Icarus

November 21st 1981

Upon Severus bringing the child back to Dumbledore and presenting the child to him a decision had to be made, where would young Harry Potter grow up. He couldn't be placed with just any random muggle family or any family with no relation if anyone noticed they could challenge the Wingzmont and the decision would be out of his hands. Leaving Harry to the most powerful probably dark family. 

Severus had the most potential to be uncontested as he was left Harry by a close relative of Lily's but Severus was not a good fit for Harry far from the parent he would need. The Weaslys were out they couldn't possibly take in another child and the possible backlash could once again cause Harry to be left with someone like Narcissia and Lucius Malfoy, Narcisssia having been cousins with Harry's godfather and the Blacks being closer relatives to the Potters than the Weasleys it would be an open and shut case. Perhaps if he left the boy with neither a pure blood family nor a muggle family. A halfblood family, like his mother and father after all Petunia did leave Harry with a half-blood wizard.

But which family is the right one. A light or neutral family that has already had a kid or two would be best and one related to James or Sirius. Sirius may have been a traitor but he was still the boys godfather. A family that would understand the importance of raising Harry out of the spotlight. One who could protect him and give him a normal life. The Tonks… Edward and Andromeda Tonks. Andromeda much like Sirius was expelled from the house of Black and for similar reasons no doubt. They were someone who Lily and James would be ok with young Harry staying with them and their own daughter Nymphadora was starting Hogwarts in 3 years time, a protective older sister to Harry. All he would need was Petunia's statement and his word that this is what Lily and James would've wanted for their boy. 

At this point it had been 20 days since the Potters had past and Harry still had no permanent home. Dumbledore had gotten the necessary statement from Petunia just in case anyone looked into Harry and one of Tom's followers tries to gain access and adopt the boy. All that was left was to see if the Tonks would be willing to welcome in a new son. 

"Good evening Andromeda and Ted! I have come to see if you would care for young Harry Potter. I know you have supported the order of the phoenix even though you weren't direct members, it stands to reason that might help us. You see Harry was originally left at his maternal aunt and uncles, muggles with a son of their own. They rejected him, leaving him at a neighbours house from the village they grew up in. The man in question came to me, being a half blood he knew of Harry and Petunia knew he was a wizard. It is their decision that Harry grows up in our world. If the wingzmont found out merlin only knows where they would place him. The best option would be to place him in a half-blood household, with no alignment in the war, a good small family who can teach him about his history, who understands how bad growing up with every witch and wizard praising his name. With you Andromeda being a cousin of Sirius someone who before he betrayed Lily and James would've taken in Harry and being in similar circumstance I believe you and Ted would be the safest bet for the young boy" 

Andromeda and Ted stared in silence debating what to say. They couldn't very well leave the poor child to the hands of the wingzmont and the wizarding world, even if he didn't end up with a family who believed in he who must not be named, he could end up in a family who treated him like he was a god in their home. If anyone found out where he was they'd be harrassed none stop by press and well meaning witches and wizards. Andromeda spoke up first "We can take him in professor but…what if the wizarding world finds out where he is..it will be like painting a target on our house and backs. Perhaps if we do a blood adoption it will fix the issues. Harry would officially be ours magically and by blood. It's commonly done with pureblood families that couldn't produce and heir and thus recognized by all of society and it is not easily undone. It will allow Harry to gain some notable Black and Tonks family traits allowing him to hide from the he-who-must-not-be-named followers and the press. We could also change his first and last name so he would hopefully go unnoticed for as long as possible."

Albus thought eyes twinkling as he thought over Andromeda's proposal. "I think that is an acceptable solution. However his scar is quite…unique…It looks like a lightning burn across the left side of his face…no witch or wizard would mistake that scar. There is only a small chance he could get the metamorphmagus trait during the adoption, it is not guaranteed, nothing is. But I will allow it I think its the best choice for the boy. Teach him as he gets older who his parents were. I will be a witness and it's to my understanding we need one more witness to the ritual. I happen to know an auror, Alastor Moody. Being a top auror he might bee our best witness."

"We shall make the necessary arrangements I'll make sure Dora is at school that day."

November 23rd 1981

Ted, Andromeda and their witnesses met with Amelia Bones head of the DLME to ensure the welfare of their child and process a legal blood adoption. 

Mrs. Bones started them off "Am I clear in understanding that all parties knowingly consent that the act of completing a blood adoption without approval from a high ranking ministry member and the ritual being performed by a licensed party is now illegal in Britain and has been since 1705. In order to ensure the wellbeing of all of all children involved. While the act of the adoption can not be undone if it is found that the child has wrongfully been taken from a guardian then harsh penalties will befall the adopting parties and their witnesses."

Everyone agreed to the statements and the paperwork was started. Officially making Harry James Potter legally Icarus James Tonks. The ritual began. The Tonks and baby Icarus exchanged blood while Amelia stood around them casting the ritual and the associated spells. 

Mrs. Bones began with the closing remarks. "As the next year goes by you may notice slight changes, as he shifts to be a mix of his parents and you two. As you are both aware when a blood adoption is completed the adoptee will start gaining traits of the adopters, biological traits. That is why this method has become so popular amoung purebloods who can not produce an heir, the adoptee will still carry in some important traits from the adopters while introducing new traits from the family.
