Through Thick, Thin, and Zombies

His leg bounced as he waited for the dismissal to head home.

He wasn't a particularly calm omega. Often full of bouncy energy. Sitting still and quiet was a rather difficult thing for him to accomplish. He'd rather be running around, being loud. Making as many friends as he could. He was naturally friendly. He would latch on to any friend he could like superglue. Most were tolerant of it. Most reciprocated. But he was an omega. And sometimes, he knew he could be a bit too clingy for even other omega's tastes. But there was one friend that more than tolerated his clinginess. And he was eager to go and meet up with him. He was in a different class. And he was also an alpha.

They had yet to beat the allegations they were courting.

But they would, if they fought hard enough.

True, Jung Wooyoung knew he wasn't making it easy to argue the opposite. But Kang Yeosang was his closest friend. His best friend. And from what he could tell, Yeosang had trouble making friends on his own. Before Wooyoung showed up and just, adopted him as his friend. And they were such opposites. He was a loud friendly extroverted omega. Yeosang was a quite, shy, introverted alpha. He didn't want to assume, but he thought that he might just be Yeosang's only friend.

That was fine.

It would make Yeosang's attempts to find a mate more difficult in the future. Wooyoung would love to get along with them. And he would. But he surely had his scent all over Yeosang. Making it seem like he'd soft claimed the alpha as his own. But to be fair, he was heavily scented in Yeosang's scent for the same reasons. Maybe when they were a little older, and ready to actively seek out mates would they ease up. So that their respective scents eased off the other. Giving the other a chance to find their matches.

But for now, it was pure friendship. Besides, they were still in their second year of high school. They had a few years left before they could even consider looking for a mate or cycle partner.

He let out as quiet a bored sigh as he could. Raspberry blue eyes flickering to the clock, eager for it to reach the end point. He knew education was important enough, but did it all have to be so gods damned boring? He was a smart omega. He knew he'd do fine, regardless. His black ear flickered, before screaming seemed to echo through the halls.

He wasn't the only one to notice.

The rest of his class looked to the windows to see what could be going on. The administration surely would not appreciate the ruckus. The teacher looked annoyed by both the disturbance, and the distraction of his class. Wooyoung's never really liked this teacher. He seemed too serious and stuck up for his liking. And he was a beta. Weren't betas supposed to be the calm relaxed ones?

The students closer to the windows peered out just as some students ran past. And they looked absolutely sick to their stomachs, and incredibly frightened.

The teacher huffed, before he approached the door and opened it. He called out that there was to be no running or screaming. It was still class time. But the other students ignored him. A first for any teacher. From where he was sitting, he could see the others were deathly frightened. Running as if their lives depended on it.

And for good reason.

The teacher tried again, only to have one attack him. Going straight for his throat. As he landed on his back, the class gasped. Watching as this earless and tailless wolf, began to eat their teacher.

It was enough for them.

Without delay, they hurried out the windows and other door to try and escape.

He had to find Yeosang!

//

Being the complete opposite of Wooyoung, he sat still and quiet.

Focused on his lecture. When he did look to the clock at random, he'd smirk softly. Just knowing his best friend the way he did, he could already tell Wooyoung was ready to jump up from his seat from dismissal. He'd have to brace for the omega to practically rush and nearly tackle him. At least he was a harmless omega. And Wooyoung liked him for who and what he was.

Yeosang appreciated that.

And he was ready to hear his best friend whine his marbled black and silver ear off again, at how bored he was. How Wooyoung retained his stellar grades while being so bored, remained a mystery to him. He'd never bother to look in to the answers. As long as they both could graduate, that was fine. Especially since Wooyoung made a rather touching promise to him. He would not graduate if Yeosang didn't. He was sticking with Yeosang as long as the alpha would let him.

Yeosang never mentioned it to him, but it had actually brought this usually stoic alpha to tears that night. That someone cared and valued him that much, to want to be with him as long as he let them. Even if they had different careers and mates, he didn't doubt he'd often want Wooyoung around. Just to have familiarity. He supposed in a way, this made them a pack. And the more he'd thought about it, the more Yeosang liked the idea. He knew he could trust and rely, and depend on Wooyoung for a lot. So, he and Wooyoung had already formed their own little pack unit. Wooyoung was family, by that definition.

And it made so much sense. They spent a lot of time at each other's places.

Even spending the night.

He was brought from his inner thoughts, to the sound of students running and screaming bloody murder. Concerned, the others rose to their feet and peered out the windows to see what was going on. Yeosang himself was a little worried. He sniffed, before crinkling his nose. Ugh, it smells so disgusting. Was no one else smelling that? As he looked, he noticed a few were detecting the same ghastly odor he was. Good. He wasn't alone.

He looked as one hissed, "Holy shit."

The teacher decided to investigate as well. She was a lovely teacher. Sweet and demure as any beta-omega should be. As soon as she peered out, she spoke, "Class is dismissed. May gods have mercy on us all. Run while you can. It was a pleasure having you all in my class."

Well that was a bit sudden. And bittersweet. A goodbye usually meant for graduations. Without hesitation, the others scrambled out of the classroom and ran for their own lives. Just as Yeosang got a fair distance from his classroom, he stopped. He turned and looked back. And while he was shocked and horrified by the carnage of literal zombies, he was more filled with worry.

Where was Wooyoung?

He wasn't leaving without him. He'd promised! Was it a bad idea to turn around when zombies were on the loose? Yes. But he wasn't leaving without Wooyoung. They, they were a pack! He turned around, and began to run against the rest of the student body. He had to find Wooyoung. However, he was fighting against a tidal wave of scared students running for their literal lives. He wound up getting pushed to the ground. And it sent him temporarily, to a dark place.

Having had trouble making friends, Yeosang was often the target of bullying. Despite his rather handsome face, he was often beaten down. But it was how he met Wooyoung. And the two became inseparable since. And it was before Wooyoung had presented as an omega. He curled in on himself, and covered his head. To avoid being kicked too hard in the head and winding up unconscious. He'd never find Wooyoung that way. If he was still himself and alive. He closed his eyes, waiting for whatever fate he was to have.

He only briefed a glance, to see he was being surrounded by hungry looking zombies. Just as one went to start the feasting, they were suddenly being pounded away by a heavy looking backpack. Yeosang blinked to see Wooyoung. He had a little blood splattered on him, but he didn't look pale. At least, not yet. He likely was fighting every instinct to puke. He felt his heart race.

Wooyoung was okay.

Without delay, Wooyoung helped him to his feet, "Let's go. My place, closest. We can hoard there until the initial panic dies down."

Yeosang nodded. And with their hands clasped together, the two turned and ran for it. And if Wooyoung continued to use his backpack as a weapon to swat zombies away, then Yeosang could only call the omega brave.

He knew male omegas in particular were put down as being weakest of the weak. But they were incredibly strong. And super fierce when they were cornered. They knew how to fight better than any alpha could.

So he was far from surprised Wooyoung was in warrioress mode.

//

They weren't stopping for anyone.

After all, they were pack. They had to defend themselves. But this made Yeosang worry. Could they still retain their friendship at the end of the world? As if sensing his thoughts, Wooyoung hurried them along to his place, "You've seen the same zombie movies and shows I have. We both know how it changes wolves. If we let it. I promised you, Yeosang. I was sticking with you, until you told me to leave you alone. To leave you behind. Until that day comes, you're not getting rid of me. Fat chance."

Yeosang smirked, and squeezed Wooyoung's hand more, "Thank you, Woo. I just worry we'll hate each other."

Wooyoung smirked, "Not possible. You're too fun to tease."

Yeosang rolled his eyes affectionately, "Of course you'd keep me around for entertainment value."

Wooyoung flashed him a grin as they hurried up the stairs to his unit. Yeosang would soon learn just how fiercely Wooyoung would cling to him. And all the others of their future pack. He would not give any of them up without a fierce and determined fight. But for now, they just had to survive. Find survivors as smart as them, and hopefully form their own pack. Any mates would be a blessing.

Without much thought, Wooyoung burst the door open and practically threw Yeosang inside. He then turned and dead bolted the door shut, then pulled a table over to help keep it blocked. Just as a safety precaution. As Yeosang bent with his hands on his knees, he caught his breath, "What do we do now?"

Wooyoung dropped his blood stained backpack, and answered, "Grieve the loss of our yesterdays, and prepare for a fierce set of tomorrows. We can get some rest. Last good night of sleep we'll have for the foreseeable future. Then, we gather any and all supplies we can get. We can even swing by your place, see if there will be anything worth scavenging. Then, we go where nature and the winds take us. We'll both have to find a weapon. Our claws and our fangs won't work anymore."

Yeosang smirked, "And they say omegas aren't the fighter types."

Wooyoung huffed, "I will bet whatever I have left at the end of this, it will be the male omegas that truly come out on top."

Yeosang nodded, "Yes. I agree. But don't expect me to worship you in particular."

Wooyoung feigned hurt as he set a hand over his chest, "I am hurt. My best friend, rejecting me?"

Yeosang snorted and walked away, "Thanks for the save, and humor. Could use it."

Wooyoung smiled as he followed him, and guided him to his nest. He trusted Yeosang enough to let him rest inside it, "Anything for my pack."

So, he wasn't the only one who thought they were a pack. Would packs established before the fall retain their strong pack bonds? They had to. They lived with one another the rest of their lives upon finding one another. Surely their bond as friends and pack would remain strong during these uncertain times. Without much word, the two crawled in to the omega's nest. Time to get some rest, then they'd plan things out better.

It has been one hell of a day.

For the entire world.
