“So you’ve really taken a liking to my brother. It’s nice to see there’s someone he is comfortable with. How is he? We haven’t really talked much since he left our parents' home.” Regulus asked. We were sitting in my office enjoying tea.
“How can I not? He’s a very smart and exciting man to be around. Not that he isn’t ruining me.” I laughed, slumping a bit down in my chair. Reggie smiled before he took a deep sigh.
“You know James was the same way? We were raised to serve others before ourselves, brought up living like servants to earn our stay in the castle. I brought James and Lily breakfast in bed everyday for a year, and if they weren’t in bed they were in their offices. James said I’m responsible for his ‘fatherly like body’. I keep telling him it’s because he actually eats three meals a day now.” Reggie rubbed his nose bridge with a fond smile.
“He is a father, and I think James is overreacting. I, on the other hand, have a whole new wardrobe because I’m no longer a twig. He’s ruining me.” I joked, smiling at the thought of the man’s brother.
“Can you blame him? Besides, you look healthier nowadays. Plus Moony is more lethargic now, it’s like he’s actually at peace than war inside of you. Could be my brothers doing, could be Teddy’s, could be anything. I’m just implying that you’re better now than you were.” He looked out the giant glass window on the side of my office where we could see perfectly into the garden.
“I’ve been coming back with less scars and I am less tired and cranky afterwards.” I agreed following his line of sight to see James and Sirius playing with both baby boys in the garden. “He’s teaching Teddy French, you know?”
“I’ve been teaching Harry French as well, James has been teaching him Spanish. Teddy seems to love him as well.” Regulus turned back to look at me. I knew he had but I was still fixed on watching Sirius holding up my almost year old son.
“Who couldn’t. You know Sirius has been trying to get him to start walking since he’s almost a year old. Insists he wants his first steps towards me, wants me to be the one he walked to first, like when he first started to crawl.” I finally turned back to my friend.
“He’s doing an awful lot for just a friend. You know I need someone to host a ball for this upcoming season, maybe you can? Would be quite romantic.” Regulus picked up his cup and gave me a very ‘say yes’ look before taking a sip.
“I don’t know a thing about hosting balls, not exactly the most prim and proper Duke. Where would I even start?” I brushed out my vest and gave the King an inquiring look.
“No but you do have a Prince at your disposal. I don’t think he would be all that against helping you plan. Besides, he needs something to do. I know you two go out into the town to get clothes and whatever but he needs something other than that, he needs something new.” Reggie admitted.
“He’s not a prince anymore Reggie. Your parents stripped him of that title, remember? He’s by title below us as a regular commoner. In the eyes of the kingdom, he doesn’t exist.” I looked down at the journal I had on my desk, not the original copy, but one I had specially made for the older brother.
“Then I’ll make that my job to worry about. You worry about the ball, your son, and my brother. Does that sound like a fair deal?” Regulus offered. I sat and thought about it before nodding in agreement. “Wonderful, now before my husband turns my son into a pancake I think we should join our families outside, yes?”
