The Ball pt 1
Lily's POV
The ball is only half a week from now! It's so exciting!! Last weekend we went shopping for dresses. We are finally going to try them on today (after class). Alice and Mary went down to the common room so they could wait for Yazmin to go get breakfast. Marlene is still in bed, moaning about how the world is awful and how she hates mornings. “Hey Marlene, you should hurry if you still want food and say hi to Dorcas before class” “what’s the point” she says with a sad tone. She's been down all week, and there's this weird and sudden distance between her and Dorcas. “What is going on with you and Dorcas anyway? I noticed you two have been distant, did you run out of gossip or something?” I'd love to know what is going on, but knowing Marlene, she’ll probably refuse to talk. “No, I said something and now Dorcas is avoiding me, so I decided to avoid her as well.” Wait, they’re actually in a fight? That has literally never happened before. They're like inseparable. “What did you say to make her avoid you?” she seems very hesitant “hey, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to. But you know I’d never judge you and I’m here for anything, ok?” “Yeah, thanks” she says as she picks her outfit for the day off the floor. I get back to doing my makeup and brushing my teeth. Great. Now there's this awkward silence. “You know, I’ll just tell you, but you have to promise that you won’t just walk away, like Dorcas did” “I promise” I answer with a smile. She takes a deep breath and starts explaining.
“Wait, so you literally told her your feelings and she just- WALKED AWAY??” “yup” ok well, Whow, I expected better from Dorcas “that’s just mean, even if she doesn’t feel the same, she could at least still try to be there for you as a friend! Oh, and I kinda suspected that you're gay since around this summer so no need to worry” yeah when I did my research to understand Remus, the signs on Marlene were suddenly really obvious.
We talk some more on our way to breakfast. I’m happy she told me, I think she needed to tell someone, you can see that she’s sorta relieved that she doesn’t have to carry it all alone anymore.
Just before breakfast I had the sudden great idea of asking Remus to be my date to the ball, seeing how Sirius is already going with Marlene and I really want to avoid James asking me, it seemed like a good idea. So I take Remus apart now that everyone is busy. "Hey Remus, would you maybe want to go to the ball with me? As friends." Hopefully he understands where I'm coming from. "Yeah sure, why not." He smiles gently. I give him a thing and we sit back down. "So, are you going with Remus then?" Marlene whispers with a grin on her face.
Half a week later I'm sitting in our dorm with Marlene, Dorcas and Mary to show our outfits to each other and do hair and make-up. "I think Marlene looks SO sexy!" Mary yells when Marlene walks out the bathroom. She does look really good, she's wearing black trousers and blazer on a dark green and gold corset. Her hair is thrown up in a messy bun and her make-up is simple but with bright red lips. "Well you don't look too bad yourself Mary" Marlene giggles with a wink. "Get a room!" I yell and we all end up laughing our asses off. We finish up our looks, hype each other up, and head down to the common room to see what our dates look like.
Remus looks very handsome, he's wearing black trousers matched with a leather bomber-jacket and a brown turtleneck that matches my dress. Sirius and Marlene are for sure the sexiest-looking couple of the entire school. And James tried to tame his hair (unsuccessfully), he and Mary ended up together. Dorcas is flying sole, even though she was asked multiple times, she said it's called self-love. l call it having a crush on someone who's already going with someone else.
We all depart for the Great Hall in hopes of finding Peter anywhere since no one has apparently seen him since this morning. Sirius and James of course have a bet going on whether or not he has a date.
