulus. At the moment, it felt like they were the only people in the platform.
“Until next time.” Regulus whispered against James’ lips.
“Until next time.” James repeated.
