The Ball pt 2
Remus' POV
When we all arrive in the Great Hall everyone is struck with admiration for the beauty of the place. "We did a great job decorating" I whisper to Lily with a smile. A muggle-song called '1984' by David Bowie is playing. l really like him and I think it's a fun song seeing how 1984 is ten years from now. We see a few people dancing already but most of them are eating something or talking to eachother. We're looking around for Peter but we still don't spot him. "You don't think anything could've happened right?" l'm kinda worried a bit, he gets lost trying to find the bathroom. "Maybe he flushed himself down the toilet because he couldn't find a date" Sirius says laughing. I actually think he does have a date, but he probably didn't tell us because he and I both know that Pads and Prongs would make fun of it. Either way, I'm going to try and have a fun night. "Would you like a drink?" I ask Lily. She smiles at me and nods. So l leave the group to get Lily her drink while she starts talking to Marlene. Not even 2 meters far, some one yells "Moony, wait!" I turn around to see Sirius running towards me. "Marlene wants a drink as well, you wouldn't mind me joining you now would your" He says breathing heavy, smiling from ear to ear.
Why does he look so good? Fuck, it's happening again, I can feel my cheeks getting hotter. No, I'm here with Lily and I'm getting her a drink, let's focus on that. He looks so good with his black button-up, his hair in a low bun, top 4 buttons undone. Why does he have to leave those damn buttons open! God! Those damn buttons! How I want to UNbutton all of those damn buttons. I'm so pathetic. This is a ball he has a date, I have a date. And he doesn't like me he likes her, Marlene. I really need to get over him, out of self-respect. But liking him doesn't hurt anyone right? I don't want to get over him. I want him to kiss me and be mine forever. But that isn't possible because Sirius isn't gay and he doesn't want me like I want him, he likes girls, he likes Marlene.
So in the end, the only one getting hurt is me, again.
James' POV
The girls have gone to gossip in a corner, Pads and Moony are getting drinks an Wormtail is still nowhere to be found. So now I'm just standing here, alone. "I see my idiot brother finally got some sense and left your tight-ass" I turn around to see Regulus and Evan laughing. "Fuck off, you don't know anything" I'm really not in the mood for a fight. "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know you were married" I decide to walk away and leave those two kids to their giggling. Suddenly I see Lily standing alone. She's probably waiting for Moony. "Hi" I'm trying not to sound super awkward. She looks really nice. "Hi" She returns. "So, you and Remus did a great job decorating" How do you have a conversation with someone when you know everyone will laugh at you again for trying. "Thanks" is all she says. I really don't know what to do or say.
*awkward silence*
I really can't breathe. I have to say something. Why is it so hard? It never was this hard before. Maybe that's because before when l tried everyone was always there and we knew it was always a joke to her, so it was fun to lay it on thick because there would never be any consequences. But this is like, a real conversation. And I know I'm just a joke to her so how could she ever take me seriously.
"Would you maybe want to dance?" I can't remember how i ever said those words but i did and now I feel stupid 'cause she is going to turn me down like she always does. "Yeah sure, why not"Wait, did she just not turn me down?! I wasn't expecting that. "Wait, this isn't a joke is it? You acctually want to dance with me?" She laughs and heads for the dancefloor. I can't believe this is happening. Lily fucking Evans wants to dance, and with me of all people! After all those years she said yes. Honestly, this feels kinda weird. She wraps her arms around my neck and rests her head on my shoulder. I wrap my arms around her waist and we just dance.
Then she looks up to me, staring into my eyes. 'Can I kiss you?' She asks quietly.
"Woah! Hold on! This isn't real! You- You, me, no just no. It doesnt make any sense I thought you hated me?! NO! You are supposed to hate me!" I yell for all of the Great Hall to hear. I see Dumbledore and Mc Gonnigal watching closely. She just laughs "Let's talk" and she drags me out of the Great Hall. I see Dumbledore giving something small and shiny to Minnie. I see Remus and Sirius cheering.
We are at the library. It is completly deserted and I ask Lily "Why would you want to kiss me? It is pretty clear you don't have those kind of feelings for me" She looks like she's about to freak out. "You're right! l don't have those kind of feelings for you! I don't know what l want! l don't-" I hug her. "I'm so sorry, you tried so hard all these years but l just-" I cut her of "Hey, it's okay, I've been figuring some stuff out and l just think l liked the attention and drama. It became a game" We stay here in silence for some time. "Everyone is expecting us to be together" She has a point there. "Well, you could say it was a joke and maybe nothing has to change" She nods "Alright, so, friends?" She sticks out her hand for me to shake it. "Not sure if you're supposed to shake on this but yes, friends" and I shake her hand.
