Sirius

“Paddy!” A shrill scream broke out. I flinched as I looked up from my journal, looking around for the source. I found myself frozen as I saw Remus walking up to me with a very happy Teddy.
“Sirius!” Remus picked up his pace as he stepped up and joined me on the stone bench in the farthest corner of the castle. “We’ve been looking for you everywhere. Haven’t we pup?”
“Oh, I was keeping out of sight. I thought you wanted that?” I set down my notebook and moved over so the Duke could sit down with the very happy baby. It hurt to see him happy without me.
“Your brother is here, and he gave me a very needed reality check. Especially after I watched Harry eat utter shit. I messed up badly with you Sirius.” He went to say more but paused. I was shocked when he offered to pass Teddy to me.
“You want me to hold him? But you don’t trust me with him. I hurt him.” I held my hands in my lap, I was terrified to move like it was a fucked up test.
“No I overreacted, I thought I could keep him from getting hurt. Babies get hurt, but you healed him, and took him to me so that we could help him calm down and I did the opposite of what I should have done. I’ve been under a lot of stress and in no shape or form should I have taken it out on you.” He didn’t care that I refused to take the boy as he set him in my lap and I had to wrap my arms around him.
“Je ne devrais pas être pardonné.” I grumbled as I looked Teddy over. He looked so happy and I couldn’t help but feel addicted to his little smile. He turned and reached for my hair, tugging a bit with a cheerful squeal.
“You shouldn’t need to be forgiven.” I shot him a very confused look because I didn’t know he had understood me. “I’ve been learning French so that he could learn, and so that I could do something to make you proud of me. I was stupid, and yet I wanted to apologize and make you proud of me. I wanted to be worthy of you.”
“Your grace, you are a Duke. Trust me you have nothing to worry about. I’m the one here with no title who keeps messing up. I have to prove myself to you if we are being honest.” I hugged Teddy, and he quickly caught on hugging me back as much as his little arms could.
“Please never call me that again. I’ve missed hearing you call me Remus, better yet Moony. I would love for you to call me Moony.” He rested his head against the stone wall behind us. He looked so tired.
“I’m not in trouble? You were so angry though.” I mumbled. He let out an almost strangled breath before shifting to sit closer to me. I let him wrap his arm around me and felt pure happiness as he tugged me closer to his chest.
“Merlin no, if anything you have every right to hate me, to be mad at me. Every single right Pads. I’ve kept you from Teddy, you know he’s been talking for the last two months? His first word was Paddy, hasn’t said anything but it since. Think he knew something was wrong and wanted us to make up.” Remus brushed his thumb under his son's chin.
“I was his first word? Oh no wonder you were irate. Come on Teddy, say Papa!” I cooed to the little boy. He looked up at me and started to hum. “Papa, say papa.”
“Paddy!” He cheered very happily. I smiled and rested my head into the nook of Remus’s shoulder and chest. He continued to brush his thumb along his son’s jaw, his head slowly leaning more onto mine before he was resting fully on me.
“Papa mon petit prince de la lune. Say Papa.” Remus let out a small laugh and I jokingly nudged him in the side. “I see that you’ve apparently also been trying that? Great he’s as stubborn as his father, that little shit.”
“Shit!” Teddy cheered, mimicking me and I paled as Remus shot his head up. I looked up at him and saw this unreadable expression as he watched his son.
“Teddy, who told you that? Oh Merlin, Padfoot, did you teach him to swear already?” Remus laughed as he lifted his son into his lap. I smiled as I held onto one of the boy’s hands.
“Papa! Shit!” I broke out laughing and completely fell into Remus’s side while I struggled to breath. He let out a small laugh himself before he helped his son to stand up on his lap.
“Look Moony, he did get something from you!” I struggled so hard to stop laughing but the smile on Teddy and Remus’s faces were very much worth every second of it. Remus scrunched his face a bit before he kissed his son on the nose.
“Dyna air drwg fy nghi bach, nid ydym yn dweud hynny. Ni fydd Papa yn ei ddweud chwaith.” Remus mumbled to his son as he pulled Teddy a bit closer to his chest allowing the boy to take a wobbly step.
“Your garden looks better by the way. I saw you working on the new stone wall a few weeks ago. It will keep Teddy safer.” I calmed down. Remus pulled his eyes away from Teddy and met my gaze. He smiled and moved a bit so he could squeeze me a little bit closer to him with his free arm.
“Figured that was a start to writing my wrongs. I didn’t baby proof this castle, and Merlin knows I needed to.” He once again readjusted, this time he settled Teddy between us, overlapping a leg from each of us.
“You’re a really good father Moons, I wish I had a father as protective and loving as you. Maybe I wouldn’t be such a mess. Seeing you with Teddy, how much you love him, I know he’s gonna grow up knowing his father would do anything for him.” I kissed the boy’s hand and he let out a happy gurgle.
“I think he’s also lucky to have you helping me raise him. You’ve done so much for us the last few months, and without you I realized how much I needed you. Teddy is so lucky to have you Pads, you wouldn’t even believe it. He got sick last month, I didn’t even know what to do, you were so good at that and I was a fumbling mess.” Remus let out a quiet laugh.
“That’s all it is, fumbling about till we get it right.” Teddy started to grow cranky and I lifted him fully into my lap. “I think we should head in for lunch, little one is getting hungry. Much like his father, he tends to get a bit cranky when he is hungry. Come on, we can all go to the kitchen and I’ll make your favorite.”
“You spoil me, Pads. You fucking spoil me you evil man.” Remus hummed as he moved to stand up, his hand extended to help me up as I rested the boy on my hip. Teddy clung to my shirt and I wrapped him up in my arms as I started to make the walk back to the main part of the castle, Remus guiding me with a hand on my back the entire way.
