Prologue

November 1st 1981, Little Winging

Albus, Minerva and Hagrid stood still at the end of privet drive, holding baby Harry in his arms. They debated leaving young Harry at the Dursleys doorstep but alas Dumbledore was certain that they would love him and the blood wards would protect him from the dangers yet to come. So despite Minerva's protesting they dropped Harry wrapped in a blanket with a small note, knocked on the door and apparated away before the residents could make it to the door.

Once they did, however the course of the wizarding world was forever changed by their next decision. As when Petunia and Vernon answered the door with a young son of their own, they brought him in. They popped the two boys down in Dudly's cot and read the letter that was left with him on the step.

Dear Petunia Dursley Nee Evans

It is with my deepest regrets that I inform you of the death of your sister and her husband, Lily Potter nee Evans and James Potter. The were killed by the evil wizard Voldemort protecting young Harry James Potter the baby I have now entrusted to you. May you take care of him as one of your own and watch him grow. Teaching him the ways of muggles and his own magic and family history.

Signed Albus Dumbledore

"He was my sisters" Petunia said almost out of breath shocked and saddened by a loss she wouldn't even realise she would miss. "He will be like her one day, magic and such, he will grow up to be her"

Vernon stared looking at how close they had placed Harry and Dudley. "We need to get that freakish child out of here! We cannot afford another child, even if it was your sisters. He's one of them, those magic freaks. What if he grows up and hurts us or Dudley"

Petunia sighed. Remembering Lily before she got that stupid letter before she had met that neighbour boy, before she was denied what Lily had so easily received. "Perhaps if we raise him in an environment devoid of freakishness then he won't develop the same 'talents' as his mother and father after all Lily was close to some freak boy. We can't just throw him on the street. Lily may have been some freak but she doesn't deserve that and he's still so young."

He shook his head and started spouting his anger out "Absolutely not! I will not have a freak that can harm us in our home! We cannot afford to raise such a child. I understand he is your sisters and that's why we shall not just kick him to the street. We should leave him at another freaks house let him be amongst his own! or perhaps an orphanage, or anywhere but here! Even if we gave him chores or had his room under the stairs we would still have to feed him, cloth him and send him to school!"

Petunia's mind began to run trying to think of ways to appease her lost freak of a sister and her dear husband. She truly thought about maybe straightening the freak out of the young baby but then she glanced over at him and thought back to Lily running through the garden when they were young. She couldn't do that to him, not to Lily never her younger sister while they were young. She remembered the day she found Lily with Severus that neighbour boy who Lily was close to, a freak like her sister. In that thought she found her solution. "We shall take a road trip up to where my parents used to live, theres a house not far from where one of her freak friends lives. We will leave him there provided he still lives there. Lily would want him to be with a wizard or witch anyway."

Vernon silently nodded and suggested she take him and he stayed behind with their young boy. To prevent the freakishness from spreading to their beloved son.

November 10th 1981, Cokeworth

Petunia and young Harry arrived in Cokeworth making their way over to where that young boy used to live. Lily's old friend and hopefully young Harry's new guardians. Walking along the route from where she grew up to where that boy lived reminded her of all the old fun her and Lily used to have before Hogwarts and that boy before it all got complicated. She debated turning around right there bringing the boy home and raising him how Vernon suggested but she couldn't do that he didn't deserve that.  He looked like her baby sister.

She reached the steps to his house and waited breathing deeply as she made her final decision and decided to leave him there, the postman would be by in the morning anyway if no one happened to be home. She wrote a note and left with the boy and said her final goodbye.

Dear Severus Snape, friend to my departed sister,

As I am sure you are aware, my sister and her  husband have passed on. This is their son Harry, I remember you two always being so close and you being one of them. Would actually want her child and would do a much better job with a child like him then me and my husband could ever dream of. We have no space for an extra child let alone one of this nature. May you be as good a friend to him as I saw you were with Lily and raise him as one of your own.

Fairest wishes, Petunia Dursley. Older sister to your childhood best friend Lily Evans

Petunia walked off in the direction of where her parents used to live prepared to go back home and pretend like none of this ever happened. To mourn her sister like she never existed.

Meanwhile Severus Snape's wards started to go off sensing someone had entered and left the wards and someone was still inside the wards and with that as Petunia walked away a loud pop was heard in the distance.
