Most Foul

His entire focus, was on where he placed his feet.

His balance, and where the ball was at. The goal, and the other players. He was in his element. Soccer. Despite it being between himself and some friends, it was still a rather intense game. Yet, he was still having immeasurable enjoyment. He could almost hear his heart racing hard inside his ribcage. Like the literal wolf it was, eager to escape from it's cage. To truly be free, and chew the ball to smithereens.

He felt so alive.

The adrenaline rush, and the feeling of euphoria for winning. And the absolutely crushing feeling of being defeated. That was what made soccer so appealing to him. And he knew from his friends, he wasn't the only one. They have on many occasions, gotten so focused on their game that they forgot they still had classes. However, they were only reprimanded and never punished. Mostly due to the fact the board saw their potential. And besides, they considered it practice for the upcoming soccer season.

He couldn't wait to go up against other schools. Show them what he and his school got. It was going to be exhilarating. It often was. This would be the first year he would be on the varsity team, over the junior varsity. He was finally, a junior. His young red hued black toned ears remained focused on the ball. Weaving between players to get it to the goal and net. To make a score.

He gave a huffing growl, as the ball was ultimately stolen from him by an opposing player. Without delay, he gave chase. Eager to get the ball back.

At least he didn't have to worry about classes today. For one, it was nice out. And for two, they had had a short school day. This gave him and his friends more time to play and practice. And they didn't seem to mind in the least. And their parents weren't expecting them home soon, regardless. Most were probably still at work.

He groaned, and stopped as the ball entered his team's net.

A goal.

They slowed their game, and decided a small breather was in order. As they returned to their belongings, they searched out their water to cool down and refuel. As he was drinking from his a bit heavily, Jihun spoke to him, "Don't drink too much, Choi Jongho. Not good for alphas during intense activities like this. I get you overheat, but you'll regret it."

Jongho flushed softly, even as he nodded and pulled his bottle away, "I know. Trying to be mindful. But we have been going for a while."

Jihun hummed as he nodded, "True." He finally smirked and asked, "Any pretty omegas flirting with you yet?"

Jongho frowned. He wasn't even half a year presented. Surely looking for a potential mate could wait. Instead, he merely answered, "No. I am not interested at this time."

His friend hummed, nodding in understanding, "Thought I'd ask."

Jongho hummed, but let it go.

Without further conversation, they returned for more of their game.

Sometimes, it felt as if they were in a world of their own.

Soccer was a nearly laser focused sport. So they were not yet aware of the eerie silence. Nor the distant sounds of chaos and trouble just beyond their school's campus. The screams and crashes not yet reaching their ears. It was peaceful and seemed so normal. Too bad this would be their last normal calm day. Their last game. And that would be the last normal conversation Jongho would ever have with Jihun.

The entire illusion of normalcy was shattered, when one of them ran into a random wolf on their field.

They paused to check if either were okay. What they saw horrified them. The random stranger had no ears or tail. Her jaw looked broken, her eyes blood shot and oozing some blood. Her skin greyed. The other gasped and tried to scurry away, "W-What that hell!"

She gave an unsettling sound, before she was suddenly on him and eating him. It was still a moment, before more seemed to rush towards them. Without delay, they turned and ran away. Some tripping and falling in their haste to leave, others looking back and panicking more. Jongho hurried towards his bag, and grabbed it. He then hurried on his way.

He and Jihun were the few to escape the first wave. Without delay, they hurried from the school and straight into the belly of chaos. Just as they stepped off campus, Jihun spoke to him, '"Your place is closest. Let's get there, and lock ourselves in. Then we'll think of a plan."

Jongho nodded. As he went to make verbal agreement, he suddenly jumped back as Jihun was tackled to the ground by another of those zombies. As Jihun screamed, Jongho watched in horror a moment as he was being eaten alive. Before he was shaken from his horror watch, and turned and ran for his home. He dodged as well as he would in soccer.

Guess all that playing would pay off in a new way.

As he hurried, he did say a quick goodbye to his friends. And Jihun in particular. But he had to dodge zombies and panicking wolves. He had also seen all the movies and shows that had been released on this type of thing. Hadn't most everyone in the world at this point? At least, those that could truly stomach it? And even if they couldn't, surely they knew enough to know how to have prevented all this.

If not, he pitied them.

And knew they'd be the first to fall.

After reaching his home, he was quick to lock and barricade it.

He doubted he'd see his parents again. Once he was in the quiet and power free home, he took the time to catch his breath. And try and not throw up, nor fly into his own panic. It would do him little to no good. Jongho wasn't easily frightened, nor scared. But this was the real zombie apocalypse. He had the same questions as any other, who would survive the first few days of this mass spread of whatever it was.

What was the cause?

And where did it come from, truly?

The west loved to blame Eurasia. Yet there was also the high chance it came from the west. But who really cared, anymore? The governments would be in shambles. And those smart enough to have watched all they could, would know the government had failed them. And would never regain the trust of the wolves they had lost. Either through the illness, the death they caused one another, or the brutality of having to survive.

But he hoped that nature could prevail in her ways. Show mercy to those she deemed worthy. And hopefully, he and other wolves could retain some civility to not want to take one another out. There was more to this new world than just backstabbing, and killing over resources. That wasn't how their species survived.

He supposed he'd learn more once the first few days had passed. When it was a little calmer, and he and other survivors could start to plan their new lives. Those like himself. He turned, and closed and locked the windows. And then covered them to avoid being noticed. Despite being high up from the streets, he still wasn't taking the chances. He then looked about to find any weapon he could use from henceforth. Knives dulled after a while, and it wasn't safe regardless. For various reasons. He'd need a blunt force trauma weapon. He could almost scoff. Few households in Korea had such luxuries.

But it beat those stupid firearms the west loved to wave about. They were so stupid a concept. They were weak in so many ways. They were loud. And no matter what show or movie, zombies were heavily drawn to sound. Duh. Anyone with still functioning properly brains knew that. Plus, guns jammed. That wasn't a good thing. And lastly, it only held so much ammunition. And what happens when there was no more ammunition being manufactured? Without the power, means, and wolves to mass produce the ammunition for firearms, that resource would dwindle. Then become scarce and fought heavily over. Then, it would be entirely gone.

But wood was abundant.

Bats, sticks, two by fours, and stakes were faster to craft from wood from a tree. And many could be made throughout the years.

He nearly sighed in frustration.

He had nothing to use. Not yet. Though, he could use any of the pans they had. He knew those had to hurt. They would have to do until he could find a better weapon. Maybe others like himself would have to as well. With a weapon figured out for the time being, Jongho knew he had to also see what he had for supplies. And then pack strategically for a world of survival and running. And get some sleep. He'd need it for the following days wandering.

Considering he had a few days until the initial panic and chaos settled, Jongho decided to get some sleep. He was tired from running so much. And the adrenaline from the game and the running from zombies had tired him out. Time for some rest. He knew his barricade would hold long enough. He was safe for the time being.

Without hesitation, he went to his room to get some sleep.

Morning was looking very bleak and different.
