Wake Up
Vi opened the door and looked at the bed
She stopped at the door, frozen and didn’t take a step forward
“What the fuck” vi thought “no it couldn’t, it can’t be” Vi’s breath started getting more heavy, tears starting to form in her eyes, hands shaking at what she saw, might be what she’s thinking
When Vi walked in she saw a white sheet over a person in the bed
Vi didn’t dare take a step forward, all the thoughts going through her head, all the possibilities
After a few minutes Vi slowly walked towards the bed, as she did she saw a chart, she decided to check it, just in case, maybe this is the wrong room after all
Vi, hands shaking, she just about picked up the chart, she looked at it for a few seconds
Vi opened the chart slowly
As she opened it and looked into it, the chart dripped through her hands, making it fall to the ground. She stumbled back against a wall, when her back touched the wall she slowly slid down it onto the ground
The chart said
Patients name - Caitlyn Kiramman
Vi couldn’t believe what she just saw
She had to make sure she saw right, was it right? Was her mind playing tricks on her?
She knew she had to check again
Vi reached for the chart and opened it faster this time she looked at the name again
Patients Name - Caitlyn Kiramman
Underneath it said
Time of Death - 14:29
As Vi read the name again, and saw the time of death
The name she begged not to be in there, and the time of death she didn’t see before sent her over the edge
Vi threw the chart across the room and cried with her knees tucked into her body
After a few minutes of crying Vi got up and wiped her tears, tears were still forming in her eyes but she tried to ignore it
Vi walked to the bed and stood over it
She grabbed the white sheet
She had to see her face one last time
She has lost the love of her life, the girl who she trusted the most was now gone
A tear rolled down Vi’s face and onto the white sheet
Vi crying a little more, tears now streaming down her face
After a few seconds Vi pulled the sheet up
She was back outside the door, hand still resting on the handlebar
Vi looked at the room number on the door “Room 138” it was the right room
That thought of losing Caitlyn got to her and made her more scared to walk in
Vi took a deep breath, opened the door and walked in
As soon as she walked in tears started forming in her eyes again
“Oh Cait” vi sobbed running to the bed
Caitlyn was hooked up on machines, loads of wires and tubes in her. She was on a ventilator and all Vi could hear was ‘beep, beep, beep’.
She had a bandage over one side of her eye
“The doctors couldn’t save her eye” Mel said walking in and standing next to Vi
Vi looks over her shoulder for a split second then turns back to Caitlyn looking at her
Putting her hand to her head and stroking the top of her head
“They’ve stitched her up too”
Vi looks at Mel
“Caitlyn got stabbed by Ambessa, and she took the knife out of her stomach to take Ambessas green rune magic that was on her arm, it was protecting her from getting hurt” Mel says “she lost a lot of blood because of it” Mel looked at Cait and then looked down she couldn’t bare seeing Caitlyn on a ventilator with wires in her
“Will she wake up” Vi says tearing up
Mel puts a hand on Vi’s shoulder
“She’s a fighter, of course she will”
Mel leaves, leaving Cait and Vi alone
Vi holds Caitlyns hand “you still look beautiful even with one eye, cupcake” she chuckled lightly with a tear rolling down her cheek
“You know I still remember the first time we met” Vi strokes Caitlyns hand with her thumb “I didn’t trust you at all, you were a Piltie after all” vi chuckled again
“I still remember you said to me, In what mad world would I trust someone like you? Vi chuckled trying to imitate Caitlyn’s voice “and you did end up trusting me. Who would’ve ever thought?” Vi says tears still streaming down her face as she replayed the memories in her head
I said to you on the same day “the Undercities gonna eat you alive” vi chuckled “don’t say I don’t keep my word” Vi laughed lightly looking down
And then you got me released from Stillwater and our journey started from there, best journey I’ve ever been on
As Vi was holding Caits hand and talking about there story Vi felt a a squeeze, she immediately looked at Caitlyn “oh my god”
Vi ran to the door and shouted “I need a doctor, I need a doctor right now!”
A doctor came almost straight away as he walked in Vi told him “she squeezed my hand”
The doctor looks at Caitlyn checking her pupils with a light
The doctor then looks back up at Vi and looks down
Vi knew what he was saying but she knew what she felt “What? No I… I felt her squeeze my hand!”
The doctor looked at Vi sorrowful “this happens sometimes, the muscles sometimes just twitch”
“I felt her squeeze my hand. I know what I felt” Vi said
The doctor puts a hand on Vi’s shoulder, looks at her and says “I’m sorry” and walks out
Vi sits on a chair and holds Caitlyns hand, being there for her, she’ll never leave her not even for a minute, not until she wakes up
Vi holds Caitlyns hand and pulls it to her lips
“Please Caitlyn, please” Vi says quietly, kissing her hand again, with tears in her eyes, she takes Cait‘s hand and puts it to her forehead and closes her eyes “wake up”
