Trails and trips!

“So you’re not going to be here next summer?” A smaller, teenage Caitlyn asked a smaller, teenage Vi.

The two had grown fairly close over the summers, only really seeing or thinking of each other for the two weeks of camp.  Until high school.  Caitlyn wasn’t going to be back due to all of her summer classes so she could try and get college credits early, Vi had three siblings to take care of.

“I won’t.  But maybe I’ll come back and be a counselor?” Vi asked, looking at Caitlyn and holding a hand out.

“You better.” Caitlyn gave a smile, shaking Vi’s hand.  That summer, Caitlyn discovered that she did in fact have a crush on someone she hadn’t even kept in contact with.

The loud alarms of the camps crappy microphones went off!  Though some were already up, it was a 10am warning alarm!

Vi groaned and turned over in the top bunk, crossing her arms to try and get more comfortable… Riiiiiiinnggg-

Vi screamed as she rolled away from the sound and ended up falling off the bunk, back hiding the ground with a thud.

“Oh fuck.” Vi groaned, leaning her head back against the wooden floor.  There was laughter, and she knew that laugh.

“You should’ve seen your face!  HA HA!” Powder pointed and laughed at her older sister, Mylo standing next to her laughing as well.  Powder holding an alarm clock, the culprit.

“You little brats-“ Vi said through her teeth before getting up and chasing after them.  Powder and Mylo shoved themselves out the door of the wolf’s cabin.

“Yeah!  Keep running!” Vi stepped out the door, catching herself at the doorway.  She sighed before looking over.  Gert and Margot were 100% getting their eye candy this morning.  Violet Lanes in a tank top and shorts!  What a meal!

“Morning…” Vi gave a small wave before moving inside the cabin to change for the day.

The hiking and trails were going to be led by some counselors while the others kept the kids busy around camp!

By coincidence, Caitlyn and Vi were together to lead some hikes around!  They were the only two who really knew the trails, other than Claggor, but he wanted to stay back for some crafts!

“Good morning.” Vi said, walking over to Caitlyn who was holding a small clipboard.

Violet.” Caitlyn gave a small nod before taking the small wooden pencil to cross out Vi’s name.

“What trails are we taking?” Vi asked, moving to peak over at the clipboard, Caitlyn lowering it a bit.

“I picked some small ones, the Junior Trail, Bunny Trail, and Butterfly trail.  Then we are gonna wrap around and do the Dragon Trail before coming back for the movie night.” Caitlyn said, turning her head.  Oh wow their faces were very close right now.

“Sounds great, cupcake.” Vi gave a small, seeing Caitlyn’s face turn a light pink.

“Caity!” A voice called, causing them both to look over.  A ginger.  No, worse, Maddie.

Maddie was closer to Caitlyn and the whole Piltover group.  They went to highschool together!  Now going to college as well, but not staying together in a dorm.  Just seeing each other around at parties and classes!

“Maddeline, you’re not on the list?” Caitlyn asked, looking down at the clipboard.

“No, your mother asked me to join since it was a bigger group!” Maddie grinned.  Caitlyn blinked before looking pass Maddie to where her mother was.  Her parents were near the mess hall, talking around the campers, but her mother looked at her.  Caitlyn shifted her jaw before looking at Maddie with a smile.  “Sounds good.”

“Please, call me Maddie.” Maddie was quick to look at Vi and held her hand out.  Vi smiled and shook Maddie’s hand.  “Call me Vi then.” Vi answered back.

Caitlyn just stared at the two before finally speaking up, “let’s get going then.” She turned to the campers to get their attention and go over the rules for trails!

-

Maddie and Caitlyn weren’t… not not friends.  Listen, when you’re 19 and had a few drinks… you explore some things about yourself.  But Caitlyn’s mistake was bringing Maddie around her mother.

Last semester, before her 3rd year at the camp, Maddie and some friends came to Caitlyn’s house for a party!  Cassandra and Tobias knew about the party, it wasn’t some huge event, some of the friends parents and family came too, it was a huge pool-

But it was also Caitlyn’s 1st time realizing her crush on Vi, even before the muscles.  Cassandra had overheard Caitlyn telling Mel and Jayce.  How Caitlyn ‘didn’t want to follow Vi on Instagram and seem weird’ or would ‘Vi even like me back’.  So, as a mother, Cassandra did her research.

Vander’s kid.  Violet Lanes was Vander Lanes kid, aka not who Cassandra wanted Caitlyn around.  So, at this fateful party, Cassandra saw how close Maddie and Caitlyn were.  Chatting by the pool side, talking with Mel and Jayce, Caitlyn even leaning over to wipe some water out of Maddie’s face.  And ever since then it’s been the:

“How’s Maddie?” From Cassandra.

“Where’s Maddie?” From her mother.

Maddeline is very pretty, Caitlyn.” From her father.

Caitlyn wasn’t stupid.

-

“So, how did you two meet?” Vi asked, hands softly gripping at her hiking backpack, looking at the two women to her left, Maddie between Caitlyn and herself.

“We got to Pilt together.” Caitlyn answered, eyes following the small map before folding it and moving a bit faster when a camper turned to ask a question.

Pilt?” Vi asked.

“It’s short for Piltvover Univeristy.  It’s better then saying PU…” Maddie let out a small laugh.

“Oh Pee-U- that’s hilarious.” Vi shook her head, looking over at where Caitlyn was.

“Caitlyn talks about you back home.  I’m glad she had a friend like you here.  She’s very introverted and keeps to herself a lot during school days.” Maddie spoke.  “And she’s very pretty, so I would hold any compliment of hers to a higher standard.” She nudged Vi’s arm.

Vi just let out a quiet laugh, glancing at Maddie then looking back at Caitlyn… She is very pretty.  Vi allowed her cheeks to grow a bit pink at the thought.

⚲ϙϙ𐊭Ϙ⚲ϙ

There wasn’t much that happened on their smaller trails!  It was just a lot of Caitlyn ranting about what berries could kill you and how to test to see if it would kill you or not-

But they got back to camp to gather some more water and snacks before going on the Dragon Trail!  Lots of the smaller campers stayed back and more of those who were 14-16 came with, so a smaller group.

Vi led this trail this time, since she knew it better than Caitlyn!  It did have a more smaller squeeze on the side of the nearby mountain, so Vi showed the group how to grip onto the rocks just in case.

Well, it ended up very wrong!

Caitlyn was walking and trying to shift, but the feeling of a very circular rock caused her to shift her foot, sliding.  It caused her to tip over, legs first, down the side of the mountain.

Maddie gasped and Vi was quick to try and grab her, but Caitlyn was going down with a gasp.

Luckily, the way the trail was, they were that high off low ground, so Caitlyn just landing on a small patch of grass.  But now Caitlyn was slightly freaking out!  “fuckfuckfuck” was whsiepred.

“Shit- here, get them back to camp, follow going back.” Vi said, taking off her backpack and handing it to Maddie.  “Cait!  You’re okay!” Vi yelled down.

“What about-“ “I’ll grab her, just go.” Vi said, waving her hand before she moved to slid down the side of the rock, getting down to where Caitlyn was.

Caitlyn winced as she sat up, back of her arms covered it small cuts and scraps.  She did turn her head hearing some thudding, but it was just Vi.  Her eyes wide and hands shaking.

“You okay?  Hey, hey, don’t look anywhere else, look at me.” Vi was quick to place a hand on her shoulder to turn her, forcing her to look at Vi.  Once they made eye contact, Vi smiled.

“Hey, just breathe, okay?  You’re all good, you’re probably being pumped with adrenaline right now.” Vi joked, jokes is how she usually helped others.  Vi took Caitlyn’s hands, holding them slightly hard, thumbs running across the back of her hand.

“Don’t look or think, just breathe.” Vi whispered.  This seemed to have helped Caitlyn!  She was slowly breathing in and out, the tears in her eyes blinking away.  It was maybe a few beats of silence before Caitlyn whispered an I’m sorry.

“Nothing to be sorry for, you just took a little joy ride.” Vi smiled.  That smile.  It had Caitlyn smiling as well.  It worked at least.  Vi moved a hand away from one of Cait’s, moving some hair out of Caitlyn’s face.  Some hair fell out of her ponytail when she fell.

“You think you can stand?  You landed on a trail.” Vi moved to stand up, hands moving under Caitlyn’s armpits to help her up.  Caitlyn used her right foot to push herself up, hands shooting to Vi’s shoulders once her left foot added any pressure, wincing.

“What?  What?” Vi was quick, looking at her eyes.

“I-I think I just sprained my ankle.” Caitlyn said, clenching her jaw.  Vi looked around before she turned and crotched down a bit.

“Hop on, I’ll carry you.” Vi said, looking back as hands moved under Caitlyn’s knees.

“Vi-“

“It’s okay, you’re not that tall.” Vi joked.  Caitlyn just scoffed out a laugh before she placed hands on Vi’s shoulders and hopped, Vi catching her and pulling her close.

“Hold on, princess.” Vi teased, Caitlyn’s arms wrapping around Vi’s shoulders before they began to move!  It was silent for a while as Vi was fairly focused on just getting them back.

“Thank you.” Caitlyn whispered, looking down a bit.  Vi feeling her eyes on her.

“No need, I know you’d do the same for me.” Vi said with a small hum.  Caitlyn ended up melting into Vi’s back, the adrenaline finally calming down, making her tired.

“Princess needs a nap?”

Shut up.”

⚲ϙϙ𐊭Ϙ⚲ϙ

“Why haven’t you followed me yet?” Vi suddenly asked.

“What?” Caitlyn asked, leaning off Vi’s back a bit.

“I told Jayce to tell you to follow me.  I followed you, why haven’t you followed me back?  Too good for me?” Vi asked.  From this angle, Caitlyn saw how Vi was calm.  She wasn’t upset or trying to start anything, she was just asking, making conversation almost.

“I…” Caitlyn trailed off.  “To be honest, school had been so busy and… I didn’t want to be weird.” She mumbled.

“Why would it be weird?”

“I don’t know.  I didn’t see you until, what, last year?  It had been like 7 years since I last saw you.  I thought you didn’t remember me.” Caitlyn said quietly.  Vi fell silent.

“Well, I’ll remind you when we leave.  I want to talk to you more, not just for two weeks out of the year.” Vi said with a short nod.  Caitlyn was glad Vi couldn’t see her, she was… shocked!  And… happy.

⚲ϙϙ𐊭Ϙ⚲ϙ

When they got back to the camp, the sun had already begun to set!  So, once they were spotted by some campers, Cassandra came running over, as well as Tobias.

“Caitlyn!  Is she okay?” Cassandra moved to help Caitlyn off Vi’s back, Tobias bringing a chair over.

“I think she twisted her ankle, but other than that…” Vi trailed off and stepped back.  Jayce, Mel, and Maddie also rushed over, seemingly putting Vi out of view of Caitlyn.

“Are you okay?” Maddie asked, pulling Caitlyn into a small hug, moving back and placing her hands on Caitlyn’s face.  What?  Caitlyn didn’t… react or… no she did react.  Vi can’t see her face.  Vi can’t-

“Yeah, I’m… I’m good.” Caitlyn gave a small smile before Maddie… pressed a kiss to her forehead.  Vi clenched her jaw before she stepped back and turned to leave, disappearing from Caitlyn’s vision.

“Let’s get her to bed.” Tobias commented before picking up his daughter Princess-style and getting her to her cabin to rest for the night.

⚲ϙϙ𐊭Ϙ⚲ϙ

Vi laid on her back in her bed, tossing a small ball up, then catching it, then repeat.  Maddie and Caitlyn were a thing.  Are a thing.  Why would Vi think she had a chance with Caitlyn Kiramman?

“Friends share kisses all the time!” Claggor said, shaking his head.

“Clagg, it’s fine.  Caitlyn doesn’t like me like that, I guess.  She doesn’t follow my Instagram because maybe Maddie told her.  It’s all good, I’m… I’m good, really.” Vi finally sat up, looking over at her brother.  He gave a small sigh and stepped over.

“If you need anything, I’m here.” Claggor reached up, squeezing her hand.  They shared a soft look before Vi waved him off.  She decided a movie night wasn’t her style tonight.

Vi was… Vi didn’t know what she was.  Vi just turned off her small lamp, rolled over, and went to bed for the night.

Jayce and Mel helped Caitlyn out of the cabin and onto a small chair next to the bleachers so they could watch the movie!  Caitlyn thanked them before her eyes scanned around in the crowd.

“She’s not here.  Claggor said she stayed in for tonight.” Jayce said, knowing Caitlyn was looking for Vi.  Caitlyn just sighed and leaned back in her chair.  Why did Maddie do that?

I fucked up.
