When Teddy was struck by lightning, it seemed like he was more surprised than he was hurt. (I guess you could say he was shocked.) For a moment, he just sat there, staring down at himself in confusion, before he realised he was on fire.
“Shit!” He yelped, patting his robes.
“Aguamenti,” James said, surprisingly calmly.
“Thanks, mate.” Teddy sighed.
“It’s very rare for people to be struck by lightning.” I told them.
“Yeah, so?” they asked me in unison.
“So, somebody probably made it hit you. The spell for conjuring lightning is a simple one and can be done by beginners, but when someone more advanced at Conjuring performs it, it will have more effective results.” I gestured to Teddy’s robes, which were starting to smell like a campfire.
“But who would do that?” asked James.
I made an over exaggerated sigh and pointed to the Slytherin stands where Vincent Goyle and Annalise Zabini were. Apart from the Slytherin Quidditch team captain, they were really the only ones there.
“It wouldn’t be off character for him.” Teddy slumped down in his seat.
We were silent for a moment before I asked, “Why does he hate you so much?”
Teddy shrugged, “Believe me, if I knew, it would probably make my life so much easier.”
...
We got to the common room in celebration, congratulating Vicky and Cynthia on their victory.
“I probably could have won the game single-handedly.” I drawled. I used to be on the Quidditch team, but when Cynthia was made captain last year, I didn’t make it back on. No hard feelings, but I like to tease her about it.
“Oh, shut up,” she pushed me away, “Even Eliana could do better than you.”
We were quiet for an awkward amount of time. Nobody really liked to talk about my sister, because nobody really knows what happened to her. Except for me.
Eliana, my twin sister, was given the opportunity to study abroad with my Uncle Charlie in Romania, rather than returning to Hogwarts this year and next. You see, Ellie is obsessed with dragons. Ever since she first set eyes on one when she was six years old, she wanted a pet dragon. She even managed to smuggle a dragon egg into Hogwarts when she found it in the forbidden forest in her second year.
But nobody knows that. Everybody thought of her as the funny kid who got into trouble all the time (which she was). Ellie wanted people to keep thinking that. She didn’t want them to know she was smart. She didn’t want them to know she was normally a good kid. “That’s not the kind of reputation that I want.” she’d always say. So that’s why everybody thinks she was transferred to Durmstrang, where the ‘bad kids’ were usually sent. In reality, she’s in Romania, working with Uncle Charlie.
I’m happy for her, though. She gets to do what she loves without worrying about getting into too much trouble. I wish I could say the same about myself.
When I first met James and Teddy, it was because we all happened to get detention on the same day for completely different reasons. Teddy and James already knew each other, and they sort of adopted me as their friend. We had many adventures together, made many messes together, and earned many, many more detentions together. But that’s what friends are for.
